I found them on a search site, and saw that there was a reasonable service fee to come out for an estimate. I had to cancel the appointment due to other work being done at the house that took longer than expected. I called recently and rescheduled the appointment. Again I explained what I wanted done, and it seemed the guy understood what I was asking. I scheduled an appointment for today at noon. I asked the price of the service call, and he told me they did not charge a service call. Okay great...I was sure I saw a small service fee initially, but no fee works too. I just received a call this morning from a guy at XH asking what I wanted done. I was confused, because I assumed professionals took notes on these things. I explained again what I wanted, and after being told in the previous conversation that they needed to come out for an estimate, today he rattled off a price of $650 without seeing anything. I was shocked, because I had a couple other estimates for less than a third of the cost, but they were booked way out, and I wanted this done soon. So I mentioned this to the guy, and he said yes you should go with that, because that's what we charge just to come out. I said, "what is your charge for coming out...the $200 I was quoted by the other guys?" There is no $200 dollar service charge listed anywhere on their website, I was told there was no service charge when I scheduled the appointment, and no electrician is charging $200 for a service call. I don't know why this guy or this company decided they didn't want my business, but clearly that was the case. He correctly expected me to say no thanks when he quoted me a price of $650. I will assume I dodged a bullet on this one.

We've owned many homes and dealt with multiple contractors so we really can tell the difference when we see somebody like this. You have to watch the pricing - it is extremely high. Yes I approved the work and pricing before…read morehand, but it was run through so quickly that I didn't realize what I was paying. $700 and change to install a waterproof connector in a wire? Took him about 30 minutes. I have since checked with two other electricians I know personally and they said that should have been $120 or so TOPS. Also, had to do a call back because the outside outlet boxes were installed with very sloppy use of silicone sealant. Yes, they did fix it on the callback, but they had to scrape the paint off the house around the fixture to remove all the slathered on sealant. This was in a very visible place right next to my front door. We did sign up for their one year subscription at $16 per month that is supposed to give us discounted services (15% off) but I suspect that any actual work will be much more than 15% over market before discount. Their technicians were friendly and professional, but I was hoping that for an over $2,000 bill the work would have at least been done correctly the first time and the charges would be reasonable. I really hate to give less than five star reviews but I'm giving them a three because they did tell me the pricing up front and I agreed to it, it was only afterwards when I read the actual receipt that I realized how much I was charged. Believe me, when they do my "free" whole house inspection and they make recommendations, I'm going to review them with a fine tooth comb and if necessary get additional quotes. I guess my trust factor isn't what it should be with this company when it comes to pricing.

Butchered the second, requiring professional help. Turns out these cartridges should be changed every 5-10 years. Anyway, I won the lottery when Homer Johnson arrived to bail me out. Every step he took was solidly professional, from the removal of the old shower valve to the installation of its replacement, he had all the right tools and 100% of the knowledge to make them work correctly. I was also impressed with his measuring of the closet wall needing cutting open to expose everything. His carefulness in measuring allowed the wallboard piece to be repositioned so it hardly looks like it was ever moved. Anyway, hat's off to Homer and Kobella for making everything like new!
