The woman who took my order was far from friendly or professional. She was downright rude after I paid for the order. 1/2 down payment on 7 trees not in stock. The receipt does not reflect the size I ordered as far as height which is of great importance to this project. She refused to give me an expected time of arrival...just said order was being held for me. Mumbled and yelled..clearly something is troubling her. I was very disappointed in her lack of giving a darn! Mike... Your place of business is much better than that. Was told all trees were suitable to high desert soil and climate. Bought two cherry trees, one pear, one fig, one pomegranate, one mulberry (non fruit bearing). Bought grow mulch and followed all planting and watering instructions. Cherries and pear were all dead in 2 months, fig and pomegranate have 3-4 leaves remaining. Only non-fruit mulberry remains as moderately healthy. When I called I was told I should have been watering differently than originally told and basically I was out of luck. Spent several hundred dollars not including augar rental and some labor hands to help due to hard high desert soil. These trees were bought in May of this year. Found out home depot stands behind their plants and accepts returns for quite some time. Note: person helping us was very nice so no complaints about in person customer service. read more

I cant say enough For Oak Hills Nursery. We discovered Oak Hills nursery purely by coincidence. This place is awesome.It's 5 full acres of the widest assortment/selection of citrus,deciduous, shade trees ,evergreens, pines you name it.All this in a small based business,if you can even call it that. But even more importantly are the people who run it . Their just Pleasant and kind people. Such a pleasure to know and interact with. A real rarity in this otherwise deeply troubled world. First off, my wife and I have spent over a thousand dollars at this nursery. We recently came across a problem with one of our plants as it was suddenly dying. We called the business and we were met with a rude employee who basically told us it was our fault the plant had died. This guy was a total jerk and he eventually handed the phone over to the owner. The owner tried to smooth things over but overall, the customer service was crap. He told us Lowes and Home Depot do not guarantee plants. Well, that same same day we returned a 6 month old plant for another....because they guarantee their plants. We take pride in taking care of our plants and would never never try to scam any business out of money. Yet this business made us feel like we were trying to scam them. Overall, the customer service here sucks and they are rude. I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere as they have proven they don't care about their customers. read more

Jerry was awesome in helping me find Carolina Jasmine plants. When I first called, they didn't think they could help me so I called all nurseries in the High Desert to jo avail. So I planted so.ething else, a temporary fix. Jerry called me yesterday and was able to hook me up with two Jasmine that are the same height as the other four I have. Im so happy. The staff was helpful and friendly, BUT I bought 15 plants at 21.99 a plant. 4 failed to thrive after a few weeks. The other are growing nicely. At time of planting them, it looked like a growth was on them, but I didn't give it much thought. Anyway, they are dying - one is dead and Oak Hills nursery does not guarantee their plants like Home Depot or Lowes. They have the exact same plants, but with a guarantee. Just moved to high desert thought I'd try oak hills nursery for alot of the trees and shrubs for my landscaping. I called and asked the price of some deodor cedar.. I guess I upset him when I referred it to being a pine. Anyways I asked for price and availability on the... he says i have alot of different sizes. So i then ask do u know the price? He then no and wouldnt try to find out...maybe he was the owner?? Not sure of employee not caring that much.. thanks for being u guy. I live in Oak Hills and love this place because they only sell what grows in the High Desert. I learned the hard way that other stores sell things that cannot survive up here. Whenever I stop by, the people who work at Oak Hills Nursery have been friendly, helpful and willing to take the time to answer my questions in detail. I drove up to Apple Valley from Irvine and looked here for a water-wise plant to get as a last minute birthday gift. I was approached immediately by one of the staff who helped suit my needs by pointing me towards plants of interest and describing the growth of each plant, it's watering needs, and other interesting facts of each plant. All staff here seem very knowledgeable. There was also a very very wide selection and affordable prices. I will definitely be back! read more

I actually worked there for 3yrs. I'm split on my feelings about the place. I've seen a lot of good there, but with that said... I've seen my share of bad. The owner is the operator of this small business. He can be very narrow minded on his views. He is a decent human being... I know him to be a good friend in a time of need. I've seen him go out of his way to help others, which is huge in my book. But... He is a lousy boss. He berates his employees to the point of hurt feelings. After witnessing this with other employees, and my own personal experience, I just wish he would be more compassionate with the help. He's not perfect, and he'll sure as hell let you know you're not either! On one particular landscaping job I was on with him, I busted my butt going above and beyond the job trying to impress him, plus I take pride in my work ethic. All he had for me was disparaging remarks! It got so bad that the customer asked my coworker... "Does he always talk to him like that?" My coworker even felt sorry for me, and he didn't have any more respect for the boss than I did! His only saving grace was that he was in his employ for a long time. Otherwise, he'll tell you how rude the boss can be. So in closing, the owner is a hot head that's passionate about his business. He will help you... But only if it helps himself. My advice? Go in, look around, ask more than one employee for advice and make sure the advice matches, compare shop so you don't get robbed, and always leave a place knowing you left it better than when you walked in. read more

After stopping by and putting my name on a list 6 weeks ago, I still had not received a call from the owner to set an appointment to plan landscaping. So, I've called twice more since then, and the owner still has not returned my call. I have a large piece of property and $$ to spend, but I guess they don't need my business. read more

Staff greet me as I walk onto the property and efficiently show me plants that they think would be of interest to me. They good listeners and are very knowledgeable. Selection of plants is wonderful. As a botanist by training, I love going to a place where I can find plants that I don't already know. They are also willing to do the homework needed to help me find sources of plants that I am interested in that is not in their inventory. ............................................................................................................................................ The plants that I purchased from Oak Hills Nursery have a much higher survival rate than plants that I get elsewhere. Part of the survival rate is: 1) the expertise of the management in selecting plants suitable for the area, 2) staff directing me to plants that are a good fit for my location, going conditions and watering schedule, and 3) quality of plants. ................................................. ........................................................................................... Maybe I might pay more per plant, but when you consider that I spent hundreds of dollars on novel plants from the hardware store that died during the first frost or when the Santa Ana winds kicked up, the extra price is well worth it. read more
