The dance floor is always packed and there's always a dj on the weekends. Hip-hop Tuesdays, Karaoke on Wednesdays, and other fun nights throughout the week. There are two bars, one large bar that seats many, and a second half bar on the pool table side. There's many different seating areas to accommodate your party. It's also light and airy during the day, not dark and drab like other bars, many windows and lots of light, but not too much- so it makes for a relaxing happy hour. The owners are great and a lot of fun! They party along with everyone and make sure everyone is having a good time. And the clientele is .. Always interesting

They said happy hour was going on but drinks were still regular cost and I had no service!! He never offered to make me another drink and there wasn't a huge crowd to keep him busy either. Not impressed at all which is upsetting because I usually like little hole in the wall sports bars. This place is just very dirty and a young untrained staff. Plus it was burning up in there my ice meted my drink rather quickly due to the temperature in the building. Our Monday Night at SoS (another review by an out-of-towner)…read more Following our indulgence at Friday's (see previous review), we headed to Shiner on Sixth for some delicious refreshments, originating from just about half a mile up the road. The bartender was dealing with some business so we took a look around and racked the table (75¢ a game if you can believe it). While we waited we also started talking with some locals. They were all very friendly and let us know the bartender would be back real soon. I'm an outgoing guy, so I took the opportunity to ask a ton of questions. Shiner is such an interesting place - like what I think Austin was in the actual heyday of the 60s and 70s. Genuinely weird, but in a good way, not the disingenuously exclusive conformity that parades as bizarre, and is so prevalent these days. Wandering around Shiner is surreal. It's like being in a living, breathing work of art. Some might think that, in a small Texas town like Shiner, artistry wouldn't be so prevalent. These people have never been to the hill country towns of Texas. The locals we spoke to were proud to hear our appraisals and praise. After some chitchat, the bartender arrived. We asked the bartender, Stacy, if we could bring in our gizzards from Friday's - which she readily allowed. Since there were so many gizzards provided in the order, I was able to offer some to everyone. Those that accepted did so gratefully, and immediately identified them as being from Fridays because they were of such high quality (check out my Friday's review for more info). Back to SoS: The two pool tables were very smooth with good felt. One was already open so my wife and I hit that one. We were able to easily converse together with the music being audible, but not overwhelmingly so. Speaking of music, I never heard it stop. The house sticks, of which there were many and varying in weight, were moderate - used but still playable and rolled pretty evenly on the table. Next time we might bring our McDermotts. I've definitely seen worse sticks. These were of a little less quality than you'd find at a dedicated pool hall. The beverages were delectable, with a good selection of local varieties and some more typical brands if you're wanting something more familiar. On the Monday night we were there, pours were $3.50. A helluva deal, if you ask me. I recommend a local pour because, as the adjusted saying goes: When in Shiner, do as the (Shiners? Shinerinians? Shinerites?) do. I'm gonna call em Shiners. So do as the Shiners do. On the topic of locals, Shiners were wildly accepting and even grateful for our presence. A few stand out points: The cultural representation was diverse. I like to believe it's because this place is such a great place to be. Everyone received us well and accepted us to their pool tables as we wandered back and forth. This place was so welcoming that we felt no such apprehension. Everyone more than ready to cheer us on when we did well and rub us when we placed a poor shot. Nobody was overly loud or raucous. Sure, conversations were lively but not overtly so. Some folks were a bit more reserved, but not unfriendly. The atmosphere: I'll let the pictures (mostly) speak for themselves. I like to take PoV pictures to give an idea of what a patron can expect to experience. These are mixed with some shots of some of the eye-pleasingly unique stuff you'll come across if you visit. I'm a guy, so there's no shots of the ladies' room. However, when I asked my wife if their restrooms were clean, she responded "Very." One sign in particular cracked me up. Someone used a bit of graffito to draw in a face mask, but (I believe) intentionally drew them wearing it wrong. Hilarious bit of easy social commentary! Another bit that struck me as amusing was a scratched up comedic sign about those having "short bats" standing closer. Did the vandal use their short bat to scratch it up? ;P There's an enclosed double decker porch outside, ensconced in tavern-type artistry. Be warned: there is some loud game people play out there, akin to cornhole, but with large flat washers. You can't hear it inside, but you can't miss it outside. The Upshot: If you're in the mood for some nighttime beverages (adult or otherwise) this is likely your best bet in Shiner. Evidently there's a more club type spot, but it's only open a three nights a week (as of March 2024). All that said, if you're the discerning snooty type that doesn't like dive bars then you probably won't be happy here. If you're into kitschy, country, hippy, friendly places with good prices, you'll fit right in. Pro tip: Bring some chicken gizzards and a jovial attitude. You'll be welcomed with open arms.

It was made possible by the Second Baptist Church. It was called Abraham Lincoln School. In 1892 the school became part of the Seguin public school system. In 1925 the name was changed to Ball High School after its first principal and one of the founders. The school ceased being segregated in 1966. There is a sports bar here called Seguin Schoolyard (opened in 2024). However, the entire grounds are also known as the Seguin Schoolyard as they are an extension of the bar. This review is for everything because it's a really cool concept. There is a huge outdoor area with a stage that is kinda sorta giving Luckenbach vibes. Lots of covered and uncovered seating featuring picnic tables and deck chairs. A great outdoor stage for local and national performers. The outdoor space also has an outdoor bar for concerts. The grounds are lined with several businesses including a bakery, hair salon, art center for kids, cheesesteak shop, the namesake bar, shops, and more. What a great addition to Seguin! Heck, Paul Wall will be performing there in November 2025. The (indoor) bar itself is spacious and comfortable with bar seating as well as living area-style seating. The staff are super fun, friendly, and attentive. Family, kid, & pet-friendly.

There is really only two choices, a mac and cheese place and Mikey's Cheesesteaks which I will review separately. Definitely need more options, not sure if they have food trucks in the summer or not, but need more. Let's skip to the best attribute, the ambiance. Love the old elementary school layout, with the courtyard and various little businesses in the old classrooms. The bar is in what I assume was the old cafeteria, which was roomy with various seating options. There was a couple guitar players playing which was nice, and prices were reasonable. Now the low point. The afternoon bartender couldn't wait to get out of there fast enough. We asked for the game outside on the big TV as there was nobody there but us. She told us to ask the night bartender as she was about to leave (not sure why that was important and she was there another 15 minutes before relief arrived), but we had almost an hour so we got our drinks and sat down. After shift change we ordered round two and asked for the outdoor TV as instructed, but in the meantime someone had asked for the basketball game so we got a TV near us in the bar. Whomever had requested the outdoor TV didn't even make it to halftime of there game, but by then I didn't feel like moving. Great history, great idea, just lacking in execution at this point. I hope things work out.

We tried a variety of options, and had a good overall time. That said, two things brought the experience down. First, at the wristband pickup, the worker was so rude! A little friendliness goes a long way, especially for returning guests. More significantly: I paid for two Fast Passes expecting priority access to rides and they were completely ignored. Ride operators ignored the fast pass guests. This isn't a small inconvenience; it's paying for a service that simply wasn't delivered. My advice: skip the Fast Pass until the rodeo has the staffing and systems to actually enforce it. It works at Disney and Universal because those parks have dedicated infrastructure for it. Here, it felt like an upsell with no follow-through.

Went with a school trip so I didn't really get to explore but the general admission ticket covers all of the grounds, with the carnival area having a separate wristband for the rides. We saw horses, cows, several educational sessions, the HEB dairy area with information on milk cows, and we really enjoyed the petting farm. All of these activities were free, except at the petting farm you needed to buy food if you wanted to feed the animals ($5 per cup). Petting area was fun for small children, with goats, chickens, a pig, 2 deer. It's a lot of walking so if with small kids, I would bring a stroller, even though some areas might not be very stroller friendly. Throughout the grounds, there were food vendors, drink vendors, and clean restrooms inside the buildings. Parking is $25 for the onsite lot and $10 for the Blue Lot off Gembler Road which was a short shuttle ride. On each way, I didn't have to wait for the shuttle, but not sure if they run that frequently all day. I also went on a Thursday, so on the weekend if you were having to wait 30 mins for the shuttle I could see that it would be worth it for the on site parking, or if you have small kids and don't want to deal with the shuttle! Fun time, would like to go again and if so, I'll try for a weekday again to avoid some crowds.
