All you South-Beach types might need to keep driving, but that's fine for the rest of us left to enjoy the Fernandina magic. Laid-back N.Florida vibes and a fun downtown scene sum up the sun-scene. First stop the beach. Wide flat spaces give plenty of room for strolls, runs, or bike rides. Stop along the way at the beachfront hangout to dine in ocean breezes. Plenty of choices on the beach side or across the street, or grab a hotel/house within walking distance of the sand. Next let's head downtown where the lighted trees illuminate your search for the perfect little beachside dining experience. You'll have many choices from burgers to Cuban and of course seafood or "American". When you're full, stroll further to find some ice cream or just head back to the beach for some night views. Get up early to enjoy the sunrise, and get ready to do it all again. Time will begin to flow together with the waves and sun as you lose yourself in Fernandina. I'll return when I'm ready to relax as usual.

Fernandina Beach is a beautiful beach with calm waves and natural dunes. located in Nassau County, Florida, on Amelia Island. There is an interesting history that one can discover while on Amelia Island such as the Spanish presence during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. We were fortunate to have a balcony view of Fernandina Beach from our hotel to enjoy sunrise and the evening sounds of the beach.

What a beautiful place to see a sunrise or just hang out and enjoy the day . Lots of parking next to the Sandbar restaurant

The best I can go for the town and for beach part of Fernandina Beach is a simple OK, three stars. Neither the town nor the main beach are very impressive. The Main Beach itself is quiet to the point of being plane straight out boing. Yes, the water is nice. The sand is nice too, but that is pretty much common to all of the beaches of Florida and this beach has nothing to set it apart. There are showers, toilet facilities and a little children's playground, but other than free parking, nothing and with nothing nearby of any noteworthy attraction. Likewise the town of Fernandina Beach doesn't amount to much. None of the restaurants have anything that would distinguish them or mark them as special. However, the all do serve up really fresh tasty seafood. For camping, however, I've found Fernandina Beach's Fort Clinch to really be super with its charm of live oak and hanging air moss.

I absolutely love Fernandina Beach. The beach is very clean and the water is clear. What I really love about this beach is it has never been crowded (at least not when we've been here). We've always had a whole lot of space all to ourselves. There's free parking in different areas and it's a short walk down to the beach. Make sure you do wear flip-flops because the sand does get very hot! Great beach to come to if you're looking for a more peaceful experience or romantic experience. I also love to come here when I'm doing beach photo shoots because I can get great shots without people being in the background. I just recently did my daughter's maternity photos here. This is also a good beach to find shells. I mean, there's not like a plethora of them or anything, but I've more whole shells here than I at any of our other beaches.

My favorite local beach yet!!! Very clean & family friendly or for a getaway by yourself!

We come here once or twice a year to visit family from out of town. The beach is absolutely beautiful no matter the time of year. Seashells line the beach for miles. There are not typically a lot of people out around February, so it's more peaceful.

It takes a bit to walk from the parking lot to the water so we understood why so many folks had those carts with wheels. There were a few benches at the edge of the parking lot right on the start of the beach. We sat for a bit here, too, enjoying a cool breeze coming off the water. Although there's no shade anywhere except if you've brought your own umbrella, it was still pleasant. We did join the folks looking for sharks teeth. The beach has been replenished with fill so if you dig a bit by the water, you can uncover all sorts of tiny bits. We hadn't come prepared with digging tools as some had so we were not seriously looking. And the folks with their metal detectors were also wending their way up and down. We liked this beach and if we'd been in town longer, we'd have come here again for a bit of r and r. It's great that it is a public beach open to all. There were not many people swimming or even in the water. I'm not sure if it was undertow there or not. There were no lifeguards that we saw.

There is something here for everyone and for people of all abilities. Most of the main part of the island is flat, including from the dock and up to the ruins (it's about 0.4 to half a mile from the dock to the ruins--and there are beach wheelchairs). There's also a main road that traverses the island from one end to the other for about 18 miles that can be traveled by bicycle. There's also an inn and multiple historical structures you can visit. You can also visit a beautiful, mostly empty beach! I got off at the first stop, which is the most challenging stop, meaning I had to climb over sand dunes to get to the beach. It was QUITE the workout and exhausting (I felt it for days after). Someone told me that the second ferry stop is a much easier, more direct path to the beach. This was a wonderful, serene location. I saw several groups of horses along my hike. The greenery is beautiful. I wouldn't mind coming back and setting up camp (permit required) so I can travel the whole island on bike and by foot. Spending more time on the tranquil beach. I wouldn't spend time at the end, as it's 900-1000 dollars or more per night with a two night minimum. If you're looking to visit the island during the day, the RiverView Hotel is RIGHT THERE, essentially directly across from the ferry, and costs about 200 a night for great vintage rooms with comfy beds. Please see my reviews of the ferry and Molly's tours to build a whole itinerary. You'll never see anything else like this, anywhere else in the world probably. It's a fairly cost effective trip, with the ferry costing just over 40 bucks round trip, the inn costing about 200 a night, and the island entry fee being just a few bucks.
