This was another beautiful beach that we recently visited last month. This beach is in a very wealthy suburb community, approximately 18 miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville, Florida. On the day that we visited this beach, it was not very crowded compared to some of the other surrounding beaches. Overall we had a great time and just enjoyed the beautiful weather. read more

This is a wonderful beach to visit and even a better place to live! Ponte Vedra is where most of the "Elite People" live. They have nice places to shop and dine. Even the grocery stores are top notch. I occasionally stay at a Air BNB out here called, The North Star. It looks like a barn. The Propieters live upstairs. You stay downstairs. This is an easy entrance in to the place where you stay. If you go there, tell Becky, that Rebecca sent you. Ponte Vedra has a lot to do. I HIGHLY recommend this beach and area to hang out and or live. read more

Great place for a run or just hang out. It's about a mile from the hotel I stay in for work while I'm in Jax. Usually not crowded, really clean, lots of shell hunting and friendly folks walking up and down the shore. Beautiful homes and great views abound! read more

***Ponte Vedra Beach (near Jacksonville) is a very nice beach with not too cold water and lots of sand; a lot of the sand is smooth too and not rocky; I have heard that this beach is not that easy to access due to how much space the Ponte Vedra Beach Inn & Club takes up, but it is a nice beach to spend the day if you can get here*** I am not sure what the parking situation is here; I do not believe Ponte Vedra Beach Inn & Club offers parking to non-guests or non-members. read more

We were in Jacksonville for the weekend and Ponte Vedra Beach had good reviews. We were not disappointed. The beach was clean and quiet. Nice crowd, but not crowded. Finding parking wasn't fun, only because we probably took the wrong exit. We did some sightseeing looking for parking. The homes near the beach are beautiful! read more

This end of the beach is awesome if you want to enjoy the surf while relaxing and reading a book. It's quieter than the beaches in Jax Beach, Neptune or Atlantic Beach. If you want to surf, boogie board, or ride your beach cruiser you won't have to contend with hordes of people. read more

Let me start off by saying I am by no means ritzy, fancy schmancy or part of Elite Society (except on Yelp, of course lol) and I have been here many times without having to reserve, pay or know anyone special. I say that because after reading Hilary L's review and her list of things that will allow you access to the beach, I'm like "Huh? Not really..." lol I have been here MANY times and have always gotten on the beach with no problem, no questions asked. No, it's not just me pulling a back door stunt; if you drive far enough through the neighborhood, you will start to come up on the real live mansions (like, with gates cutting them off from the rest of the world type) and right as you start feeling like you should go back the way you came, BAM there's the open-to-the public parking lot. It's very spacious with bathrooms and shower areas as well as a few pathways that lead directly to the beach. This particular area, I just learned (Thanks Shelley M!) is called Mickler's Landing. So, hopefully that's some good news to the 99% (including you Miss Hilary...spend that hard earned $150 on something else and enjoy Nature for free *smile*) Be warned, the route is a little (ok, a whole lot) intimidating; every home looks like you'd see it on an episode of MTV Cribs. Mini mansions, golf clubs, country clubs, My-daddy's-rich-so-I-am-too clubs...but beautiful to look at nonetheless. Very quiet, perfectly manicured, upscale neighborhoods is what you get to feast your eyes on while heading to the beach. The atmosphere is very family oriented; I love watching the kids and pets run around like lil crazies, the old couples stroll along the water hand and hand, the young couples lounging and the book readers occasionally people watching (like me). No matter how many people are there, it's never too packed...I have always been able to easily find a spot to sit by myself (or ourself if I'm with company) without any interruptions. Simply B-E-A-utiful. I need to put this back on my list as something to do every weekend because it's atmosphere is so compatible with me and I haven't been in a while. If you are in the mood for the beach but can do without the stereotypical beach-y setting, then I definitely recommend Ponte Vedra for a relaxing experience! :-) read more

This is why I love living in NE Florida. The beach is easy to get to via a system of parking lots located on the opposite side of A1A. They recently added crosswalk lights so that you feel a bit safer walking across the road where people can go a bit fast at times. The beach portion is beautiful. Typically when I visit Jacksonville, I head to Jacksonville Beach. Never again! Ponte Vedra is where it's at. First of all, it is beautiful. When one thinks of Florida, the view from Ponte Vedra is what should come to mind. Also, it was very empty. We were there on a holiday weekend and while there were other people there, it wasn't nearly as much traffic as you would see on Jacksonville Beach. Ponte Vedra truly gives a feeling of seclusion. Well, this sure is something. Around the beach entrance there is always a cluster of people who planted their umbrellas the moment they reached the sand, but walk 100 feet in either direction and you are likely to be completely alone for miles and miles. It is extraordinary. These beaches are very unlike the ones I am used to. They stretch as far as you can see, with maybe a little curve to hide the far end. Or maybe it ends over the horizon. The sand is unfamiliar too. Much of it is heavy silt, almost muddy when wet. But on top of that is the coarse material of crushed seashells. And billions of uncrushed seashells too. And crabs, and sharks teeth and shapes unidentified. An awesome display of the wealth of life in our oceans. read more

We stopped to frolic at South Ponte Vedra Beach and what a beautiful place! Secluded, tranquil with miles of beach lined with sea shells, few folks surf fishing and just plain beautiful nature at its finest. This is the First beach we've encountered where the water was so warm.. It was almost not refreshing.. But I'll take it any day! This is as ritzy as it gets in Jacksonville. Technically in St. John's County, and so not a part of Jacksonville really. This is the southern most beach in the strip of beaches along the Jacksonville shoreline. And boy is it fancy schmancy. First of all, this beach is located inside the elite neighborhood of Ponte Vedra. The houses here range from the out of this world beach front mansions to the relatively small ranch-style housing, but don't be fooled. Even the small ones are worth a fortune. It is all location location location. The beaches here are exclusively available to members of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, visitors of the Ponte Vedra Resort, both of which cost a fortune, or to the residents of the neighborhood. [Not entirely sure how this all breaks down, you may get a membership for living there?] Basically, somehow, someway, they keep the riff raff out. And by riff raff I mean anyone besides the exclusively fancy. That isn't to say you can't enjoy these beaches, with their hammocks and their privacy and their ocean front, pool side bars. You just need one of three things: 1) A friend or relative who is a member who will nicely take you with them. 2) A night of lodging at the PV Inn or PV Lodge [both wonderful choices, although I choose the Lodge, personally, for its hot tubs], or an appointment at the PV Spa [any of those things will grant you access and all three are amazing choices]. 3) Beaucoup's of money to buy a membership. This place will relax you like no other beach in Jacksonville. It's wealthy. It's fancy. Its calm. It's well dressed. Its serene. It's expensive. [That last one isn't relaxing for the likes of me, but maybe for the rich and famous...] It's exclusive. I highly recommend finding a means to wiggle your way onto this beach. It's worth the $150 massage [that is worth it just on its own]. Or the night at the Lodge. It's about as luxurious as you will find in these parts. And sometimes we all need a little luxury. UPDATE: Just got wind that the Cabana Club, next to the PV Club, also has access to the beach. It's also a private club, but still, another one to add to your options! read more

Ponte Vedra Beach (or PVB if you live here) is definitely one of the nicer beaches in North Florida. While Hilary L. is correct that most of it is deeded private access to the homeowners, condo owners & the different country clubs that line the shore, there is some public access a little bit further south at Mickler's Landing (http://www.yelp.com/biz/micklers-beach-ponte-vedra-beach). They've even built a much bigger parking area to accommodate all those that want to visit. read more

A great beach that's basically inaccessible to the every day public, due to a general lack of access.

Back 40 is a very cool causal place to eat..We were waited on right away. We started with Cajun Shrimp black bean quesadilla. Awesome! Perfectly cooked fresh shrimp and just the right amount of cheese. We also ordered the Mahi Wrap and chips and salsa. Additionally, we ordered Avocado taco and Mahi Taco special. We concluded with the Key Lime pie and black coffee. Our meal and dessert were very good. We will be eating here again. read more

Great place! We visit every year for Easter with our family! It is one of favorite places. Just step right outside the room and your on the beach. And of coarse you've got the heated pool just steps away. Love it! read more
