Stop & Shop should actually be called "Spot" & Shop. I mean how on earth did we ever cross "Hairs"…read morewith food and animals? A few years ago there was an explosion of service animals on scene with the introduction of the dog harness and what the owner would show which was an official ID. Nowadays I am sure this doesn't happen and stores like Stop N shop, Home Depot and even Restaurants now embrace the dog at the dinner table. The Hotel bed with embedded animal urine in the mattress seems normal. I watched a lady with her pet dog resting in her shopping cart (picture enclosed) mixed in with fruits and vegetables. Then I watched her put some items back on the shelf. This is discusting!!!, and the store needs to reevaluate the safety of our so-called fresh food around environmental animals as pets. This review is not about hating the personal pet, but the sanctity and safety of our groceries. The store I am sure sets up traps for mice why not a concern over personal pets? *The Review Guru Long Island NY

I live in Amityville 3 months out of the year. I shop at Stop and Shop because it is within walking…read moredistance. NOT because it is a wonderful experience. There are 2 checkout people who are excellent...It might be only one now because Cissi seems to be gone. That leaves only Nuri who makes sure you are getting all the discounts you are entitled to. There is one checkout person who has, on several occasions, rung up an item, and placed it on a small shelf on her side of the checkout belt. Gee I wonder why she does that...NOT. She is also rather nasty. The robot needs to be reprogrammed because it will run into shoppers on occasion--someday a customer is going to trip and fall and good bye robot, or good bye Stop and Shop. Other reviewers have mentioned their signage problem with sale items. I have also found that to be very true.

EXPIRED FOOD, UNSANITARY HANDLING, AND EXTREMELY DISTURBING BEHAVIOR -- DO NOT SHOP HERE I had one…read moreof the most disturbing experiences I've ever had in a food store here. While ordering cold cuts, I asked for a packaged smoked chicken and packaged hot dogs. I briefly stepped away to grab something from the refrigerator. When I turned back around, I saw the employee behind the counter (a man with a large brown spot on his right cheek, possibly the owner) LICK HIS FINGER and start rubbing something off the packaging. Yes -- licking his finger and touching food packaging behind the counter. Alarmed, I immediately asked, "I hope this isn't expired and you're not removing the expiration date." I asked them to hand me the items, and sure enough both the hot dogs and the smoked chicken were EXPIRED. Instead of addressing the issue, the owner (who was standing right there) started arguing with me, claiming he was removing the price, not the expiration date. That explanation made absolutely no sense. Why would someone be scratching labels off packaged food behind the counter with their saliva-covered fingers? The entire situation was unsanitary, deceptive, and deeply concerning. Handling food after licking fingers, attempting to remove labeling from expired products, and then arguing with a customer instead of taking responsibility is beyond unacceptable. I later heard from someone whose husband worked there years ago that meats were sometimes washed with chemicals when they started going bad before being sold. If that is even partially true, it is extremely alarming. Between the expired food, the tampering with labels, and the disgusting hygiene practices, I strongly urge people to stay far away from this place. There are many other delis in the area that actually respect food safety and their customers. I will also be reporting this to the health department because no one should be served food handled like this. PRZETERMINOWANA ŻYWNOŚĆ, BRAK HIGIENY I SKRAJNIE NIEPOKOJĄCE ZACHOWANIE -- NIE RÓBCIE TU ZAKUPÓW Miałam w tym sklepie jedno z najbardziej obrzydliwych i niepokojących doświadczeń, jakie kiedykolwiek spotkały mnie w miejscu sprzedającym jedzenie. Poprosiłam, żeby dali mi te produkty do ręki.
