From the beginning Angel was helpful and responsive; when he came by for the initial consultation he had a lot of great ideas, and he was able to sketch out a rough plan for the front yard. My yard and driveway were completely torn apart. I was pre-approved for the Turf Replacement Program with less than 6 weeks left to complete the project. Time was running out. From the beginning, 6 months prior, I was having trouble finding a comprehensive contractor that could complete the project within my budget. They did not listen to what I wanted and needed. Quotes were twice my budget, were insensitive to finding ways to minimize cost and included stuff I did not want. Prospective landscapers often did not respond to calls or show up for appointments. I needed to get started, so I decided to hire individual contractors. I got most of the landscaping torn out, the existing driveway and other hardscape removed, then work came to a standstill. Contractors overbooked, started charging more than originally quoted, and refused to work together. In the meantime, my brother had work done in his yard. It looked great and he was very happy. He sent me a phone number. Haven Landscaping came to my rescue. To many I looked like an opportunity for gouging and skimping on quality. This was not the case with Haven Landscaping. Angel, the owner, responded quickly to my call. From our first meeting, he worked with me to figure out creative and cost-effective solutions that met my needs and was something I liked. Angel was willing to work with my concrete contractor and he was very careful to respect the work agreement I had with the concrete contractor. In the end, due to my timeline, I did have an amicable dissolution with the initial concrete contractor and had Haven pour the concrete. I could not be happier with my new front yard. It looks wonderful, and best of all, when it rains there will be no more sandbags and digging to divert water away from the house! Several changes had to be made while the work was progressing. I was having daymares about the effects on the budget. I knew Angel was sensitive to this, but with the changes happening so quickly, it was impossible to keep accurate and up-to-date. When I got the final bill, it was under budget! I can't believe this happens often, but it happened to me. Angel could have charged a higher price that was still within his original quote and I would not have known. Yet, he did not. I am so grateful for my experience with Haven Landscaping. I will never use a different company and I am pretty sure my brother feels the same. Haven gave me not only what I needed, but what I dreamed of and thought I couldn't have. WOULD NOT recommend to anyone. Where do I start 1st- everything that was agreed to was not completed, things that were to be hauled away, were not, when asked they be hauled away, he said that was extra. Sadly i had to dispose of everything, which took weeks of filling my trash cans. 2nd- they used my neighbors trash cans and recycle bins to dispose of trash, sadly i had to clean the neighbors recycle bin, because the trash company would not take what was in it, it wasn't recyclable. destroyed plants, would not replace them, cracks in concrete curbing, basically got a shoulder shrug and an excuse. Timer for sprinklers were was to be included, not surprisingly I had that additional cost at the end. Sprinklers were to be 5 sprinkler heads per valve , they had 8 and 6 per valve so got reduced water pressure and I didn't get proper coverage when asked him to fix, because the sprinklers were not properly covering and grass in middle of back yard was dying. In Angels infinite wisdom, he removed 10 sprinklers total ( 8 in the middle) and added only three sprinklers. The middle of the backyard( 1/3 of yard) is dying. In a comical way Angel says it needs more water, i said i agree, so why when there was a problem, with the water in the middle, would you remove all the middle sprinklers. He has no answer, i said, you were also going to put 5 heads per valve as agreed upon, he said, oh with the price of pvc prices going up in California by 60%, That would have been another $ 3000.00 blah, blah, I said so adding 1 more valve and less then 100 foot of piping on an area already trenched for sprinklers would have added $ 3000.00. As of yesterday he has refused to fix the problem. I asked that his crew just mark where the sprinklers were and i would have professionals come out to fix it, he is ignoring my calls and texts. so between front and back yard sprinklers $ 5000.00 i have to hand water, i do lots of traveling and am single, so not sure how that will be possible when it came time for the $ 2400.00 brass LED light system to be installed, he said, ooops I didn't order them and, it would take 2-3 months. So i had to settle for something cheaper, but no reduction in price. additionally, he was going to added Mexican fan palms 8 foot tall that would require a crane to lower them. Because of the height they get and cost to trim annually once they reach 70-100 foot i went with a Mediterranean palm, was only 4 foot, same price, carried by hand still charge for crane No Guarantee's on work, labor, plants, funny part all the local nurseries give guarantees, 2 plants replaced and counting, looks like the 2 destroyed by the workers and their will also need to be replaced. Guess when you spend 31k for a complete overhaul, you don't get everything you paid for, or what was agreed to. I can see how he buys a new 70K truck every 3 years, which he bragged about on a few different occasions, thought that was odd. So now I get to spend money to have someone fix his mistakes. Which of course I guess would have to be settled will be settled in small claim court. Not to mention the cost to Haven Landscaping to have to dig up yard and re-do the sprinkler's at 5 heads per valve as per agreement. A 100 dollar fix, could cost him thousands Anyway, hope this helps anyone looking to have Landscaping Done read more
