Mufasa also gave me a tip as I was leaving to try and get to AAA to pay my registration without extra fees and right away. Being a AAA member for decades, this I knew, but appreciated that he had a payment tip. In and out in about 15 minutes. What an actual HIDDEN gem, the address is on Balboa but I would recommend driving into the Knollwood complex. Porter Valley Test Only is located in the backside of other auto mechanic businesses, look for Jug Jug Sports Bar and take that alley driveway and you will find Porter Valley to the left of the alley. I just left PVTO and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of service I received. From start to finish, the experience was top-notch and I would highly recommend Dale to anyone in need of a smog check. First and foremost, Dale was incredibly thorough and professional. But what stood out to me was the level of customer service I received in the short time I was there. He was friendly and personable, and he went above and beyond to ensure everyone was greeted. I drive a 91 525i bmw but my car was stated as a 530i. It's small. It's hidden. It's popular. Welcome to Porter Valley Test Only! True to its name, all they do are smog checks. Living two minutes away, I called Porter Valley Test Only to see if I needed an appointment. Dale, the friendly proprietor, told me I did not and he wasn't busy. When I showed up, another car was in the process of being smogged. There weren't any parking spaces available so I double parked, which seems to be the norm for this shop. As I waited, a truck rolled in and waited "in line" behind my car. Five minutes later, another car rolled up and got in line. Timing is everything! My smog took five minutes or so. Time flew by. Dale is very efficient. My car has been smogged here before and Dale remembered it, which is nice. There is a bathroom available in the shop. Dale knew I had a coupon before I showed up and provided a discount of $10 for a grand total of about $60 for my 2005 car. Not a bad deal. The prices are listed on a billboard above check-out area, which I appreciate. I like consistency in prices. Smog certificates are sent to the DMV. Dale recommends a day before checking the website to allow time for uploading. Dale made the dreaded-smog-process seamless. The only potential downside would be parking during high volume hours, so you may be best calling in advance or showing up early. read more

Dec 19, 2019-I brought my 94 Explorer in the morning. There was no waiting and Dale was ready to do the smog test. He was friendly and explained what the test entailed. He gave me the cost and proceeded to work. I watched as he clearly knew what had to be done. My SUV passed and I was glad. It only took 25 minutes and I was out. A friend at work recommended Dale at Porter Valley. I was glad to have Dale do the test. I didn't mind driving 30 miles to have Dale do the test.
