Absolutly Horrible! We were the only people in line waiting and took 5-7 mins for someone to acknowledge us. We stopped on a whim as a coworker at the airport was hungry and couldn't leave. We were close by and this is what they chose. Now, I'm a Midwesterner that lives in a vinegar state so I wasn't exactly excited to try it but did want to give it a shot. I died as It was the most uncooked BBQ I've ever eaten. The burnt ends were infact not burnt nor KC style. You can see the fat caps. There was absolutely no flavor, the brisket was dry, same as the sliced turkey. My friend doesn't eat pork (I do) so we decided on 2 carbs as the greens and baked beans have pork. The Mac was literally trash. They use a roux. You can taste the uncooked flour in the cheese sauce and the potato salad are Yukons' cut in half tossed in unseasoned mayo and dill. I was very disappointed. I did try the Original, Sweet, and Smokey sauces as i'm a Midwesterner and hate Carolina vinegar based sauce. They were actually really good. I mixed the sweet with the spicy and it gave great flavor. The sad part is that the Cornbread was the best thing we ate in the whole plate. If you're a Q person I'd not recommend this establishment. Its definitely not worth the time or effort. However, if you're a local then support the business. Always enjoy trips here. The food is always solid. Staff are friendly. And the place is clean. The setting is great for hanging out with friends. There's some free parking in the back or street parking outside the restaurant on the main road. Everything I've had has been good. Since they're expanding into bowls, my wife, son, and I tried them. The sandwich was small but decent quality, mac & cheese was good, but the macaroni salad was not good at all. However, I went in to order and stood at the counter for about 5-7 minutes, which isn't bad but there was literally 5 ppl behind the counter, just standing (it wasn't busy ; a Monday night the week of Thanksgiving) and it felt like they all were dodging my gaze. Finally an older gentleman came up and took my order but he had no customer service. Chick fil a's employees have way better customer service than this man did. Anyway, ordered my pulled pork sandwich and still had time before my uber arrived so sat down and started eating. This was THEEE DRIEST PULLED PORK I have ever had! Even after adding the NC Vinegar based BBQ sauce. It was also just pork. No slaw (that could've probably assisted the dry pork); not even a pickle for a little zing. Literally DRY, much like the customer service. The old saying is "curiosity killed the cat". I'm the cat. Definitely will not be returning. Not just because of the sandwich. Have been here a few times and the barbecue is alright -- the meat tends to be on the drier side, with the exception of the pork and the burnt ends. For sides, love their macaroni and cheese (it is made with jalapeños, so has a bit of a kick) and their collard greens. Drinks consisted of old fashion bottled sodas (root beer) and a variety of fountain flavors Ambience - the restaurant is half sports bar and half dining area. It supports both families and casual diners. The restaurant is self service with food ordering directly from the BBQ station. Our wait staff was Renee and she was very helpful in guiding us to select the deal if the day; and in providing quick, professional service. It is restaurant week in Alexandria and the deals are too good to turn down. For $35, we got a dinner for two which is shown in the photo. The salad was delicious and had cucumbers soaking in a brine that i need a recipe of. The chicken chili is one of the best I've had, and I have had a lot of chili. It could use a little more cheese but that is more of a personal preference. We chose the 1/2 pound of pulled chicken option. It was good, what you expect from BBQ. Our sides were coleslaw and mac and cheese. The coleslaw was okay, the mac and cheese definitely hit the spot for the cheese lovers we are. Finally, the dessert was marble cheesecake with raspberry. We both agreed it would be better if there wasn't raspberry. We also filled our fountain drinks with the freshly squeezed lemonade and it was very sweet, which i like. I ate here ten years ago and didn't like it. I tried again, and while there were some improvements, overall it took a step back, so I figured I'd talk about it. Chopped pork is over-seasoned and under-groomed (too much fat). It does not give you the option of using any of the bbq sauces available, because it is already saturated. Brisket is just plain pathetic. Nothing about it said "bbq." It was just some poorly cooked beef, which I threw away after three bites. Collard greens were undercooked and tough/chewy, but at least they weren't soupy and sweet like before. Coleslaw was drowning in mayo, but I wouldn't complain about the flavor too much, aside from a little vinegar deficiency. Corn bread... is basically pound cake with cornmeal added. Some will love it, some will prefer the rustic, coarse unsweetened variety. I prefer somewhere between rustic and too sweet. Basically they still haven't figured out how to make real bbq. I'm guessing the bar keeps them in business, which is a fairly decent/plausible bar with a nice staff. read more
