The only employee worth keeping is Tyler, everyone else should be fired immediately. I love Polo Tropical, but this one location has the rudest staff, other than Tyler. Came in for lunch, and there was some sort of argument amongst the staff, with one male employee flipping off other staff; and another female on staff who had the worst attitude toward customers. The staff was lazy and busy arguing which each other; while Tyler was the only one working chopping chicken, and asking other staff members to please help customers and take the orders. When we walked up the register, to place our order, the female employee, looked directly at us, rolled her eyes, walked away, and went back to arguing with her coworkers. Great service at the counter. The dining area is kept clean and the staff empied the garbage bins while I was there. The family meal deal is the way to go if you have a few folks to feed. I've never heard of this spot until today when a coworker insisted we hit it up for lunch. Ironically enough, I said to a friend last week that I didn't expect to find a Cuban spot in the Tampa area, but alas here we are. The food itself was par for the course when it comes to fast food, but left a good impression for my first time with Cuban fast food specifically. Man... what a visit. First off, the doors were locked at 2pm. Somehow both entry doors were locked. People were dining inside and even the people behind me were confused as to what the deal was. Finally a customer got up and opened the door. Cameron was taking orders and was just sooooo slooooow. It took 18 minutes to get our food after ordering. They were out of the guava cheesecake as well. The flan was such a small portion, I honestly can't believe they are charging nearly $3. My skewered chicken was cold and when I mentioned it, I was told they could heat it up again... no thanks. I'll just deal with it since we were already waiting. I ordered my food at 7:47 pm with an 8 pm pickup. I arrived at 7:58 and didn't receive my food until 8:10. The whole time I was waiting for my food a short long haired man with a ponytail was prepping my box around 8 pm with a 1/4 chicken with the box open. Well 10 minutes he finally decides to add beans to the order and the beans tray is already full mind you. I go to ask him if he was going to give me the chicken that you had laying out the whole time. Before even acknowledging who I was he proceeds to walk in the back. I remember the days when this restaurant was full of people enjoying Latin style cuisine. I've been there many times with my family over the years. Last night I had an experience that no franchisee or restaurant owner should have to deal with.... Probably one of the worst service experiences that I've had at a restaurant in quite a while. Although the chicken, the rice and beans and the salad that I had were still delicious I believe that this restaurant will soon be closed within the next two years unless drastic changes occur. The restroom was the first indication of its imminent closure. Not only was it dirty... but a large swath of the paint and drywall was torn off the wall (men's restroom). If the restroom is a public indication of the cleanliness of the entire facility... I am assuming that the management pays the same attention to the operation of its kitchen and staff. And this certainly became apparent when I went to order. The lady who waited on me at the counter obviously was not a happy camper and didn't really want to wait on customers. When my food was brought to the counter it was dropped off and the server promptly disappeared. I waited at the counter while two additional servers came to the counter area, but they never engaged me, looked at me or asked if they could help me. I said "excuse me" loud enough for one to hear me... but she never turned her back to see who was talking to her. The expressions of their faces and the way that they all were interacting with each other clearly reflected that they did not wish to be there. I finally said quite loudly, that I'm sure would have been interpreted as being rude.... "excuse me will someone please help me". No smile, or "Excuse me, I'm sorry sir !"... instead I got a surly "what do you want?".... when I asked for a container of salad dressing she promptly walked away and did not return although I saw her return to the kitchen and speak to one of the line cooks in the back. I had to get the attention of another employee.... and at this point I was quite miffed. I gave up on the idea that I would receive any salad dressing.... so instead I asked if I could please get some sauce for my chicken... I was told that they did not have the pineapple rum sauce... then I asked for the Guava BBQ sauce.... that too was not available. I remember the days when the sauce bar was in the seating area and one had to wait in line to get the sauce because of so many people in the restaurant and the place was clean.... I believe that I could manage this restraunt and increase sales by 50% as a minimum within 4 months, all by paying attention to certain details, and by making sure to treat the customer with respect and good service. read more

Was on hold for 25+ minutes....and finally located restaurant on OTHER side of mall! ****Was still on hold when the server was taking our order--- I told the manager my cell was still on hold with his restaurant...he simply shrugged his shoulders--never even offered any apology or condolences!**** And THERE WAS ONLY ONE CUSTOMER IN RESTAURANT who was exasperated and waiting for her order---none in drive drive through! Manager had young man finish taking our orders....and both had to be repeated several times; and they still BOTH had mistakes! We chose to "dine in" so we had to keep running back to counter to correct orders. My friend enjoyed her Tropichop; mine was tasty. ***n fact, this is ONLY reason to deal with such poor service---the taste.*** I gave manager several opportunities to apologize....he failed. For my friend, this was her FIRST TIME at PT....she was very "underwhelmed!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Had I been manager, I would've at the very least, offered coupons, free drinks, or comped our meals! (YOU NEVER GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Then the employee that messed up our orders brought his own lunch (fast food from DIFFERENT restaurant) and sat two tables away, eating and playing video games. The service is great and food is always fresh and ready to go - no waiting for chicken to be prepared (this actually happened twice in one night at the Ulmerton/Largo location) ... I have to agree with some of the other reviewers, they need to staff up and work on their cleanliness appearance. Arrived at 930 p.m. ordered a tropi chop...out of white rice, ok got brown. Only had black beans, ok if that's all you have. No corn, onions. They only had peppers so I said ok trying to work with them. I get up to window and they have no dipping sauce. I still paid for my order and left. I get home they did not add the peppers so absolutely no toppings. The brown rice was hard and crunchy. The meat was missing altogether. Now it's too late to take back after a long day at work...I'm upset anyone could think it's ok to sell a bowl of hard rice and black beans for $7. Also ordered a Cuban sandwich for my Son....he pulled it out of the bag and said "What's this?" The meat was missing. This had to have been done on purpose.
