I've been a client of Pooch Paws (first to review under old Yelp name) for over 20 years, because Cheryl was the only groomer around who knew how to groom a miniature schnauzer to breed standard. I was a bit put off when she changed her business model to a network of independent groomers and cut back her hours to take only those who were coming in every 4 weeks. My boy Apollo gets the full treatment every 8 weeks. However, she introduced me in May to Eric Matthew who is expert in terrier grooming, and after yesterday's appointment all fears were vanquished. He did a superb job and I feel totally confortable continuing Apollo's sessions with him every eight weeks. read more

Someone deleted my review? March 3, 2023 I took my dog to Pooched Paws to get my dog groomed. It's the last time! Well they clipped my dogs ear after I paid $120 to have him sedated because he wouldn't sit still for his head and chest to be groomed. Then the grooming of my 10 pound Yorkie went from the quoted $90 to $130!! $250 day to have my dog groomed AND injured by supposedly professional groomers? I went with the flow (wouldn't have been that way 10-15 years ago) and left with my dog. No effort made to comp me on the price. I kept my eye on the ear. After 3 weeks I became concerned that his ear looked like the tissue was dying, part of the damaged ear was a lump that was hard and black. So I made an appointment with my vet for the next day. The vet cleaned it thoroughly and put some suave on it and told me if it gets any worse to come back. I paid the vet $85. I sent a message along with the receipt asking Pooch Paws how they want to handle this? A nasty reply came back saying that I didn't take care of my dog. That his hair was matted in places. Well I assumed you added an additional $40 to the quoted price of $90. Needless to say this place is absolutely awful both in grooming and in business. I sent every groomer there explaining what happened and that this was a poor decision to respond that way but also not reimbursing me just the $85 I was expecting wouldn't be an issue. Why should all of the groomers have suffer from a bad review I wrote, adding they'll be collateral damage because of one inept person at Pooch Paws. Get this; I received a phone call from the Hanover Police Department. As soon as I saw who it was from, I answered and said "Hello officer, I know what this is about. It's a civil matter, not criminal." The officer was very polite and professional. He said he had explained that to them, but they were concerned about their safety. All of the groomers apparently went to the police station with the printed out emails. Which is fine with me because I never threatened any of them. Well the officer said, they thought that some of your words used was threatening. Like what I asked? The words 'collateral damage' he replied. So because no one there understood the term, it's threatening I replied? Wow, I told the officer that if he has all of the printed emails we exchanged then he should know the closest threat that I made is well you might be taken to small claims court. Under our laws, that is a Right, not a threat. At least it used to be? The officer said that I might receive a No Trespass Order or a Restraining Order. I told the officer that I'm a law abiding citizen and that he doesn't have to worry about me returning to Pooch Paws ever. I'll either take them to small claims court and/or give them a bad review on Yelp. Well the conversation ended with the officer, which was a pleasant conversation. Well guess what? That coming Saturday a knock at the door came. It was a postman asking me to sign for a letter. They took out a No Trespass Order against me. Hilarious and absolutely ludicrous is all I can say! Oh and here's something I forgot to write above; in the initial reply to me from Pooched Paws, I was questioned why didn't I come to them instead of going to my vet? Oh I must have missed the part about the business was also an unlicensed veterinarian hospital as well. So they are apparently practicing vet services illegally as I didn't see a license on the wall or their website that says they can. I thought this bad review deserved to be explained to anyone reading and wondering what had transpired. If I could, I'd grade them a -10 on a 1 to 10 scale. DON'T PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS!!!! read more

We gave this place two tries to see how they would do for our cocker spaniel. The first cut was not what we were hoping for and we needed to touch her up. Her paws were shaggy with hair over growing through the pads, her skirt was removed, her arm pits were left shaggy, and her face was left mostly untouched (though we did request her whiskers be left alone, so that may be on us). The hair on her back and neck was left too fuzzy, resulting in a very un-cocker-like cut. The second cut was mostly the same, with her face only lightly touched up and the hair on her nose and between the eyes looking shaggy almost like a schnauzer. Even worse, they cut off her whiskers and eye lashes. She's already knocked her head into a cabinet. They may be good with other breeds, but we won't be taking our cocker spaniel back. read more

My daughter dropped off her love to be groomed today at Pooch Paws Hanover Ma. She arrived early to witness the male groomer thrashing him around, swearing adjectives at him, which resulted in an injury to his paw, which has been documented. She immediately intervened, and the groomer said sorry, its been a bad day, to many appointments. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Complaints have been filed with the state. If you think your pet is safe there, i would think again. read more

We are very happy with the work that Cheryl and her team do. They listened to us, are skillful at their work and take good care of our Cavachon. In addition, Cheryl is has earned a number of awards for her work, including one for grooming a champion dog at a premiere national show. Before Pooch Paws, we tried another groomer a couple times, and our pup came back looking like a French poodle -- cute but silly looking. During our first visit, Cheryl asked what kind of cut we wanted. We didn't know how to describe it, so she asked, "Do you trust me to do something nice?" We agreed, and were thrilled which the results. He looked great! We even got a follow up thank you card with a picture of our dog in a Santa hat. It was a thoughtful thing and we appreciated it. I was very happy with the care of my dog & the results of his bath, ear cleaning & nail clip but was take off guard about the cost. Upon arriving for the 1st time there I asked the cost & was quoted $40-$50 depending on the time. I didn't want the dog put under a dryer (dry skin, asked for towel dry only). He was with the groomer from 2:25 & picked him up at 3:10 & the charge was $55. I think this is too much for 45 minute appointment. read more

I started bringing my 1 1/2 year old Morkie here for grooming services after I was dissatisfied with Petco and PetSmart. i will tell you that they do an excellent job and their customer service is unbelievable. ANywhere else I have brought my dog, she comes home shaking and visibly upset. Now Zoey comes home happy and looking great. They also follow my requests to cut her a little on the short side (so I do not need to have her hair cut as often) and they do as I ask. I highly recommend them. They are so pleasant to deal with and you can tell that they actually care about the animals and are not just in this to make money! read more

This was my first time taking my Great Dane here. The price was extremely reasonable, especially for such a large dog. Petco charged much more and they took considerably less time and care. Pooch Paws clearly put time and effort into him. His coat has never looked so nice and he smelled fantastic. He came out very happy, tail wagging. PoochPaws does a fantastic job grooming our Jack Russell. He has a rough coat so it is supposed to be "pulled" which they do expertly so they it does not hurt our dog and looks great. His coat is soft and looks awesome when he comes home. It is always busy there and the groomers seem to really care. My dog comes out looking ready to show! (Even though he is only going to daycare and home). We drive there from Cohasset but it is well worth it. read more

We took our two beagles to Pooch Paws for nail cutting. One was a very energetic puppy and the other was an older, blind dog with knee problems. Cheryl and Ron have been grooming our dogs (a golden retriever and two labrador retrievers) for easily 15 (maybe 20?) years. We have always been happy with their service and they have always been able to manage the dog's varying personalities and grooming needs. I always appreciate it when they notice "the little things", like a brewing ear infection (common with our water-loving dogs), or a cracked foot pad, and bring those things to our attention so we can follow-up afterwards. Also, recently our yellow lab got into something that smelled absolutely awful, and I was so grateful when Ron was able to fit her in at the last minute so that she did not stink up the whole house any longer! I have been bringing my Boston Terrier to Pooch Paws going on 11 years. I found them in the phone book and have been completely satisfied ever since. I've heard such good things about Pooch Paws that I'm really disappointed to say that I did not have a good experience. Two weeks ago I called and spoke with a very nice woman (hence the two stars instead of one) who politely explained everything to me and we booked an appointment for today to have my Maine Coon cat get a lion cut for the summer. I was bummed that it would take 2 weeks to see him, but it was my fault for not getting him in sooner. He HATES the car so I was adamant about minimizing that and so I called this morning to confirm but had to leave a voicemail, that has yet to be returned, and my 2 other calls this afternoon to follow up went to voicemail also. My fiance took his lunch break to bring him down, we all know what a hassle it to get a pet in a carrier and in the car, and when he got there was told 'they didn't know why he was there, they don't do cats, and had no record of me at all in the system'. He eventually explained that 'ok, they do do cats, but only his wife and she's not there'. That makes sense because when I made the appointment I was told the reason it would take two weeks was because there was only on person that does cats so someone dropped the ball in scheduling or not showing up and I wouldn't care AS much if I hadn't explained to them when I made the appointment about his fear of the car so a wasted trip does not make me happy. Would love to give this place another chance but after my fiance saw a dog step off the table and hang off the edge by a leash attached to the station we decided to find somewhere else. I hope my experience was a rare occurrence but I was too disappointed in them not to share. read more

Thank goodness we found Pooch Paws! Our dog is a soft coated wheaten terrier named Casey. Although he is friendly and loveable he was nearly impossible to groom. We had gone through three different groomers. Each groomer eventually refused to continue to groom him due to his skittish behavior. Finally we found Cheryl at Pooch Paws and she has successfully groomed Casey for the past ten years. We couldn't recommend a better or more patient groomer. read more

We adopted a dog back in 2003, a black lab/rottweiler mix around 70 lbs. and quite the couch potato (he has claimed the best seat in the house). We thought it would be a good idea to have him routinely groomed as a result. We were referred to Pooch Paws by a neighbor and have been taking him there every month ever since. Ron, Cheryl and Krystal are all so friendly and so kind to our boy. He comes out looking just beautiful; clean, nails perfectly trimmed, fluffy and smelling good. Whenever we have questions that go beyond the grooming world, they are also very knowledgeable and spend the time to discuss whatever pet question you may have on your mind. I have referred a few people to them and will continue to do so as they are the best in the area in my opinion. I always feel that our boy is in good hands when I drop him off and he's always ready to be picked up at the time that they tell us he'll be ready. No waiting, no problems, always a good experience.
