It was the end of August on a Wednesday when we visited during the day, but it was still crazy busy. Quite frankly, we only went to take a brief stroll and to enjoy a small meal plus drinks at Rachel's Ginger Beer and Pike Place Chowder. Parking prices are insane, but there is a hack to get around having to pay for parking, so long as you only stay for an hour. Playing tourist is fun sometimes, but having to scooch your way through crowds oohing and ahhing at the sights does get old quickly. As I have been to Seattle, albeit years ago, it was nothing too new for me, but I did want to show my husband around, since it was his first time visiting. The gum wall was as disgusting as I remember, but you can't go to Pike Place without seeing it. The fishmongers throwing fish were just as awesome as I remember as well. Walking past the original Starbucks and seeing the people wait in line was amusing. Beecher's Handmade Cheese with their now semi-automated machines is always mesmerizing to witness in person. Overall, it was cool looking at the various vendors and purchasing a few mementos (such as a box of Chukar cherries), but we very quickly got over it. Now, what a difference it is when you visit Pike Place at night! Mind you, we went on a Saturday evening around 21:00 and it was substantially less busy. After hours parking at their designated parking garage is also so much more worth it. Keep in mind that the restrooms do close as well, and I made that mistake assuming they would be open. I had to ask one of the security guards about the restroom situation, and he pointed me to one of the restaurants open late. It seemed like the staff knew about folks needing to use the bathroom at night, and I was graciously granted access. If you want to get cool pics like what I envisioned and made tangible, go at night. While there may be a small line of folks, it's nothing compared to all the tourists vying for the right spots during the day, and nothing screams tourists like people trying to take photos in bright sunlight with a ton of people in the background. Newt, my well-behaved and well-trained Siberian, and I were quite the spectacle that evening. We enjoy performing our piggyback trick every place we visit, and I had the vision to have my husband capture THE shot of us in front of the iconic Pike Place Market sign at night. And of course, we made it happen. I got some solo shots of my boy as well, and they turned out beautifully. A local tour guide and her group were mesmerized by Newt and I, and it seemed to be a highlight of their evening. It was so nice visiting in the evening, and everyone was a lot more chill. I even helped capture a few shots for several couples in front of the iconic sign. After getting our own shots, we quickly went on our way, and explored the rest of the waterfront before heading out. I'm glad we were able to experience Pike Place both in the daytime and evening, and if we wanted to return for some specific vendors and shops, we will, but overall it's not worth how much time we spent circling around (during the daytime) for.

The selection is super fashionable, even if the prices are a bit high. On the other hand, given the quality and brand of clothing they offer, I don't think the prices are exorbitant. Meeting Gracie, baker/owner of Grayseas Pies, was a wonderful convergence yesterday (10/24/21)…read more First heard of Gracie venturing out with her successful pies and pop up collaborations from fellow Yelp Elite/IGer friend, Wendy K. I missed out on a previous event hosted at Musang, but lucked out this time with a pre-order placed for pickup on Sunday afternoon. Often these baked goods are sold out pronto. Thankfully, there were no sports events scheduled, but freeway traffic was dense, trying to arrive in time, and dodge the forecasted bomb cyclone deluge. The pop up was hosted at Archipelago in Seattle's Hillman City where I received warm greetings from both Gracie plus Archipelago's Chef Aaron and Amber with their young child. Shortly thereafter even Wendy K was there too. Convergence of all these individuals truly made my day. This pop up was also a collaboration for Filipino American History Month. Her Calabasa Pie was baked with squash from local Filpino farmers and spice mix crafted with Archipelago. Delicious and with such depth of flavor! The paired beverage was from Enroot, a sparkling cold brew tea with apple lemon, cayenne, and yerbe mate. Side note : founded by Brad Pitt to help support the James Beard Foundation. Pairing beverage with dessert to highlight tasting notes was brilliant. And the unique sticker provided in the pop up package was inspired by Amber at Archipelago and created by the Ninang Nunu line available through Etsy. Yet another supportive, creative Filipino artist! Gracie of Grayseas Pies also raises donations through sales to benefit social justice organizations. The overall cross pollination and collaborative spirit among so many individuals in the local community is something I can truly support. That's Grayseas wrapped into one little Filipino Woman owned business. I believe everyone one of her pop up a certain amount of proceeds have been donated to various foundations. on top of that she's genuinely one of the sweetest people I've met. So gracious and welcoming. I had been following Grayseas pop ups on Instagram thanks to fellow Yelpers Bryan K, Nelson L and another friend Ray for awhile but timing and location didn't always work. Until I was visiting my dad's on a weekend where the pick up was at The Station coffee house on Beacon Hill. The majority of the time you'll find her picks at minority or women owned businesses. This particular pop up she and another baker were doing a fundraiser for Filipinx Food Seattle documentary. I had pre ordered three of her pocket pies. The flavors were Peach Mango, Elote and Alex Pie a tribute to her brother (strawberry cream Oreo). So delicious!! What I like most about her flavors are that they aren't overly sweet. She doesn't do savory often so if you see one jump on it. My favorite that day was the elote!! So far one of my favorite Filipino inspired flavors has been the calamansi meringue and I'm not usually a meringue person. The pick up was at Hood Famous in the ID another Filipino Woman Owned business. Loved the unique tartness of the calamansi also if you have seen how small calamansi are you would understand how much work went into this one. My sister in law is Filipino and my brother is always trying Filipino recipes so whenever I get one of Gracie's pies that is influenced with Filipino flavors I'll save some to share with them. For the entire month of October Filipino American History Month Gracie did collaborations and pick ups at a number of Filipino owned businesses around town. A portion of proceeds for all sales in October are going to the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns. The pies were paired with Enroot Tea another Filipino owned business. I was able to pick up two of the five offerings. The pick ups I was able to get were the cassava langka at Musang and the Kalabasa pie at Archipelago. Both were delicious and ingredients I hadn't had before also loved the teas and can't wait to buy more. Each pairing also had stickers created specifically for each location pick up by artist @ninangnuni What I reallu loved was reading the stories behind the reason she selected each location. Paul is very helpful and friendly and is always kind when the kids ask so many questions! My friend Devin recommended me going into the store to check out the RC cars and WOW...it is so fun! They have an indoor track and they even let me bring my doggie in when it was too hot outside to leave him in the car! Overall, great fun place to pick up toys, RC cars, and even more for the serious hobbyist!
