My my my, indeed, it is a shock to see that Popina's has never been reviewed before this very day.
Back in the days of being a student, I used to search for the first and foremost place I would consider to be 'my local' in the morning after the night before fry-up category. I had a favourite when I first came to Leeds many moons ago, then I went to Popinas and stole the crown. A greasey spoon that if you fancy it sets boys and girls a challenge to eat the most enormous plate of food in the world, to have your success marked by way of a tally on a black board. Oh, what an incentive.
They do a fry-up complete with 'free' cuppa for just under a fiver. I have to say that despite the food being nicer than you'd find elsewhere in the surrounding area, this is my one drawback: the prices. They are just a little higher than I believe they should be considering its setting, deep in the heart of studen-infested Hyde Park. Having said that, they do the typical breakfast food you'd expect, as well as burgers (that I continue to believe have never been ordered), jacket potatoes and toasties.
There is seating indoors, although it is normally full, particularly at the weekend, and tables outside for the warmer months.
It location is great, prices are affordable yet a little steep for my liking. A real student favourite. read more
