We fell in Love with Pollo Tropical years ago, and we've eaten here several times. But what happened to not having your famous Sweat Tea?

So I'll preface this review with the fact that Pollo Tropical is one of my favorite fast food restaurants. Period. Their food is consistently good, and the options are a plenty. So why two stars? This particular establishment is in serious need of leadership. I've had many awful experiences with wait time, wrong orders, missing items, and just plain awful customer service. The teenagers that they hire to serve you are clueless. And management has no control of the store. I often times see what appears to be the manager running around trying to get it all together, but failing miserably. Every time I go there is an issue. I keep coming back because I love the food and the location is close to my residence, but I have to psych myself out everytime I walk in because I know there will be a problem. It shouldn't have to be this way. They just need stronger guidance and provide better customer service. I'll update my review if that ever happens, but I won't hold my breath! read more

I have been there several times and I am convinced the problem stems from management and neglect. On more than one occasion i have seen employees not working when customers are waiting for their orders or wishing to place their order. They drip the hot water from the vegetables onto the sandwiches which makes the bread soggy. On my last experience not only this happened but they left out my waffle fries from my combo. Also I had ordered 2 chicken sausages on buns. they had only 1 hot dog bun and offered to use a hamburger bun for the 2nd. I asked them to cut the sausage in half and prepare it. They served the sausage whole in one box and the bun in a separate box. The manager boasts they make 50000 a month and that they are not really a fast food restaurant. filthy, filthy, filthy !!!! Floors were filthy, sticky, food all over the floor, tables filthy (all of them) , the bar where you get your sauces was filthy and half empty. Had to ask for hot sauce and they had to go in the back to get it. We had to ask to have a table cleaned to be able to sit and eat and the guy kept hollering (loud) several times for the guy to come clean and he didn't come for a bit, so we had to clean our table.... read more

Absolutely delicious chicken..whenever I am in the area I get a half chicken with 2 sides if black beans/yellow rice and yuca. Another side of Plantains and I am stuffed and happy. It is a cross between fast food and home cooking and for the value and taste hard to beat. Will be back again and again read more

This was my first time to Pollo Tropical. I received a coupon in the mail and thought I would check it out. My friend suggested a tropichop, so I ordered a pork tropichop with 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 lettuce. I was glad I got the small it was a perfect size. On top of bowl of rice, lettuce, pork, tomatoes, sauteed onions, corn. The meat was moist and flavorful. They had lots of sauce choices. I chose the guava bbq which was sweet and spicy. Honestly the tropichop didn't need the sauce but it was a nice addition. I received free tostones. They were served very hot. I haven't tried many tostones in my life but these were tasty. I also asked for cilantro lime sauce that I dipped the tostones in, which I definitely suggest. I ordered at the drive thru which was fast. They also have online ordering. I've visited this location several times through the drive thru. Each time, the line was short but moved painfully slow. The prices are decent (for a chicken Caesar wrap combo, which included a regular side of yellow rice with vegetables and a regular drink, cost $6.09 after tax). Portion size is a little hit and miss, while the regular sides are great portions, the wraps are a little on the smaller side. The food taste is hit and miss too. While the wraps are tasty (I have tried the chicken quesadilla, chicken Cesar, and spinach wraps), the yellow rice was bland. I do like that Pollo Tropical's menu is different than most fast food chains (and had some healthier alternatives), but as a whole, it's just OK. read more

I don't know if these reviews ever make it to higher up's for employee recognition but i give Marcel at store 10083 a 5 star "above and beyond" review. With only one other employee, he operated with composure and professionalism. At the busiest location in Pinellas County, Florida that's saying a lot. I typically use DoorDash for all my orders but it was down last night so I decided to swing by the restaurant location to get my food in person. Plus it's easier to get the sauces you want when you're in person. Ordering through the app I rarely get the dipping sauces and if you've ever ate at Pollo you know the sauces are where the magic happens so not getting them sometimes is a heartbreak. Once to the ordering speaker I learn why DoorDash was down, because it's just two of them in there grinding it out trying to keep a 6-8 people thing operating with only 2 people. With all the priorities there wasn't enough time to make the individual dipping sauce cups so they weren't available. Seeing how numbed I was, Marcel went clear around the counter with some scissors it looked like, and as he handed out order through the window said he had in fact put some of the Mango sauce (my favorite) in the bag also. My man! With all the shortages of employees in the work force these days, especially the restaurant business, it says something when an employee treats you like your important and take the time to look out for you. That man deserves a raise. I'm sure his hourly rate doesn't align with the amount of effort and energy he's putting into that job and it should. read more

I just moved to the area in December and Pollo Tropical is one of my favorite spots to grab dinner. Unfortunately I will have to get over that because this location is the worst one I've ever seen. The customer service is horrible. I have given them many chances, about 5, and every single time they get my order completely wrong or they forget items. I once got the new grilled chicken avocado wrap and they put NO CHICKEN in the wrap. Avoid this location if you don't want your dinner ruined. read more

Employees that take your order rude snippy. If im not sure about the meals and food and ask questions they shouldnt act miserable. The guy Im sorry I forgot his name that brings food out to you is super friendly. Food is ok. Ive had the food taste warm, taste cold in middle and cooked never hot and fresh tasting. Plantains no longer a side have to buy extra. The fountain drinks have that typical nasty taste like water or machine is bad. Werd to see employees say theres not enough utensils but they are nice and give you plastic ones. There was not even one good thing I can say about this meal. The 1/4 dark meat chicken was so overcooked it turned to chalk in your mouth when you tried to chew it. The Cuban was dry & had no condiment in it. The rice was also overcooked & dry almost like it had been made days ago & reheated. I saw the grill had dozens of cooked chickens but they were on the side of the grill that wasn't on so they were just getting cold & hard. The pinchos were so hard it make by jaw pop when I tried to bite it. The yucca was hard & tasteless & so we're the French fries. The lettuce in the side salad was wilted. The beans were mushy I've been asking my family to get food from there for years because we'd tried it years ago but this was the worst meal I'm ordered from anywhere. Even the Powerade had no flavor... It was like drinking blue water. Not sure anyone has heard of salt & communication was also difficult no one has thought of a way to get words from one person to another... Especially when the customer repeatedly tells the order taker that they are deaf. I was so sad I had made such a horrific decision & wasted over $30 trying to feed 3 people. Worst meal ever. My wife went to the drive thru, girl sped through the ordering process and could barely be understood. Once order was taken, she repeated it back correctly, but once my wife got home, not only was the order wrong, but one item was missing, which we were charged for. She ordered the 1/4 chicken meal and asked for dark meat, but received white meat that was dried out and hard as a rock. Didn't even bother calling, as we wont be back! Was the second time we had an issue with this location, 2 strikes and we don't need a third. Gave one star only cause we couldn't give zero. read more

Worse experience at Pinellas park store. Went through drive thru. - employee was very rude to start. When I asked for the sauces for my meal she said "Wait". Then proceeded to slam the window shut. Came back and said we're out so I asked for a different she said we out. I asked for 3 different sauces. She said we out. And She would have to make it. She said we out of everything. Somewhat different fast food, with similar fast food service. If you're from the Midwest, it's kind of a tourist experience, and the chicken and rice dishes are "A-OK" just like the three star category of YELP. Bathrooms are kept clean, and the workers are no less jaded than those of other fast food locations. read more

I am a fan of pollo Tropical but this particular place had very bad service.Last week I visited this place they gave me tropi chop with stale lettuce and they're running out of sauces.This is the place which is near my home ,Today again I visited same place for pick up after I got msg that my order is ready . They made me to wait for half and hour . After long wait time they gave me wrong order Again I have to wait for some more time to get my order they even don't bother when I was inquiring about sauces.What is the purpose of online service if they make us to wait for so long.Service was very bad and rude.I had visited many pollo Tropical but never happen this to me. read more

Really good food! Very filling. Easy to find healthy options, as well as comfort foods. The sauces at the sauce bar are so good. Dinged one star because the dining room needed to be cleaned up a bit. I ordered the Tropichop with chicken and yellow rice with vegetables. The rice looked old and had 1 green pea in it. I asked what happened to the vegetables and the clerk told me I had to dig for it, so I did in front of her and found 1 pea. The Manger went and grabbed a spoon of vegetables and angrily placed them in my plate. When I finally bit into my food the vegetables were all frozen. I spoke to the manager whom told me it was my fault because I wanted the vegetables too fast. I thought the rice was supposed to come as pictured, with vegetables; cooked vegetables! The restaurant was extremely dirty, employees rude. I am a huge fan of this restaurant chain but this place is horrible. I don't know how the department of health has not fined them. I really hate to do this but I must say, Pollio Tropical at 3900 Park ave in Pinellas Park has the absolute worst service ever. They must be swimming in Covid aid money as they seem to have no interest in satisfying their customers. First, told we can not order inside as we don't have masks, we go to the drive in, order and wait 10 minutes for our food. Finally, I went in to see what was going on and the masked clerk mumbled that I needed a mask at which point I replied, no I need my order. I had to yell to get someone to find my order and finally bring it out to me, no apology and no effort to make things right. Corporate says it's a franchise store so I have to talk to the franchisee who is never available. I cant leave a survey on the companies advertised site as the link is broken. Ordered catering order a week ago for a meeting to be picked up today 11/23 . Ordered in plenty of time so they would be able to have everything . Got the confirmation and stated to be picked up at restaurant. Went to get order at first manager tried to say there was never a order placed . Then showed the manager the order and confirmation with credit card attached he says oh yeah I personally filled that order it went out for delivery with a third party caterer a hour ago. So he basically admitted lying . We explained it clearly said pick up we literally work in same parking lot and there was no address for a delivery so not sure where the mystery vehicle is with the food . We asked could he call them to figure it out manager shrugs his shoulders and says nothing he can do and he can't call out of his hands . So a $220 order is not important and a meeting with our food and 15 people waiting that live in this community is not important because the guy manager couldn't care less. Horrendous service he should have apologized owned and tried to make it right . Funny the Sonnys across the street fixed the issue for us got us food and now will get a repeat order every week of over 200 dollars . I have eaten at this Pollo Tropical for months. Normally I order a plain Chicken sandwich, mango tea, and Guava bars. You would think that is a VERY simple order to make, but for some reason they only get it right if I tell them 3 times! I used to order the Chicken well done, and they used to give it to me well done. Now when I go to this location I end up with a very, very, Very, small piece of chicken burnt, they are always "out" of mango tea, or they are out of Guava Bars. I was so sick of getting such a little piece of chicken one day that I asked how much it was for a big piece, payed extra, AND STILL ENDED UP WITH A SMALL PIECE!! They told to get a bigger piece was $2.00. What a waste of money! If you go to this location please BEWARE! At the drive through is a girl with blonde hair that normally wears it in a pony-tail. SHE is the one that always opens up my food, takes my chicken that a COOK put on my sandwich, and replaces it with a small piece after spending 2-3 minutes comparing them! I really think if you want to eat some Latin food, you should go look around the area. Now I go to Moe's or The Taco Bus, and I just buy Guava Bars from Publix when they are on sale. *Also, I have tried to talk to a manager about this behavior, but that person is always "Busy" or not there. **All of these times I have come where during a period where they were not busy. This place is a joke. I ordered through the drive thru.. In the middle of giving my order she shouts out my total. I explained I was in the process of ordering. She replied "well then order". She was very rude and nasty and was laughing through the rest of my order. I finally asked for her name and she went silent. She did not come back on the speaker. I drove around to the window and a younger girl was smiling. She told me my total . I ask for the name of the woman that took my order. She replied " she was not allowed" . Behind her stood an Hispanic woman wearing what appeared to be a teal/blue polo. She was laughing and making comments in my view. I asked if the woman behind her was the manager. She said yes. I asked if that was the woman that took my order.. The young girl rolled her eyes, smiled and nodded her head. Being a manager this kind of behavior and service is unexceptable. If the manager treats the guest like crap I can't even imagine how the rest of the crew treats everyone. Don't waste your time.. I've been to this location twice. Each time, it seems the order takers/cashiers hate life, hate you, and want nothing more than to make your visit difficult. As I said, two times I have visited, both times my entire table's orders were wrong - and to clarify, not the actual order, but we receive the wrong food. Here's why this should never happen. I'm not sure how it works at other Pollo Tropicales, but you are given a table order number placard which stands on a pedestal at the table, so that when you sit down - a food runner takes the ticket and matches the number on the order they have, to the order placard sticking up in the air in front of their face. I realize there is an illiteracy issue in the U.S....but when you cant match up numbers - western civilization has decayed past repair. As I sit and look at a steaming pile of something knowing it's not mine, and the grimace on the irritated runners face as to why I am not taking it, I ask her to look at the order number to match it with my table. She looks down, and does that familiar snap of tongue and lips, disgusted at me for not ordering what she was serving. As I sit and remain waiting for my slow, Latin fast food, it finally arrives. Cold, coagulated, contemptible. It can't be this hard to match numbers to customers' orders right...? I mean, the system is in place to retard mistakes and get hot food out to customers. They can't even get that right - and the food is bland, season-less, and dry (meat). Oh well....thankfully there are 12 other restaurants in this parking lot. read more

I have only eaten here once, but across the board the food was dry. Even the dark meat chicken simply lacked moisture. The menu sounds interesting enough but adding salt to provide flavor does not cover up when meat is cooked too long. There are simply too many options for grilled chicken to give this place another chance. read more

Pollo has been a good restaurant 90% of the time. There have been times where the chicken had been dry or burnt, and sometimes the portion sizes aren't worth the value, but if you come in at a good time the staff will pack your container with food. Even though I'm not fond of the small-sized wraps their food is generally good and fairly healthy at a decent price. read more
