Found this place off I-55. This place gives church potluck vibes. The food is southern comfort food--from catfish to creamed corn to beans. There were a couple Asian and pasta dishes as well. The salad bar was one of the best I've ever seen. The desserts finished the potluck feel. There was a table with homemade pies, a spot with banana pudding and other cream desserts, a table with cakes on it, plus cookies and a sundae bar. The vanilla ice cream was superb. Staff was friendly and attentive. Our cups didn't make it to half empty before we offered refills. We will remember Brookhaven and Poppa's for our next trip this direction. read more

The setting is clean and neat. The staff is extremely welcoming and polite. They were quick to refill drinks and assist with anything. The atmosphere is a diverse cross section of the community. The patrons were all happy, having great conversations and they had good music playing. I would highly recommend eating here. Went there 4-10-23, OMG I was so surprised, I read the reviews both good and bad so I didn't know what to expect. Drove up to Brookhaven from our home in Denham Springs to meet my brother & his wife for his belated birthday (they live in McComb and come here quite often it seems because SEVERAL of the servers came up and spoke with them). The buffet was pretty big. I started with fried catfish filets covered with etouffee, fried shrimp, fried oysters, etouffee over rice and a bit of mustard greens. Everything was seasoned very well, batter was tasty, perfection. Next I had the boiled shrimp, which was VERY tasty, omg wish I could've eaten more of these! The only downside and it's not a biggy, the etouffee was a bit garlicky for my tastes and what I'm used to in S. Louisiana. But like I said, no biggy. We just from Atlanta to Wesson, MS and found Poppa's. Our first time there we absolutely loved it. The food was awesome and the service was great. The food was hot and fresh. The only buffet in town, and all homemade so you couldn't ask for much more! Overall.. if you're patient, and want a relatively expensive buffet of good food you don't mind spending a pretty penny on, and wait awhile for.. I recommend! Definitely be selective with the days you choose to go tho, and watch for hours. They are only open for certain hours of the day. Lunches during the week are the "not as" busy times, but not as great of a selection as the weekends. Sunday's lunch.. you can forget about getting a table if you aren't there right at opening. You'll be waiting a good 45 mins to an hour for a table. It's the hot spot after church lunch! However, the food selections are the best. Fish, chicken, ham, the southern sides, the salad bar.. it's all delicious! But it just depends on how patient of a person you are.. cause after the wait for the table, you have to wait in long lines just to get to the buffet. It's like waiting for a line at Disneyland. And with saying that, once you get to the bar you might miss out on something you wanted that round after waiting cause it'll be all gone, and nobody has filled it yet. Of course they're always on their best to restock, but it's always hit and miss! But their homemade pies if they haven't ran out are always a nice way to end. Service.. I'm knocking a star off for that. I've never had a meal here with "good" service, and I ate here every Sunday for 2 years. Yes, it's only a buffet, and yes it's always busy.. but you hardly will get refills, and plates will stack so fast on your table. So with it a buffet and it's their only job to refill drinks, and take plates it's pretty sorry. Plus their attitudes are terrible. I've never seen a waitress we've had there ever crack a smile. They generally just walk over to your table, hover, and stand there looking at you without saying a weird till you just shout your drink at her. This is by far the best Country Buffet we've ever been to. The food was amazing and each Buffet for salad, desserts, bread and main dishes were so clean and presentable. No scattered food on the buffets at all. The cleanest buffet I've ever seen! We even overheard one of the employees looking over the food, to have a dish removed because it didn't look appealing and to bring something else out in its place. Staff were very nice and accommodating and asking more than once if everything was okay. We'll be back for sure! read more

Lettuce was OLD! Which was bad because I don't like their other food. It is not worth the price. And $7.50 for old lettuce was ridiculous but if I wanted a dessert I had to ADD another $2.50. So $10 for old lettuce and a piece of pie that I can get from Walmart!! I vote no. read more
