Looking to try a new place... Led me to Polish Specialties earlier today. I'll admit that at first it was a little intimidating. That's because everyone in front of me was speaking in their native tongue. Even the items on the shelfs in the grocery area weren't in English. No worries it all worked out in the end. Apparently they opened up about 3 years ago. Looks like there is a growing population for this kind of food in the neighborhood. Located in a small strip mall on Richmond Ave tucked back a little off the main road. I had the Taste of Poland. Thinly sliced kielbasa, mustard, kraut with Edam cheese. The staff worker then put it in a presser to heat up. Never had kielbasa served up like that before. It was so good. Sandwich and a drink for lunch costs less than $10.00. Such a deal. Polish comfort food without a doubt. Several smoked meats and homemade pierogis are available. For those with a sweet tooth, the cheese babka looked delicious. All baked goods are made in house. You could just smell the aromas in the air. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

I was shocked to see cakes that looked like wedding cakes!! Definitely on the pricey side, but well worth it. Gianni was our server and he did great for a party of 8. Everyone was pleased with their Harold's New York Deli experience. This was a first time experience for 6 of us, 2 return visitors (they recommended we stop to experience the good food). It was a pleasant atmosphere and restroom gets a 5 star on its own! Very clean and fresh! Harold's New York Deli definitely gets high recommendations to try.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Is it worth seeing once? Also yes. It has that big, theatrical, old-school deli energy where the portions are part of the show. That said, I'm not in the camp that every good restaurant is automatically a five-star spot. When everything is a five, it gets harder to separate the truly elite places, the hometown heroes, and the restaurants worth planning a trip around. Harold's lands for me as a very solid three-point-something, graciously rounded to four because they have a Marine Corps flag hung in reception. The food was good, the portions were whatever you make it, and the whole place has novelty value without feeling like a total gimmick. The sandwiches are large enough to satisfy a hungry, medium-sized guy without completely defeating him. And honestly, on a menu full of meat, my favorite thing may have been the healthy pickled salad/pickle bar situation -- bright, crunchy, and a great counterbalance to the heavier deli classics. My biggest knock was the service atmosphere. There seemed to be an army of staff, but not much interaction beyond their phones. Maybe I caught it at an off time, and maybe the place comes alive when it's packed, but that kept the experience from feeling warmer or more special. Overall: fun stop, good food, convenient location, and worth doing if you're passing through. Memorable four.
