Half Chicken, lunch special $8.99 plus tax. Delicious!
    Lou C.

Perfectly flame roasted chicken, marinated, tender, full of flavor. I usually order the same half chicken with rice & charro beans. The rice is very good, you can taste the spices. Charro beans are especially good, full of flavor, made with chicharon for enhanced taste. After a few dining experiences, I would definitely recommend for food quality consistency. Service level is usually good as well. The only challenge sometimes is getting an ice tea refill or getting my bill. That's why I order my iced tea in a to go cup, and just request a refill when I walk up to the front counter to pay. Other than that, the restaurant is clean, employees are friendly, food is very good. Eventually I will explore the menu more, but it's hard to resist the delicious chicken!

Just moved to the area and wanted to explore what there is to eat in La Vernia. We were not disappointed here. Everything tasted fresh and the restaurant itself was very spacious and clean. The service was nice too, quick. We enjoyed everything we tried. I especially liked that the melon Agua Fresca had real chunks in it. I'm originally from California and the chicken was on par to what I would expect. We will definitely be back.

The platter. Feeds 3-4 people. Didn't get the ribs so we got extra chicken.

Very good food and service! We will definitely return. The portions are very big. The food was soooooo good. So much flavor. As well as the salsas. Our waitress was very nice. Everything about this restaurant was amazing.

I don't care what Gina says, the food is amazing. Yup, this place sure ain't for tree hugging hippies that eat salads and tofu. It's a man's meal!! So if you have a sensitive stomach or a weak mind, stay home. This food will put meat on your bones and protein in your veins.

    Chicken plate. Delicious

New restaurant in La Vernia, TX. Since they just opened they are short staffed and wait time is long, please have patience. Placed an order to go over the phone and picked up about 40 minutes later. Parking lot was at capacity and people were starting to create their own parking spots. Inside there was a line but after talking with the people in line, it was a mixture of people picking up food, people wanting to get a table, and some trying to pay. It was very chaotic and unorganized Inside. Everyone is working as hard as they can and I appreciate their kindness. I ordered the chicken plate and the super papa. Everything was delicious and still hot by the time I got home. Portions are large so I have leftovers for tomorrow. The Super Papa was supposed to come with Carne asada but only had cheese and bacon. Double check your orders. Guacamole is pricey but very good. Love their green sauce and grilled onions. Will definitely be ordering more.

One of their Papas, basically a deconstructed baked potato with cheese and carne. Awesome! Ate off this thing for a few days.

That chicken is awesome, such great flavor. Blanco queso and chips are so good, I even toasted the chips the next day and they were still good. Service was kind and the place was clean. I go here to grab a plate every time I go to La Vernia now, which is

Chicken has been great, as well as the service. I do wish their were more side options though (maybe fresh sautéed veggies )

It was made possible by the Second Baptist Church. It was called Abraham Lincoln School. In 1892 the school became part of the Seguin public school system. In 1925 the name was changed to Ball High School after its first principal and one of the founders. The school ceased being segregated in 1966. There is a sports bar here called Seguin Schoolyard (opened in 2024). However, the entire grounds are also known as the Seguin Schoolyard as they are an extension of the bar. This review is for everything because it's a really cool concept. There is a huge outdoor area with a stage that is kinda sorta giving Luckenbach vibes. Lots of covered and uncovered seating featuring picnic tables and deck chairs. A great outdoor stage for local and national performers. The outdoor space also has an outdoor bar for concerts. The grounds are lined with several businesses including a bakery, hair salon, art center for kids, cheesesteak shop, the namesake bar, shops, and more. What a great addition to Seguin! Heck, Paul Wall will be performing there in November 2025. The (indoor) bar itself is spacious and comfortable with bar seating as well as living area-style seating. The staff are super fun, friendly, and attentive. Family, kid, & pet-friendly.

There is really only two choices, a mac and cheese place and Mikey's Cheesesteaks which I will review separately. Definitely need more options, not sure if they have food trucks in the summer or not, but need more. Let's skip to the best attribute, the ambiance. Love the old elementary school layout, with the courtyard and various little businesses in the old classrooms. The bar is in what I assume was the old cafeteria, which was roomy with various seating options. There was a couple guitar players playing which was nice, and prices were reasonable. Now the low point. The afternoon bartender couldn't wait to get out of there fast enough. We asked for the game outside on the big TV as there was nobody there but us. She told us to ask the night bartender as she was about to leave (not sure why that was important and she was there another 15 minutes before relief arrived), but we had almost an hour so we got our drinks and sat down. After shift change we ordered round two and asked for the outdoor TV as instructed, but in the meantime someone had asked for the basketball game so we got a TV near us in the bar. Whomever had requested the outdoor TV didn't even make it to halftime of there game, but by then I didn't feel like moving. Great history, great idea, just lacking in execution at this point. I hope things work out.

Their menu is average sized with apps, a senior menu, kids menu, salads, burgers/sandwiches, pastas, entrees and desserts. They also have a happy hour menu with specials ranging from $1 - $9. They even have cocktails with Power Plant themed names. I was in the mood for steak and unfortunately this town seems to be void of steaks for some reason; however, the Power Plant offers one on their menu. I chose a steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. They indicated the steak of the day was a ribeye, but I've never seen a ribeye shaped like this before, it was long and skinny like a skirt steak, or a strip. Ribeye - tender for the most part and tasty. Almost tasted like a flat iron steak, but somehow this was actually a ribeye despite its unusual shape. Long piece of gristle across one entire side and fat cap at the end. This 12oz steak was more like 9 oz after removing all of that. Green beans - basic canned beans with several bacon chunks Mashed potatoes- chunky with brown gravy. The bread that comes with this is basically 2 ends of a griddled hot dog bun. Service was ok as the waitress came around a couple of times to check on me. She forgot to ask me how I wanted the steak cooked, and also came back to tell me she originally gave me the wrong price for it. It ended up being around $25, as opposed to $22 as she originally indicated. I also added a homemade brownie with ice cream to go. This was a pretty average brownie dessert.
