It had been quite some time since I last visited Lake Jackson. The opportunity presented itself when my friend visited his family in the area over the holidays. We stopped by on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks. We sat at the bar. Ambiance (4.5/5): I love a good tiki bar and Poly Pop definitely fits the bill with its Hawaii vibes. Plus Christmas vibes as they were decorated for the holiday. It's a cool-looking restaurant in downtown Lake Jackson. I love the area surrounding Poly Pop as there are a bunch of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance. Parking is easy too. Service (4/5): Two bartenders served us. They weren't terribly busy and did a pretty good job. They could have been a little more attentive but solid overall. Food (4/5): I went with the elote ramen and a side of macaroni salad. I'll start with the macaroni. A simple yet classic Hawaiian side. If you've never had it, think of it as a creamy, cold salad. Somewhat similar to potato salad. The ramen was definitely a first for me. A combination of elote and ramen?! Say what?! While a little weird, it worked. The elote broth was served with noodles, cheese, corn, and green onions. It was a bit spicier than I expected (which is a con for me) and the noodles weren't great. Still solid overall and A+ for creativity. Drinks (4/5): They had a special holiday-themed menu along with their regular cocktails. This is what you should go with because this is a tiki bar after all. I sampled three cocktails (two off the regular menu and one off of the holiday menu). The honey bear had you guessed it . . . honey and was served in a bear-shaped glass. Plus apple cider. I also did a rum bucket, which is served in, you guessed it, a bucket and is for two or more people. Group drinks are always fun. Lei Low is my favorite tiki bar in Houston. I wouldn't put Poly Pop quite as high in terms of the sophistication of their drinks but I did enjoy what I had here. Poly Pop is a unique spot so definitely check it out if you're going out in downtown Lake Jackson!

This was an all around pleasant surprise. Fun atmosphere and our waitress was well versed in the cocktail menu. Started with apps of tamales and wings. Tamales were everything you'd want... moist and delicious! Wings had crispy skin and glazed perfectly with the raspberry habanero sauce. Magically a happy hour started at 8 on a Tuesday so it was yes to another round of drinks.

The food is great and the drinks were amazing. Our server was very helpful and the ambience is also good. It was very difficult to find a decent place for lunch or dinner near Surfside. We came across poly pop on Yelp and decided to give it a try since they had Ramen and bowl options. Their drink menu is pretty good. And their non alcoholic punch is also good. Don't skip their Hummingbird cake which is to die for! You will thank me later!

Cool ambiance Service was good The rib meat tacos- 4/5 in taste & 3/5 for portion size The smoked rib ramen- 2/5 in taste. I think too much was going on. I see the intention but it was a little complicated in flavors. The riblets- 5/5 i wish the portion was bigger. Really tender and would have them again. Prices- a little pricey. Prices are comparable to Jinya but they have better portions at least. At the end my guest and I left hungry and went somewhere else to eat to get full.

Y'all prepare yourself for overstuffing yourself. I didn't even get a chance to get a picture of the appetizer short ribs because they looked and smelled so delicious we absolutely devoured them. The Ramen and sandwich was also excellent. Outdoor seating was clean and cute. Can't wait to come back for more!

This is the Mexican Brunch Ramen with chorizo, corn, avocado, cilantro, feta cheese, jalapeño & soft boiled egg. Delicious!!!

Its "Dark Tiki" ambience is a chill, weird vibe (in a good way), with intriguing artwork everywhere you look, and the fresh ingredients put the cocktail program up there with Lei Low and Pineapple Parlor. We first had the Saturn (with non-alcoholic gin) and the Puka Punch, and then the Kobra's Fang and the Bay Breeze (made with non-alcholic vodka). Both were just SO delicious! If you're a tikiphile, make this a regular location for your nights out. The only recommendation I could make to management is that our table needed a wipe down (there was a light dusting of something grainy on the surface), and the menus were a bit sticky, but the experience was so wonderful I consider that a small inconvenience and nothing worth missing out on this fun venue for! FYI: The only entrance is now through Betelgeuse Betelgeuse; stop at the hostess stand and ask the lovely employee there to be seated. The doorbell is no longer mounted at the bar's entrance.

We went here for a friend's birthday on a Thursday. We had reservations for a large group but I don't think it's necessary if you are going solo or as a couple. The staff is really nice and the decor is extravagantly kitschy reminding me of the waiting room in the Beetlejuice movie. Which makes sense given the headshrinker in that movie. Being a tiki bar, there's a vast selection of drinks ranging from $18-42 depending on the size. They gave us a complimentary entry drink and I think there was a two drink minimum. I had a Bay Breeze and a Bitter Bird. Tasted the Silver Surfer. All were okay, but I haven't been impressed by too many sweet cocktails.

We actually plan on coming back this weekend, and I'm salivating at the thought of the crispy rice. Don't skip out on this place! It's one of the best speakeasies I've been to.

The Kumquat Tot is hands down my favorite. Kumquat, gin, mint, and a few other choice ingredients make this one of the most unique and refreshing cocktails I've ever had. I'm all about tropical vibes so we made our way over for a nightcap. Located in a shopping center, parking won't be a problem. We were there pretty late on a Thursday night. Ambiance (4/5): Tiki bars are all about ambiance. Hawaii vibes. What's cool about The Great Kanakas Atomic Tiki Bar, outside of their excellent name, is that they're indoors but the bar makes you feel like you're actually outside. I liked the concept. Relaxed with the vibes you would expect at a tiki bar. Service (4.5/5): We sat at the bar and our bartender was attentive and friendly. She even recommended an off-the-menu drink that other folks like which was a nice touch. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet so I'm not even sure if they have food. Drinks (4/5): When you're at a tiki bar, you're looking for a creative mix of flavors with a nice presentation. I went with a cocktail with such a cool name that I couldn't say no. You'll know it when you see the menu. It's a long name, sounds very Hawaiian, and you'll have difficulty pronouncing it. You'll get a kick out of it. While the drink were solid, I've seen more elaborate tiki drinks elsewhere. I'm talking the type where fire is evolved or fancy garnishes. Overall: Clear Lake surprisingly has quite a few cool bars. The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!
