I'm guessing that the police had called them to tow my car. My daughter and I were brought straight to the hospital after, and our new dog had taken off (a week later he was found and is home safe now). The next day I spoke with a person who introduced himself as Wayne, who seemed very nice, except was laughing, making jokes, and wouldn't give me a straight answer. I told him that it would take a little while for me to get up there, because I had to wait until my SSDI came in, and needed to get a ride up there, due to the fact that I live 2 1/2 hours away. He told me that it wasn't a problem, just get there as soon as I can, and to bring my title because my car was totaled. Stating that the car was 800ft off the road, and I rolled 3 times. I was finally able to get there a week later, because I was only going to be able to make 1 trip up there, we were waiting for the dog to get caught, and the storm to pass. When I got there "Wayne" told me that they put together a great deal for me, I needed to pay them $250, and sign over the title to the car. Shocked I asked him about my roadside assistance though my insurance, he then told me that they don't accept roadside assistance, and I only have liability insurance. In Maine liability insurance has to cover $500 for towing. He let me clean off my car, and get my belongings out of it. After cleaning the snow off the car I was able to see that it wasn't completely totaled, there was no way I rolled 3 times, and ended up 800 ft off the road. When I finished and went inside I asked him how much it was going to be for me to keep my car. He told me $1450 is what they would normally charge for the complications due to the distance of the vehicle, the positioning of the vehicle, the amount of time he was out there, the fact that he had to reconnect the chain 3 times, how far he had to tow it, and storage fees. I told him that was ridiculous, the car was not that far off the road, I could have only rolled 1 1/2 times, it's not my fault he doesn't know how to attach a chain, and he never said anything about storage fees. He then came down to $500, and when I went to pay him, he tried charging me the fees that they have to pay to use a card, so an additional 3 1/2%. I told him that wasn't my responsibility, he said $500. After paying I made sure to confirm that he wasn't going to try to stop anyone from picking up my car, he said that he wouldn't, and it didn't matter when they came. Once I got the invoice and left I looked at it. On the invoice they were trying to charge me $485 for tow & recovery, $125 for cleanup (there was a dog bed out of the car, and just the rear window broken, that they didn't clean up), $65 for 12 miles, and $765 for less than 8 days in storage fees. Also on the invoice the number attached to "Wayne" says Rick, who is the owner of the company. It has been a week, and I've been trying to get someone to get my car, but I paid everything that I had left for the month (including for Christmas presents) to him already. Now he's texting me saying that if the car stays any longer I'm going to get charged storage fees. Do not hire or trust this company, you will regret it!

Do NOT Trust Bernache Autobody…read more I honestly don't even know where to start with how bad my experience was with Bernache Autobody. It's been almost six months since I took my truck there for repairs after hitting a deer, and I'm still finding issues that they caused. In fact, they've caused more damage to my truck than the deer did! Here's the situation: I hit a deer while driving at 40 mph. The only damage was a dented front bumper and some broken plastic in the grill. I continued driving my truck for weeks after, and then went through my insurance to get it repaired at Bernache. After about three weeks, I finally got my truck back--and it was an absolute disaster. The bumper was crooked, they used zip ties to fasten the wheel wells, the headlight wiring was just hanging underneath the truck, the fog lights were crooked and nonfunctional, and there were missing bolts and nuts throughout the front of the truck. This was not professional work; it looked like a child had put it together. Naturally, I sent the truck back. After another week, I got it back, and the problems only got worse. The headlights were now full of water (they claimed it was because the insurance provided cheap ones) and the daytime running lights were flickering. To top it off, my truck threw an engine code related to the radiator louver--a part they had touched. So, back to the shop it went. ....My truck is relatively new and had been in immaculate condition before the collision. After the third time I got it back, I realized they had replaced several front grill pieces with cheap aftermarket parts, which weren't even damaged in the collision. It felt like they were just trying to cut corners at every turn. Frankly, I feel like they're scamming people. The work they did is subpar at best, and I can't imagine how many other customers have left that shop thinking their vehicles were repaired by professionals, only to find out they were hastily thrown together with zip ties and inferior parts. I would not trust Bernache Autobody with any vehicle. If you care about your car or truck, go somewhere else.
