Social Beer Garden just doesn't do it for me. I've been once or twice years ago and recently…read moredecided to give it another try, hoping for a different experience, but unfortunately I still left unimpressed. To start out, the concept feels like a blend of accents from other popular bars in the area - the hammock chairs from Axelrad, the Adirondack chairs from Truck Yard, and the string light back patio from 8th Wonder. This blend makes it hard to give the bar a true identity. While they do have a large selection of beers on tap, their cocktail menu leaves me feeling lost. I appreciate the attempt to create unique flavor combinations but the options are just...confusing. For example, mezcal with citrus and prickly pear, or a highball with black currant, tequila and apricot. I'm holding on for dear life with all of these ingredients! Going along for the adventure, I tried their pickle cocktail that was on the menu and it was honestly, terrible. While they do have a happy hour that goes until 8pm, the service this last visit just wasn't the best. The server who helped me told me it was his second day and was clearly struggling to keep up with the cocktail combinations, referencing his phone many times while preparing the drink. I ended up not liking this drink and brought it back to the bar with just one sip gone and rather than offering to make me another drink, they kept it on my bill. Ok, whatever. That being said, just before this happened, the couple in front of me went to pay for their bill, prepared drinks in hand, at 8:02pm and the bartender refused to honor the happy hour prices, just two minutes past the official end time. With these two instances, it seems like the priority is maximizing every dollar of profit rather than investing in the customer experience. Given the number of other original concepts in the area, I would pass.

I stopped in on a Friday evening for a night cap. The bar is a pretty decent size and they have their own parking lot. They have a large patio out front and there was plenty of seating indoors as well. It's a sports bar so there were a lot of TVs throughout. They also have arcade games including Skee Ball and Pop-A-Shot. The menu had beer, wine, and cider, but they do have a full bar. I didn't see any specialty cocktails on the menu so I just asked the bartender, Marc to make me a gin based cocktail. Marc came up with his version of a Corpse Reviver. It had a tart, yet fruity twist to it. I can't recall all of the ingredients he used, but I liked it. I also had a Gimlet which was really good. Marc informed me about The Railyard shot special. Any time a train rolls by, you can purchase a vodka based shot for $2. I'm not much of a shot person, but I went ahead and ordered a White Tea shot. It was really good. Everyone in the bar was friendly and I appreciated the diversity of the clientele. Super chill place, just as a dive should be.

We asked if we could do a quick interview in the patio and the lady working the bar with the dragonfly said no and we would have to contact the marketing department blah blah blah. We wanted to change locations. She didn't have the liquor we wanted on hand for a margarita but she wouldn't let us cancel our order because, "she had already started it". When she went to ring us up her system was down so she wrote out the ticket on a sheet of paper. For a Marriott boutique hotel it's no wonder they have three stars. Also, the employee we interacted with was not very service oriented. It just wasn't the most pleasant experience. I won't patronize there again.

Uggghhh We went here on their grand opening night, so we were expecting more. I am so sad they did not deliver. This place is located at the new swank W Aloft Hotel located foot steps from the Galleria Mall. First off, do not park across the street at the plaza that houses Capital Grille, they will tow here. The hotel has a parking garage located at its rear. After finding parking fairly easily on the second floor, we walked to the elevator to go down to the bar. When I say wait, I mean waiting 5-10 minutes for a freakin elevator. I think these are the only elevators in the parking garage. So on busy nights and on weekends this can definitely get backed up. When we finally made it downstairs, this place was a packed house. The music was blaring and people were dressed to the nines. I guess I didn't get the memo that it was "Dressed to Impress" night. As soon as you step in, this place is chaotic and pretty unorganized. Don't get me wrong this place gets a solid 8 on the luxury scale, but the atmosphere and lack of bar staff definitely was not worth it. This place was definitely short staff on their opening night, shouldn't they know that they will need a full staff to prepare for battle of the oncoming bar hoppers and club goers. Duh! The bar staff they did have were as slow as molasses. So slow that we didn't even get one single drop of liquor after 15 minutes or so. As we waited we looked over the menu, which had an array of cool and inventive cocktails and martinis they also offer small bar bites. After the 15 minute mark with no liquor in our system, we decided to leave. We left hot, frustrated and alcohol free, which concludes to the 2 stars review. I might try this place again, but for right now I'll let all the hype die down before attempting a second trip.
