This place is an institution in Ada...you just have to know what you're coming to eat when you come. This is not some truly authentic, Mexican street style, spicy, south of the border Mexican food. It's Tex-Mex, it's a lot more Tex, and it's not a Michelin star restaurant, but for those of us that have grown up and lived in the Ada area all our lives, it's a staple! The atmosphere and setting of the restaurant hasn't changed since I have been alive other than the upstairs no longer being in use, and your servers are almost always going to be friendly and courteous. Polo, his son and sometimes his daughter will be there to greet you, seat you, help take orders if they need and you're never going to break the bank dining in or carrying out. read more

Polos is one of my favorite places to go it has the best fajitas and queso food is great with nice people.

They will get your order wrong and blame you for money. We called and told them it was the wrong order. They said we'll make it right but when I get there they just want to confront you and say you're calling them a liar. So make sure everyone understands the order don't be fooled by the politeness at first. If it's wrong just realized this the kind of establishment you walked into. I ate here dozens of times but the time I had trouble I couldn't believe how they get offensive and wanted to argue over a misunderstanding. read more

We specifically requested hot sauce with our to go order and received none. That happened twice in a row. The to go order before that we received no chips. The beans and rice are not full. The food is not hot. We will not be ordering for awhile. We are disappointed. read more

Coming from Southern Cali, I didn't know what to expect, especially in Ada, Oklahoma. The food was good, and at good value. From the outside of the restaurant it's very deceiving, the restaurant looks very small. Once inside the restaurant has very big, Decorated very festive very fun atmosphere. Once seated, we were served complimentary chips and salsa - no complimentary Queso. My friend Susie ordered the lunch chicken fajita special- very tasty. I ordered that Guadalajara lunch special; One cheese enchilada, one beef tamale, beans and rice. The cheese enchilada very good with mild red sauce, The beef tamale taste and looked like a canned tamale. The beans and rice were average nothing special. Horrible service , had to ask multiple times to get certain things like the spicy hot sauce or even butter. It took us over an hour to get our food, and when I asked for a refill on my sweet tea was given unsweetened tea. I agree with most people that the regular salsa taste like red pasta sauce instead of salsa. On the menu the cheese sauce says served with meat but doesn't come with meat in it. read more

After decades of consistency, Polo's changes their salsa. It was my wife's favorite part of coming here. I never liked it as it reminded me of Ragu Old World style spaghetti sauce. Now? Pace mild, poured straight from the commercial sized plastic bottle. I could possibly forgive the swap but we both ordered Polo's special. A beef taco, tamale and enchilada. Ive had TV dinners with more flavor. The enchilada was a total cheat. They dragged a corn tortilla through warm grease, slid a spoonful of taco filler inside then poured chili on top. It was never baked and the tortilla was the consistency of rubber. Overall, the "home made" tamale was the only thing edible... barely. Im very disappointed and most likely won't return. read more

TL;DR Go to La Fiesta instead! It has a welcoming atmosphere, but the food was just okay. Not bad, but definitely not the best in Ada. Like the rest of the reviews, the salsa tasted like tomato paste. The white queso tasted like melted cheese with I'm guessing tomato bits in it. I ordered the Chicken Monterey. The meat was seasoned well but the mushrooms & bell peppers on the top were not seasoned at all. I will definitely be going to La Fiesta next time I'm in Ada. read more

In all fairness, I've been coming to Polo's since 1978. It was the second Mexican restaurant I knew (after Zamudio's in Ada), though I had eaten a lot of home-cooked Mexican food. First, to one of the points made by the other reviewers, the mild salsa isn't very good. I agree. It tastes pretty much like tomato sauce. The hot salsa is better. But, if you like spicy, ask for the green salsa. You do have to ask for it, but it's world's better. I imagine that the mild salsa is what's popular here, though, so it makes sense for them to serve it. I no longer eat widely from the menu, as I now live in New York City and vist Ada only once or twice a year (though on every trip I eat at Polo's, if they're open while I'm there). So, there could be some dishes that aren't great. I don't know. But I usually have the green chili burrito, which is cubes of pork in a green sauce. Quite spicy, but well-seasoned--it has a lot of flavors, not just hot. I skip the rice and have extra beans, as I like the beans better than the rice. When I go with my parents, we always have queso fundido with chorizo and mushrooms. I haven't had it any better any any restaurant--and I eat in Mexican restaurants all over Texas (and have eaten at many in Arizona, New Mexico, and California). The fajitas here are especially good too. Tortillas are made on site. Often the owners, Hipolito "Polo" and Teresa Vazquez, are in the restaurant. Service is outstanding (of course, most of the waiters are college students, not career servers, but they are well-trained, helpful, and polite.) There are several rooms (in fact you can almost get lost). The main dining room is quite beautiful. read more

I'm so disappointed in Polo's. We used to eat here often but everything has changed. We ate here last week (Feb, 2023) and could not believe how absolutely awful our food was. We asked for fresh tortillas for our appetizer and we got stale, rubbery, bitter-tasting corn tortillas that broke apart when we tried to roll them up. Our entrees were worse, since Polo's used the same awful corn tortillas for my enchiladas. The enchilada wouldn't stay rolled up and broke apart when I tried to cut into it. My husband's meal was essentially inedible also. We tried a few bites and then called it quits. The salsa tasted like ketchup combined with a weak tomato sauce out of a can. I asked for a to-go box, just to be polite (why???). We walked out the door and tossed everything in the trash as we left. I wonder if Polo himself, ever checks the sub-par food that he sends out to his customers. It was a good run while it lasted but I think it's time to take down his shingle and close this business. read more

Good food, they have a buffet in Friday's that I tried and it was pretty good. They had guacamole on the bar which is pretty cool to see. Mainly just fajitas and enchiladas for the buffet entrees but they also had some bbq ribs. read more

BEST Mexican/Tex Mex restaurant ever! I grew up in Ada, OK and this place has been my favorite since day 1. I have yet to find a place as good as this place and I've lived in OKC and Dallas. I can't get enough of the rice. And the fajitas and the way they serve them is just awesome. Will be visiting over Labor Day weekend and I will definitely be stocking up and bringing some of their delicious food back to Dallas with me! Do yourself a favor and try this place out! read more

I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food so I get their American Food options such as the Fried Shrimp and Chicken Tenders. The WORST Mexican food I've ever had. My fajita taco salad had chewy unseasoned beef. I really hope they just grabbed the wrong meat because if they're putting that in fajitas it's a crime. The salsa was more marinara than anything Mexican and the (very expensive!) queso tasted like microwaved canned "cheese product" sauce. My magarita was barely alcoholic, everything was waaaaay overpriced and the staff was unfriendly. They seemed far more interested in packing up the restaurant than serving us even though we left more than 30 minutes before close. You'll find more flavor, customer service and value at a Taco Bell. read more

You have to be a lifer to love the salsa. I know I know, it isn't like the salsa you get at other Mexican Food Restaurants. You have to go to Polos knowing that the salsa is different. If you don't love the salsa, it's okay, you don't have to. I love it, but you can order the queso! We love the white queso! Some folks like to add meat to it, but we tend to go for cheese only. My go-to dish used to be the Jalisco dinner and now my go-to is the chicken quesadillas. The tortillas with butter & honey are a great ending to the meal, but honestly I'm always too full to have them. I don't know what it is, but their Diet Coke is the best Diet soda anywhere. I'm not sure what they do differently, but it's the only place where we order Diet Coke. Crazy, I know. On top of all the great food, the servers always make our dining experience a great one. This is one of our favorite places! It's a must stop if traveling through Ada. I've been going here since I was a child & I can't imagine Ada without it. read more

Please fix the salsa. Usually this place is very good but I have noticed some changes in the last few years such as using canned mushrooms instead of fresh, smaller portions and increased prices. I do not mind the increase if the quality is good but it has deteriorated. On the other hand the service is great and the queso with charizo is exceptional. I recently ate at Polo's and was very underwhelmed. A family member of mine had seen the restaurant featured in a magazine a few years ago with good reviews. Personally, I can't begin to imagine why. I am giving the restaurant one star because of the food quality. As many other reviews have mentioned the salsa leaves a lot to be desired. Personally, I do not like salsa, so I actually didn't mind it too much. While most are relating it to ketchup, my husband and I found it to be more like that of a marinara sauce. I made the mistake of purchasing the Queso Fundito with chicken. While I realize that queso literally means cheese, I expected more than what we were served. The plate was covered with melted Monterey Jack cheese and what I am pretty sure was packaged chicken that was thrown into a microwave for a couple of minutes with the "queso". It was $9 for this appetizer that I could make at home for less than half the price. For my entreé, I ordered the enchilada and taco. It was decent, but I have much better for way less money. As far as ambiance goes, I would give Polo's four stars. There was a nice vibe and it was clean. The only other redeeming quality was the staff, who were very friendly and attentive. read more
