Stopped in for lunch yesterday. This was our first time at a Portillo's. The food was a bit on the pricey side especially for "fast food" but for the amount of food you get, I can see why it had the cost. We each tried something different, sliced beef, hot dog, burger, polish sausage, fries and onion rings. We even got cheese sauce and their special sauce to tried. My girls and husband enjoyed it but I am not sure it is really my cup of tea. The service was decently quick and the place was clean and organized. It was a bit hot and stifling in there (started sweating a bit during the meal inside) but it was 115+ outside so I am sure the AC was working overtime. read more

This place has turned very mediocre. Counting at least the fourth time this year they missed something in our order at the drive thru and it's not worth going back once we're home. Twice it's been the Italian sausage in the combo sandwich, other times missing nuggets and just missing food even after the person at the window "repeats" everything. Who is that for? But they sure charged us. I called the first couple of times and they put the dollar or two back on my card but I think we're done with this location. On top of that the beef has been bland the last couple times. I also don't understand how they have their workers standing outside to take orders in 112 degree weather. Got an opportunity to try this place where I have never been, including any other locations. Thanks to yelp for that. Experience/Ambiance: As soon as you see this place from outside, you would notice some great design exterior and on entering you will be wowed on how this restaurant is built. Tons of classics decor all over. It is to an extent that it feels a little overwhelming for first timers. It took me a few seconds to see everything and figure out where to start the order from. But very unique place overall. Location: It's right around arrowhead town center neighborhood and so perfect one for many customers or residents in neighborhood. Easy to reach here and plenty of parking outside as well. Food: Got a chicken burger with coke that was included as part of the yelp elite event. On top got a chocolate cake slice that seemed to be their house favorite. As soon as taking first bite, an evident difference compared to all other chicken patty you would bite. It is very juicy and it even squirted on my table and my jogers. It makes me think how is that even possible. Overall burger was very good. Nice tasting and feels premium. Chocolate cake was heavily loaded with chocolate and maybe the best thing that I took. Great food options and combo available here. Price: Very reasonably priced in my opinion for the taste and quality. Combo that cost less than $10 in total is value for the money for sure. Service: There are no table service. You start from one side, order food, and pickup food once your number is called for readiness. However, staff was very nice. Plenty of seating available indoor and outdoor. Overall take: For the price factor, I wouldn't mind going here for good tasting food. Scope of improvement: They offered an entree and a drink as part of yelp event, why not fries as well just to make it a complete combo. Had a great experience at Portillo's in Glendale! The restaurant is quite large with really cool 50's diner decor. The huge guitar light on the ceiling is a great touch! We ordered at the counter, but there were kiosks available for self serve. The cashier was super friendly and gave us some tips on his favorite items before we ordered. My husband and I both decided to get the spicy chicken sandwich and shared a side of onion rings. The spicy chicken sandwich was very good and the chicken was freshly fried to order. The aioli was a nice touch as well. The onion rings were super good and had a lot of flavor! Overall we would definitely go back and try a hot dog or beef sandwich as we noticed many folks ordering these as it's what Portillo's is known for. read more

Update June 2025: Never had their burger before so this time tried it and the charbroiled really does add additional flavor. Fries still mighty pale and wish they would be golden. Chocolate cake nice and moist and not too sweet. Jadah was very helpful making sure I got my birthday deal cake and answered all my questions. As always, fun atmosphere with all the time warp 50s decor, so scrap the plastic straws and plastic ketchup cups and let's go retro paper! read more

Horrible horrible service! I ordered a chopped salad with no pasta. I open it at home and there it is, salted through the salad. We go back and they made another salad and apparently ran out of chicken but had an overload of cheese!!! What used to be a great place for hotdogs and salad has turned into a poor shadow of what Chicago fare used to represent. Because this was a pick up. Loved Portillos since growing up in Chicago. Still enjoy them but today I had my first bad experience. I ordered 3 beefs with green peppers. I didn't receive any so I went back to the counter and they gave me two small containers of peppers. I asked if this was enough for 3 sandwiches. He said yes but it wasn't. My gf's sausage was cold and her onions and peppers came in separate containers and were cold and a very small portion. I hope this place isn't going downhill. read more

Portillo's is a chain place that focuses on selling Chicago style food. Their menu consists of hot dogs, beef sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, burgers, salads, pastas, and shakes. Their interior design is quite aesthetically pleasing and is redolent of Johnny Rocket diners. You can either make an order with a real person or with a machine. The service is amiable enough and there's plenty of places to sit. I tried out a spicy chicken sandwich and a chocolate cake shake. The sandwich was only mildly spicy but was serviceable. I liked that the large shake sizes are larger than a large normal drink. I wish I had ordered a chocolate shake instead as the chocolate cake shake tasted more like a mixture of vanilla and they actually put a cake in it; I found most of it at the bottom of the cup. read more

They have excellent burgers. It must be a choice cut because they're delicious.. Their french fries are perfect.. I consider myself a hotdog snob.. New York has Sabretts and Nathan's. Chicago has their own style, so does Detroit. And probably other cities have their own way they do their dogs. Portillo's. We tried this place once again hoping our experience would be better than last. We went to pick up our order we started to check to see if everything was there and the clerk said it's all there. Well we got home and of course we were missing the hot pepper side and our sauce we also paid for. How hard is it to make sure everything is in the bag if you pay for it. We've been to pretty much all the portillos in the valley and this location had to have been the most inviting and unique one. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Food came out quick and was delicious. We had ordered the jumbo dog and polish dog with onion rings. Definitely would recommend trying this location! read more

Great decor. It has a 50's diner retro feel Excellent food. The beef and Italian sausage was nice and moist. The grilled chicken was flavorful. The minus star was due to how loud it is in the restaurant. It was a very busy lunch crowd and it was difficult to have a conversation without yelling. Not sure how that could be remedied. read more

Sandwich super soggy, greasy and god forbid ya order a steak and cheese sandwich and actually get cheese. Your sweet peppers tasted like they are past prime. I also ordered a drink and shocking I didn't receive it. Spoke to the driver and he said he asked for it (had him before and has never had an issue) and he stated he was told there was no drink with my order. So disappointed if I wanted crappy food I would have ordered from somewhere else. I first tried Portillo's in Chicago. When i found out that they have branches in AZ i was so excited. While visiting family in Peoria, we had to go check out Portillo's. It did not disappoint. I love the italian beef and sausage sandwich dipped in gravy. With a combination of both the sweet and the spicy peppers. I love that the gravy soaks the bread down but the s sausage ensures that the sandwich still has a crunch. Service was great. Everyone had a smile on their face and was energetic. I love the diner feel of every portillo's i have been to. It makes me want to sit down and take my time enjoying my meal. The chocolate cake was to die for. I Just went through the drive-thru and ordered an Italian beef sandwich, fries, and a drink. I asked for the sandwich dry with the gravy on the side. The woman taking the order was kind and said no problem. When I got to the window, the girl handed me my drink and said she was just waiting on my food. She mentioned something about a "side of gravy," and I clarified--no, not a separate cup of gravy--I wanted the sandwich dry, with the gravy on the side. Growing up in Chicago I patronize Portillos occasionally due to we had so many choices. Micky's, Johnnie's, Chickies, Na Na to name a few. All of the restaurants listed are than Portillos. Since Dick Portillo sold the business the portions and the product has gone down hill. On a positive note the Portillos staff is friendly and the restaurant is spotless. Okay let's get back to my visit today I ordered a combo with hot peppers. I was not empresses with the size of the sandwich and it was dry. The Italian sausage was great had a snap when bitting into the sandwich. The photo I attached shows the the plastic fork being larger than the sandwich. The French fries were made up of small broken pieces with a few large fries mixed in. I have attached a photo comparing the size of the sandwich to the plastic fork. I paid over $17 for a small combo, small fries and a small drink. I know it s Portillos but there was a reason there were only 4 people in the restaurant at 4:30. We donated blood and wanted to grab some lunch, so we headed here. Glad they have a drive-thru, pretty convenient. There was an young man outside taking our orders and I'm not sure if that's usually the case or if it's because they were only accepting debit and credit payments. Either way, he was friendly and efficient as we put in our order for one beef dog and one plant based garden dog. I previously tried their Chicago-style jumbo beef hot dog and enjoyed it, so this time I wanted to try their veggie version. The gentleman at the window was good-spirited and pleasant to chat with as we waited for our food. I ate my hot dog when I got home and it was pretty tasty; I appreciate the range of condiments that make for a sweet spicy savory combination. Those sport peppers are hot and delicious!
