Bobby the owner is probably one of the nicest guys around. His place got started out of his love for peppers and ability to make and jar fabulously delicious ones as a hobby. His love and passion really shines through here. I live in Little Italy which seems to slowly be depleting and we could sure use this place in Bloomfield. Who knows maybe he will expand? A girl can only dream. There is a small bar attached to the larger restaurant seating area. The tables are dressed with traditional Italian restaurant red and white checked table cloths which I love. It's not a fancy place which is something else I love. It's definitely a neighborhood restaurant but it's comfortable and feels like you're going to a friend's house. The atmosphere and excellent customer service make it this way. Well, and of course the food. OMG the food!! We've had several items from the menu but what I really love are the Loaded Italian Beef Fries. Hand cut fries piled high with melted provolone, very well seasoned shredded Italian beef and Bobby's famous peppers that ooze flavor. I suggest trying as much as you can from the menu and making this a regular dining experience. You won't be disappointed.

Here's my breakdown of my first visit on Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend (they're not typically open Sunday): *** 3 stars food, ****3.5 stars service on holiday weekend, ***** 5 stars music & *****5 stars outdoor patio. Given it was a holiday weekend & a night that they are typically not open AND the place was fully packed I think the servers, bartenders & kitchen were overwhelmed. Food came out very slowly, some over cooked or dry. Italian beef was ok, but dry. Pizza was ok. Cheesesteak ok. Someone told me the iced tea was abysmal & tasted awful. How can you screw up iced tea? Not sure. Our sever Amy did her very best to accommodate all the large groups in attendance while handling multiple tables. My sandwich was missing the lettuce & tomato I requested but oh well. The mixed drinks were $6 or so & not heavy on alcohol. The male bartender was not very friendly & at one point got so frustrated he threw register tape across the bar out of exasperation because so many people needed drinks & the register tape ran out. Anyway, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were short staffed & overwhelmed. Other than that (which is huge if you were just there to eat or drink & didn't come for the music). Bill Toms & Hard Rain with the Soulville Horns played & were fantastic as always. The sound on the patio was great. The crowd was into it & danced & clapped appreciatively. The patio is very cool. They have a retractable roof for summer, which they can open partially or fully over the dining tables. They have umbrellas over some tables for sun. They have an area for bocce & corn hole. The band had a fair amount of room to play. It does get very hot on the patio even though there are a few fans. The bar is tiny. They have craft beer on tap & bottles of various beer. Not sure if they have wine. Bartender Sunday didn't seem that adept at mixed drinks. So, all in all, we had a great time there. I'd definitely give it another try since the food on my visit wasn't up to par. But I didn't come for the food. The patio in summer & Music was my big draw. Keep in mind it's in Braddock & not the best neighborhood at night. Kinda seedy. There is a gravel parking lot next to it & across street. I wouldn't recommend parking on street & walking alone at night if you're female. I was parked next to an abandoned building.

Italian beef was pretty good-no extra salt needed. I did add cheese and onion (onion slices were huge). Fish was large and served with homemade tarter. Fried zucchini was pretty good but a little bland. Food came out fast and our server checked on us often. If I had a "wish" it would be indoor seating-most seating is outside. The outside seating area is nice, they have fans everywhere-even still it's terribly warm and bugs drop by from time to time. Worth checking out for sure.

If your like the old Italian sandwich similar to Tootie's on the Southside or Old School in Homestead you are probably going to like Portogallo. Good bread with some good Italian beef, but the the giardiniera makes the difference. Good sauce with a little bit of heat but not to much served in a cup so you can decide how much to use. Use it all, it is a large sandwich and the giardiniera is what makes it so good. You can buy the giadiniera in bottles/jar to take home along with some local t-shirts. Will have to come back and try the Italian taco. Service was friendly, we were so busy talking that I forgot to take a picture of my sandwich. The shop is small with just a few tables and about six seats at a counter.

Wow! Why have we not been here before now? This place will become one of our go to places no doubt! Lovely patio seating with bocce and corn hole games makes this a great place to gather with friends. Food is very very good. We love the stuffed banana peppers. Amazing red sauce for all their Italian dishes has a bit of a kick and is delicious. The chicken Parm and meatballs were reported as tasty, but that Italian beef was outstanding! Their special gardenia peppers make this an extra special delight. Try the Italian beef fries, you will thank me. I wish they made this in a nacho version with chips ("hint hint"). We plan on trying many dishes here as we will be going back for sure.

Today, I had the tripe di Porto and the ham hocks With black eyed peas and greens. Yum yum yum! Nothing here is ever even close to being bad! All is worth trying.

Classic Pittsburgh joint! A coworker and I had a few moments for dinner between meetings and Yelped these guys. It was a huge win. The bar is eclectic, the people real, and incredibly friendly. We met the owner, bartenders, chef, and dishwasher all with cool stories to tell. The food is homemade, not from a bag or factory. Real homemade! I had the Stuffed Hot Pepper Hoagie which was overflowing and delicious. I should have eaten it with a fork and knife but no respectable Pittsburgher would have done that. The marinara sauce was amazing and the best part. My coworker had the special which was a Reuben and sweet potato fries. She also raves about it. We also tried the pepper relish that put this place on the map. I was so impressed, I bought a jar to bring home. I highly recommend this place for the real deal Pittsburgh experience, friendly people, and amazing food.

What a great addition to Braddock! I've been here three times so far over the past few days and I'll be back again. They have a very good beer selection (two hard to find European beers, Bavik Super Pils and Okocim Lager) and a better than average bar food menu. I've had the Chicken Parm Sandwich and the stuffed peppers. They were both served up quickly, the portions were plentiful, and the quality was delicious. Pepper's N'at has a cozy feel to it and it's big enough, with the attached patio (closed in for the winter months), where as you don't feel cramped. But what sets this place apart has definitely got to be the people. Bob, the proprietor, can be found on the floor pleasantly conversing with the customers when he's not in the back cooking. The last time I was in, he brought out homemade chips for everyone to sample. Then there's the bar staff. Lisa and Jeanna take pride in their pours, will remember your name and go the extra effort to make you feel welcome. And police and military veterans are treated to a 10% discount on food AND alcohol. So now, in addition to the Brew Gents down the street, there's another reason to cross the Rankin Bridge and visit "Historic Braddock".

They offered a hot dog menu all summer, so I tried a vegan dog and fries on my last trip. The fries needed more salt (easily fixed), but the vegan dog was a sad, sad puppy beyond fixing. The faux meat was too small for the bun and was buried under a mountain of toppings. It was also rubbery, which usually means it was overcooked. I ended up not eating most of it. I won't be getting hot dog again.

Our table enjoyed their (chicken) doener kebab, veggie flammenkuchen, double smash burger, and spicy schnizel sandwich. The grilled peach Southern tea with bourbon was particularly nice. We sat inside, where it was cooler and marginally less loud. The outdoor patio space was packed for the Stevie Wonder tribute band. Dogs welcome out there. There is reportedly parking in the back, but we didn't know that, so we parked on the street, which is free after 6pm.
