I came into Port City Java last week after a while of not visiting any location. Port City has always seemed like a nice local alternative for me instead of the bigger chains. I think that still holds true, but I want to touch on the big three factors. I ordered a frozen coffee. These used to be better I think. It was still alright, but it also used to cost less. Inflation is everywhere, but it can be a tad disappointing when quality decreases too. Again, it wasn't bad just not as great. Service was a bit slow. I was the only one in the store and the employee got my order wrong and then removed whipped cream by scraping it off and pouring a bit out, which resulted in less drink. Atmosphere was fine, but it was slow and this location is slow. Not much to compliment or harp on to be honest. read more

I started coming here versus Starbucks or DRIFT recently, and I was really excited because the people were super friendly. But it became very clear every single time I went to the drive-through that even without a line I would be waiting 10 minutes or more. There is literally nothing worse than just sitting at the drive-through window watching absolutely nothing happen. Needed a drink for the long drive home. So I swung into this place first timer with port city java. I loved the menu had a variety of options, but I stuck to my go to smoothy. Trusty strawberry banana. It was packed with flavor chilled nicely, and was a delite for the whole trip home. Can wait to try again at the location in my town. read more

Port City Java was just what I needed to get my hump day morning started off right! I wasn't aware until recently that there is a location in Leland which is incredibly convenient for those in the area who don't want to have to cross the bridge! The coffee shop is currently decked out in Fall and Halloween decor which, for my favorite time of year, made me feel right at home. I took my first sip of the gingerbread chai in the car and immediately did a little dance at the stop light. Chai can taste a little different from shop to shop, but this drink had a wonderful flavor balance of the brightness of gingerbread and sweetness of chai. The Port City Java in Leland is hit or miss. They take forever to get the food out and lately just cannot get it right. The English muffin is never toasted properly even when we ask them to extra toasted. Last time we were there we asked for avocado spread in our sandwich and it was brown and did not look appetizing. If I was reviewing this place for only the coffee or the food, it would have been a 5 easily. But I can't do that because what I expected to be a casual, relaxed family- friendly atmosphere was, unfortunately, nothing of the kind. While I was there working for the day, a number of families with young children and older people come in while one of the baristas was telling a story during which she used the F*** word, loudly and repeatedly. I am an advocate of free speech, but I also know there is a time, place, and setting for everything. This was none of those things. read more

The Leland PCJ has a ton of young new batista who are kinda grumpy, even for afternoon and asking for just a black iced coffee. As a former pcj batista, just saying they need to be a bit nicer. read more

Good coffee, but unbelievably slow if you order anything else. It should not take 30 minutes to get a very basic breakfast sandwich. I try to support independent coffee shops, but we'll save 45 min and hit Starbucks next time. read more

It's my go to for coffee! I dropped in today between church services. Luckily it is right near my church and within walking distance. My order is usually a large cold brew coffee with almond milk and 1/2 shot of sugar free vanilla. I don't like it sweet so this is the perfect combo for me. Today I was starving so I added on a ham, egg, and cheese on an english muffin. Toasty and cheesy, it hit the spot! Love my PCJ! read more

We stop by hear as it's close to our family's place (really it's the only coffee shop). Good for my experience with PCJ! Decent coffee (pretty run of the mill automatic espresso) with a variety of blended options. Some tasty breakfast sandwich/wrap items and baked goods. Great staff who are friendly and attentive. Other than Bitty & Beau's, my favorite place for coffee (unless I'm making it at home). Wonderful folks at any of their locations and delicious treats to go along with your cup of joe. The location on Market Street is very close to The Bridge Church ILM and is VERY busy on Sunday, but they always have a smile. To let you know how often I've been there on Sundays, I walk in and they immediately begin making a LARGE chocolate milkshake (don't be hating, it's caffeine too!). Port City Java is by far one of the best coffee houses around. This is my go to place for beverages and food. The staff is always courteous and there is never a long wait when I choose to go through the drive thru. I have tried many other coffee shops, but none of them even come close to the quality of the beverages or the food. The atmosphere is a step above the rest as well. If you're looking for good quality beverages and food then look no further. This place is the best hands down. I love their Black and Tan mocha hot or iced, it doesn't matter they are both delicious and the bacon,egg,and cheese on an everything bagel is just awesome. read more

Exceptionally friendly staff for the most part - especially those that have been there for months (or even years!) The managers (can only refer to the current and one right before this one) are the best and know just about everyone who walks in the door - staff always has a smile and makes time for chit chat. Coffee is good of course, just like any other Starbucks/Caribou/etc and price is about the same. The interior of this location is very small, only a few people can sit down and read/do work at a time. I've gotten a breakfast sandwich before when I have been in a rush, and every time I regret it. The breakfast burritos/sandwiches are all microwaved and pretty disgusting. I can't believe what I'm about to say, but I think McDonald's breakfast is better. read more

Similar to other locations. Quick and priced similarly to other chains, although it may be a bit more expensive. I got a small latte and it was just under $4. This location is in "Brunswick Forest", which is a shopping center which seemed to be mostly restaurants. The lattes are good, and I'm pretty sure they put an extra shot of espresso compared with competitors. The service was quick and friendly. I would say this location is smaller, on average, than the others. There were 3-4 tables in there. read more

The staff are super nice and efficient, but this is not a coffee place to sit and work/read at--or even have a one-on-one business meeting. It is extremely noisy (machines sans good acoustics), the music is loud, the chairs scraping the floor are utterly nerve-wracking, and it is VERY small (only a handful of tables). Last, and most importantly, (for coffee snobs), there is no French roast decaf readily available. One must order an Americana in order to achieve this. read more

I just can't understand it why this place is only operating via pick up window by phone in or app. Had no idea of this until I parked and got my handicapped ass out of my car to read a sign ont the door stating use ap or call ahead to order. You guys are loosing more money tha you need to be at this time. All dunkins. Starbucks. Have full service without dine in. A shame I really heard good thing about their coffee and was so looking forward to trying it tonight and help to support a local franchisee. . I wasn't about to use ap or call in and wait probably 10-15 minutes for my order at this point. I was very pleased with my visit to this coffee shop. First, they offered both a made-to-order, French-pressed coffee and organic beans -- rarities in a franchise, in my experience. Second, they were willing to brew it just how I liked it, rather than their standard brew. Third, the building itself was clean, logical, and tastefully decorated. Last, when I accidentally left some jewelry of mine in the men's room, one of the employee's took the time to track me down and return it -- also rare! A glowing experience, all around! Out of all the PCJs I go to regularly, this one is subpar on every level. Poor service, poor barista abilities, pricing never goes in your favor on specialty drinks, and they can't keep up with their orders ever. Stood here for 20 minutes for a small lattè. Go to the Waterford one and you will never be let down in any of these areas. read more

Port City Java is a cute coffee shop with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you go through the drive through on your way to work or stop inside and sit down, the atmosphere is quaint and inviting. My smoothie was made with fresh ingredients and tasted amazing. First time at this location and it's as clean amd pleasant as the others in the Wilnington area. Service was quick and friendly. Coffee is great and the steak and egg breakfast wrap is spicy, warm, and crisped nicely on the outside. The music is good and not to loud. There is a large selection of baked goods and the casual and intimate atmosphere is great for a quiet Sunday stop. read more

Love the personal service this shop offers. The coffee is great too. They have FairTrade coffee which helps the farmers in the countries they purchase the beans from. They best part is this business is locally own and they roast all their own coffee beans. A fresh cup of their House brew is smooth and great with one of their breakfast wraps. read more
