    Torchy's Tacos

    Torchy's Tacos

I traveled to Austin earlier this year for work and every Austinite I asked for food…read morerecommendations suggested Torchy's Tacos as a city classic. Regretfully, I never made it to a Torchy's while in Texas--but luckily there's this one right in my backyard at home in Ohio. Torchy's is the Austin institution that went mainstream and is slowly spreading around the country. You'll order on a touchscreen kiosk and choose from tons of different taco and bowl combinations--including breakfast all day! Grab your cup and a buzzer and take a seat; servers will bring out your food as it's ready. I was pretty impressed with the selection overall. From beef to carnitas to chicken to eggs, you can get tons of different taco fillings. The drink station alone is impressive--the typical soda machine options plus iced tea, horchata and even cold brew coffee! There's also a bar if you're inclined to something alcoholic. All of the tacos and the hillbilly queso we ordered were delicious. I was actually impressed with the corn tortillas on my tacos--wasn't expecting them to taste so fresh. Tacos are a great size as well. Two is enough for a decent meal, but they don't pack the toppings on. Any taco you order (I would guess) can be picked up in its entirety. You won't be losing toppings at Torchy's! Service was a bit slow the day I came for lunch but nothing crazy (more like a sit down restaurant than the fast casual it's set up as) and the ambiance is nothing amazing. But the food is delicious, price is decent and I would definitely go back for a little taste of Austin.

Tin Man Grill - Pork taco, cilantro lime coleslaw, chipotle mayo, shredded queso cheese

    Anderson Township

Tin Man Grill Review…read more Tacos are among the world's most perfect food. The taco offers a culinary canvas of unlimited possibilities and incredible potential. Tacos, like pizza, can be be good even when they are bad. They can be authentic or creative but they are almost always delicious. Tin Man Grill, a food truck based in Anderson Township, is a revelation. While not authentic, you'll want to head to Tacos Locos in a parking lot in Pleasant Ridge for the best authentic tacos in town, they are unique and delicious. Tin Man Grill is no ordinary food truck. Instead of being housed in something resembling a repurposed UPS truck, Tin Man is operating out of a gorgeous refurbished 1950's era Spartan Manor camper. The shiny metal glistens in the sun, a shiny beacon summoning hungry diners. But this is not just a fancy trailer. As you approach you are tantalized by the unmistakable aroma of smoked meat. It fills the air around the silver trailer upping the anticipation. You see, Tin Man is serving delicious, fresh chicken and pork tacos smoked to perfection in dual Big Green Eggs. The results are stunning as the pulled meats are moist, flavorful, and infused with smoke. The menu is simple, but do not think that will make your decision easy. Grilled Pork Tacos. Pineapple pork tacos. Grilled strawberry chicken taco. Chicken avocado taco. And Sweet. Potato. Taco. Yes, Sweet. Potato. Taco. It's as weird and delicious as it sounds. The smoked meats and tasty potatoes are paired with delicious, fresh, house-made toppings, salsas, veggies, sauces and cheese. Everything on the taco tastes clean, fresh, and serves to add to the flavor of the taco. Despite having strong flavors like pineapple, strawberry, and cilantro the flavor of the smoked meats still stands on its own. It's evident that these recipes were carefully thought out to let every flavor work together and for each one to shine. I did not ask for any substitutions, nor would I recommend any unless of course you do not like a specific ingredient. I cannot stress how fresh and clean everything from Tin Man Grill tastes. It's also worth noting that after eating here I felt great, not like eating a cheap, greasy Taco Bell taco. This is fresh, real food. It's also worth noting that everything is prepared quickly. Often food trucks can take awhile as the foods are freshly prepared, but here the prep was fast and efficient and the result was delicious. Tin Man Grill is doing some interesting, compelling, and delicious things with the taco medium. I'd highly recommend checking them out if you enjoy tacos or just enjoy delicious food made by friendly folks, in a cool camper in a parking lot, office complex or festival near you.

We have been to many Tex Mex places over the years, and Condado is pretty good…read more Their tacos have your choice of different shells. Hard shell, soft, double decker with cheese, chorizo, soft on hard, hard on soft, you name it. What they put in the tacos are also good, from Korean BBQ to shrimp. On this trip, we got a K BBQ bowl and three tacos. Ooey gooey, k BBQ, and shrimp. The service was fast and friendly, though I suppose for lunch there were more Doordashers than there were diners. As a result, the place was pretty empty, but otherwise very airy and comfortable space. Their bathrooms are funny. On the door of men's was painted "No Exit." Anyway, everything was fresh and tasty, with only one minor issue. The white rice in my k BBQ bowl was soggy. I suppose I have a very high bar for rice, given my heritage and all, but it seems like their rice was made with too much water. As a result it was somewhere between thick porridge and rice cake when it should've been fluffy. I also wish they had brown rice instead of white. Better texture that way. And also, they probably should've used long grain instead of medium, as the latter tends to get soggy more easily and don't serve as a bed for a bowl as well. And for a high protein bowl, the amount of white rice was a little too much filler. Perhaps offer an option of rice on the side? Still, the flavor was good. The pineapple and mango salsas were both delicious and fresh. The pulled pork wasn't fatty. We'd go back.
