Mountain Hardware provides daily updates and photos via their Facebook page titled "Wrightwood Snowplay." Complete with pictures, road closure updates, recommendations, chain requirements, etc etc. I was in love with them before we even hit the road. As I pulled up to the Hardware store, you could see the buzz of snow searchers like myself around the store. I didn't really go to the store needing hardware supplies, I was scouting for a few snow items and boy did they deliver. Everything was so thoughtfully displayed making my life so freaking easy. Gloves? Got 'em, they have clearly marked boxes along the wall. Next up snow pants, snow bibs, boots, hats, beanies, sleds, legit everything! They even had snow jackets! The space was small but boy did they utilize every inch of it! Normally I would think that they would be annoyed by us, but everyone was so kind! Then there had been one on top of a defunct restaurant in Vidal Junction, CA for a long time, but it was gone by the time we drove over there. Searching for "giant chickens" on the Internet, I mostly found images with no locations but finally under "giant fiberglass chickens" I found Main Street Collectors in Hesperia. Since we were en route from Joshua Tree to Los Angeles, it seemed might handy. Although we found the first Yelp review disconcerting, we decided to trek over there. The two fellows we found working there were polite and friendly and very knowledgeable about the manufacture and customization of fiberglass statues. They had even created the chickens displayed in Acton and Vidal Junction. They also had a nice selection of reasonably priced antiques so my sister bought a nice little poster with a red rooster on it, to tide her over till she can afford to invest in her very own giant chicken.
