Typically I'm not a fan of Indian food, but I am glad I tried Pondichery.
The staff: not like your typical European restaurant. The guys that work here are genuinely nice people and check in on you. They have free water, which was also nice.
The food: you have the option of getting their warmed up food up front, or you can go sit and order from a menu. We ended up doing both- getting some chicken tikka masala and butter chicken, along with Indian fried eggplants, peppers, and lentil.
The chicken dishes came with potatoes, green beans, and lentils + Rice. You could feel the French twist in the food, as the spices and seasoning wasn't as heavy as traditional food- which is great. The chicken mixed well with the lighter amounts of spices, leading to a lighter base rather than one that's traditionally greasy, smelly, and leaving an oily taste in your mouth.
The fried goodies were hit or miss- some of them were good, but others had way too much breading. They come with three different types of sauces ranging from sweet to hot.
In all, I would recommend Pondichery, but it is in the sketchier part of the area so be weary. read more
