Stockton Park is a lovely little park. It is clean, well-maintained, provides plenty of shade with a nice view of the water, is great for fishing, has a gazebo perfect for ritual human sacrifice, and is just an overall pleasant place to be. We came here for a picnic over the weekend because we simply had to get out of the house during this pandemic while keeping our distance from anyone else at the same time. Stockton Park is more than suitable for checking those boxes. I wish there was a little less road noise, but that's not the fault of the park. Come here when you need a nice little burst of nature.

This is a pretty cool little park (if you can find it) in the heart of Ortega. It is a quaint little hub to go fishing, have a picnic, take your kids out, shoot some photos, throw an event or just to be near the water. It's pleasantly equipped with picnic tables, swings, shaded areas and a gazebo for anyone who wants to get out in nature. A private and peaceful place to enjoy the day quietly people watching or reading on the grass. And best of all, it won't cost you a dime.

I've driven past this park more times than I can count and just have never had a chance to check it out. My younger niece prefers Stinson, just down the road, for the playground. However, Stockton is the perfect park for me. During the few times that I've been here so far, folks have been hanging out on blankets, sitting in the trees reading, fishing, and just enjoying the outdoors. I have been trying to find a place with an uninterrupted view (no trees, no buildings, no cell towers) to watch rocket launches when the weather dictates. Stockton Park gives an absolutely incredible view in general, but moreso for the likes of space geeks in Jacksonville. It sits right near a wide expanse of the St. John's and, on a good day, you can see for miles. At sunset, the view is incredible. I have to catch a sunrise, here, at some point. The first big surprise upon walking into this park is the rather large hill, at least for this part of Florida. I also love the amount of shade at this park compared to others around Jacksonville. It seems with most Jax Parks that the trees are cleared out for playing fields. Not here. The lofty trees and shade make for a peaceful visit, and like Jo El said, there is absolutely no noise pollution.

Have a doggone good day! Pet watering station.

This is a sweet little park in Ortega, right on the river. It's kept very clean and well maintained. There are plenty of picnic tables (handicapped accessible) and water fountains. The trees are old and picturesque. The little gazebo at the river's edge is charming. My son and daughter-in-law were married there and it was quite beautiful. When they come back to Jacksonville to visit, we always try and have a picnic here. Downsides? No swings, etc., for children but there is plenty of room for running around with a frisbee or a ball - just watch the slope. There is no lighting at night, so you should leave at dusk. There is ample parking, which is a nice bonus.

    Nice hang out.

On the water with a great view. Several benches, a couple of tables, a bicycle rack, water fountain. It also is a pokemon stop and gym. We didn't catch any fish, but I did catch 11 pokemon. The sun was warm, the wind refreshing, the company pleasant, too bad it was with my fishing buddy and not my wife. Secret to a happy marriage: never stop dating each other. Keep the love fresh. The view from here on the sloping grass to the river was made for a blanket and romance.

The park drastically slopes DOWN in a gentle hill from the entrance.

Some people love nothing more than lounging in a chair reading by the soothing ocean. However, one can do the same thing by the river and not come back with a car full of sand (as well as sand in one's unmentionables!) Our river view of choice is Stockton Park. When I first gazed upon Stockton Park I thought I was entering Lothlorien after seeing the wrought iron arch way with gold and black leaves intertwined in an Elvish fashion framing the title of the park. The park drastically slopes DOWN in a gentle hill from the entrance and it's a nice change of scenery from the usual flatness of Florida. Park benches and picnic tables are scattered on the lush lawn and give a birds eyes view of the fisherman by the river. The reason why this is our favorite park is the total absence of SOUND! One doesn't even notice the ambient traffic noise surrounding you until it suddenly vanishes! The most noise you'll hear is the overweight squirrels fighting over scraps. And while the park possesses no mesmerizing rolling ocean, the light lapping of the river and the general absence of rowdiness unlooses the corset strings of stress.Come unwind with a book, a glass of Pimm's Cup, and leave your worries behind.

I've been coming to this park since I was old enough to drive. Back when I was a teenager, it was basically just an open area with some paved parking. You could walk down the sloped bank and fall in the river if you weren't careful. Today, we enjoy many amenities including benches, picnic tables, water fountains, a safe fence along the river as well as the center piece gazebo, perfect for photos. No fault of the location or views, I left the perfect 5 stars off because of the garbage people left that I picked up to dispose of properly on the way out..

This is a nice park right on the water in the Old Ortega area. It's quite and has a lot of tall trees - so there is shade but not a lot of bugs. There are a few swings as well as water fountains (with a dog bowl built in!). No bathrooms that I could find. A nice little pathway that needs a bit of work due to some big cracks from settling. A great backdrop for weddings with a nice covered stage area and surrounding stone seating. Leashed pets allowed. :). A new favorite place of ours!

Just recently discovered the beautiful parks of Ortega on the river. Since moving to Riverside I've been exploring. The beach was my happy place when I lived close by but too many ppl can ruin the experience. This small park is nestled right on the river, quiet, clean and tranquil.

Today we decided to take the long way home and ran across this park I had seen for years but never been to. How beautiful. Stockton Park overlooks the river, has big trees throughout and scattered benches and picnic table. On one side are also a few swings. As you approach the river there is a somewhat steep slope downward and a beautiful view. If you are looking for a nice place to relax or let the kids run around, this is a beautiful option in the historic Ortega neighborhood.

Nice little playground for the kids as a break from stores. They have chairs, benches and some…read moreshade. Great idea for a shopping center. Wish they had a lemonade stand though... that would make it perfect and I think they would sell a lot!

The St. John's Town Center is such a huge boon for the city. It boasts a mixture of standard mall…read moreshops, various eateries, and a sprinkle of high end retail establishments that keeps young and old adults of the city coming back for more. But while we were busy cruising up and down town center boulevard, we found that our kids would be tremendously bored. Up until late last year the only form of entertainment we could provide them during a long day of shopping at the town center was the mall choo-choo train that costs us almost an Andrew Jackson for a 3 minute simulation of weaving between traffic for our 2 kids. Sure we could bring them to the beautiful pond at the center of the mall in front of the Italian restaurant, but with the lack of railings if we don't keep a close eye on them, they could literally be swimming with the fishes (or turtles or ducks)! Thank goodness for the Wolfson's Play Shore for providing our kids a break from all the commercialism. The name itself is reminiscent of the wonderful beaches that attract people to Jacksonville and the colorful sea life play structures continue with this aquatic theme. In regards to safety they've got you covered from top to bottom. The area is shaded and the flooring is made up of that finely ground tire rubber that makes you feel like you're wearing moon shoes. There is ample seating all around the area along with anti bacterial soap dispensers. Once the kids are all pooped out, it's back to the endless grind of spending our hard earned money. I'm glad a play area is finally here. If a free pitstop to unload your kids energy isn't your cup of tea, there's always the choo-choo.
