This place is fast becoming my favorite pickup / delivery in the hood. My bf typically orders their delicious Chicken mushroom curry, and I've order mixed vegetable curry and Saag Paneer. Each time I try something new It just keeps getting better. From the 3 times we ordered, it took them no time to prepare and food always arrived hot, well prepared and well flavored. I especially like how they cooked their basmati rice with various spice to enhance the flavor. The delivery always come with a serving of lentil soup and the trio of cilantro chutney / tamarind chutney / marinated onions. I am in love with their paranthas! Something about the flavorful, slightly crispy crust and the generous filling just makes them irresistible. Another dish to try is their chicken malai kebab. A word of warning, if you're an Indian/Indian-food fanatic you may be disappointed (for example their biriyanis are rather bland if you're used to the authentic version). Quality wise the food is just average. And I'd be careful when telling them to make a dish 'spicy'. But really, who cares....service is prompt, the food arrives warm, the quantity is generous and the price is great! Polash is my go-to spot for Indian takeout in SpaHa. The food is great and I'd recommend the Chicken Vindaloo for folks who love spicey/hot food. The naan always arrives fluffy and warm. And let me tell you, the service is fast! I mean, I feel like I hang up the phone and they're already buzzing my door. I don't even mind the idea that they may not be making my food fresh because the food has been consistently good (I've been ordering from Polash a couple of times a month for the last seven months). 3.5 stars - I came down with a bad cold and after searching for 30 minutes for chicken soup delivery, I gave up and ordered here. Based on my order, vegetarian dishes seem to be the way to go. I had no idea what to expect but the vegetable soup was exceptional. A tomato base, but slightly thicker, maybe with dal. It had chunks of well-cooked potatoes, carrots, and green beans with a delightful lemony flavor. So good I wish they had this option in a larger size. The dal they included for free was also very good. So much better than what I try to make at home. The condiments make it extra tasty (the onions and spicy green sauce). Great local place for indian food! I think compared to the places in murray kill their food is comparable for the price. Their rice has a better flavor and texture than Dhaba. The lunch buffet is $7.95 on the weekdays and $8.95 on the weekends. They have an assortment of chicken and beef curry as well as unlimited nan and rice, saag etc. The other entrees range from $9-$12 . Delivery is fast and the order is always correct. Came here with a group of 8. Restaurant is large enough to accommodate large groups. Ambiance and decoration is so so. Service was excellent. Waiters were friendly. We ordered regular nan, goat rogon josh, chicken kadai, lamb curry, chicken curry, somosa, shammi kabab, and other things that I forgot. Reason for the 4 stars was the goat rogon josh. Even though the meat was on a bone, the meat was tender and extremely flavorful. I expect Indian cuisine to have tons of bold flavors and they definitely delivered. Caution, one of us ordered a dish to be very spicy and it was VERY spicy. I eat spicy foods a lot and this was really spicy. The mild and regular/normal spicyness is good enough for majority of the people. The lamb curry was just okay because it was chewy. The shammi kabab was surprisingly very good. It didn't look appetizing but it was delicious. You got the meat flavor and the coriander wasn't overpowering. I don't think they make their own nan, but at least it was hot when it arrived. I have to love Polash, it's a diamond in the rough. Sure, I can admit that this is not even close to the best Indian food I've ever had, in fact, I had better in at food court of an Asian supermarket in Boston. What makes me give Polash a 4-star rating is it's location, and for me, that is enough. Polash is a step up on the quality scale than the rest of the eateries in close proximity, so it's a good place to go to get inexpensive take out that isn't chinese-mexican food. The decor is a little strange, maybe I'll try eating at the buffet sometime, but as for now, I've only gotten takeout. Their paneer vindaloo was good, decent heat. The tandoori veggies were also good, hot, but entirely too oily. It was loaded with onions, which I don't mind, but some of the petals were a little tough. Their batsmati rice is seasoned with cardamom, something I haven't run into before. Naan is naan, chewy and delicious, I don't think I've ever had bad naan. One of their dishes that I didn't enjoy was the vegetable biriyani,but I've never had it before, so there is a good chance that the dish itself is simply underwhelming. Also, their chutneys and sauces leave something to be desired, in my opinion. I've had better elsewhere. I'm very pleased that they include a complimentary small lentil soup with your order. Went for dinner with my wife and daughter and enjoyed our meal, thoroughly. When we got there a gentleman was just finishing his meal and then we were the only people in the restaurant, which was strange, but the phone didn't stop ringing so it appeared to us that most of their customers are delivery orders... which I have read from reviews before going, a lot of people order by phone. To the meal: The Mulligatawny soup was superb, Tomato/Lemony - very tasty, I loved it! We also had the veggie samosa's (great) & chicken liver as an app, which was pretty good - it came with delicious poori and I added some condiments; Tomato & Lime Chutney - a perfect compliment (which I almost finished on the papdam that greeted us at our table) . For our entree's we had Chicken Tikka Masala, it was pretty good... the sauce tasted a bit like tomato sauce, but it wasn't that bad....not the worst, not the best. We also ordered the Lamb Roganjosh - this was incredible! Very tender lamb, juicy and such a delicious sauce. We ordered Garlic Naan with dinner and it also was delicious. My boyfriend and I regularly eat here not just because the food is cheap and filling but sooo good too! We especially prefer going during lunch from 12-4 because for about $10, you can eat from the all you can eat buffet. It includes salad, indian appetizers, naan, jasmine rice, tandoori chicken, and curry veggies, beef, or goat. Everything is always hot, and you can tell that the meat used is fresh and not frozen for ages. Last week, we decided to try a real dinner instead of the buffet. My usually adventurous boyfriend went with curry goat, (spicy) and I chose a tandoori mix, (medium hot). My dish came on a sizzling plate with a mix of marinated cubes of chicken and steak, kebabs, and tandoori chicken. Both dishes came with rice and a chickpea sauce, and we ordered naan on the side. The total cost? About $40, not bad at all considering the amount of food and quality. Each time we're there, we see many people picking up orders so we realized "to go" seems to be the norm there. Look, ordering dinner in East Harlem can be frustrating. We were in the mood for burritos and a nice salad so Taco Mix was out of the question (no greens to be seen). After calling Agua Fresca and receiving no answer (for the second time, and last time, in as many months) we called Ceviche, only to find that they, also, weren't answering the phone. Polash may not be the best Indian food you'll ever have, but it is well made, solidly flavored and arrives hot. Most importantly, they are always there and always answer the phone. I guess my standards have dropped considerably when "answers the phone" becomes high praise for my local delivery joint but that's East Harlem for you. Orbit is gone and was never any good anyway, Camaradas won't deliver, Aurum might be closed and is way overpriced for the level of quality. I've been eating here for at least 10 years and the food is really great in my opinion. You're not going to find another place like this which serve authentic Indian dishes at reasonable prices within the Harlem area. But every time I go there, the restaurant is empty! They rely alot on take out orders and pickups. No matter, the staff and service is always great every time we come. The food portions are plentiful and the dinner specials are a great deal that comes with an appetizer, soup, entree and dessert. They also have a lunch buffet daily special for under $10 which includes Tandoori Chicken! We have been getting delivery from this place for a long time now... a couple of years, maybe? They have an extensive menu and everything we order has been delicious and the service is always prompt. We usually spend about $30 and get enough food for two meals. We like it so much that we've avoided going to the spot in person for fear of finding out it's some gross place that we wouldn't want to eat from. But we finally went up there to try their buffet lunch a couple of times and yay! it's fine in person. Nothing special, but totally fine. The buffet is $7.95 weekdays, $8.95 weekends. They do chutneys/condiments, assorted fried appetizers, rice, naan, tandoori chicken, and then two other meat dishes and two vegetable dishes. The buffet food is not as good as their takeout, but it's still good. The vegetarian dishes are ok, but the meat dishes are usually better and of course if you eat meat you get a larger selection; if I were veggie I wouldn't bother with the buffet, actually. Staff is super friendly and always on point with the water refills/plate removals. The manager recognized our address when we chatted with him, which was nice. One drawback to the buffet is there is no dessert. (or maybe we just show up too late in the day?) Come on, guys! Put out a little kheer, at least! We ordered: naan, meat somosa (come with 2) chicken vindaloo, and a lamb chana. Everything was super yummy - usually naan needs to be right out of the oven to be amazing but somehow they managed to keep it fluffy, warm, and delicious through the delivery time. The meat somosa was off the hook and a nice portion. The main entrees were both flavorful and a generous portion (we had enough for a whole lunch left-over meal!!). I'm giving only 3 stars because they won't allow me to use my card for less than $10.00 so I end up getting things I don't need. Nonetheless, it's tasty! My regulars are veggie samosas, chicken soup and, now, garlic naan. The samosas are so flaky and light, the soup has good amounts of meat, not just broth, and the bread is nice and warm. The two front of house gentleman are cordial (one more approachable than the other). The nicer of the two gives good suggestions if Indian cuisine is new to you. *yelp says that they're closed for an hour break in the afternoons. Thank goodness for this Indian restaurant being in the neighborhood. I wouldn't know what to do at times of craving Indian food if this place wasn't around. I'm thankful for this. They're very accommodating and their dishes aren't spicy hot. Mostly mild to not spicy at all. I had forgotten to tell them not spicy once before when I ordered for delivery and the food came mild, and not super hot that you cannot enjoy the flavors of the food. It's very affordable compare to the one in Madison and their delivery is prompt. Only a couple of things I would like to add that I wish they would consider to add and subtract. One is brown rice. I certainly hope I'm not the only one who would like to eliminate white rice so please consider having this one on your menu someday, soon. Pretty please? Secondly, the pakoras are so amazing but they're way too sweet! The bananas are already naturally sweet but to add sugar in a batter just makes it over the top. Also consider a different batter than white flour. Other places cook it with chickpea flour. It'll still be super good and healthier. Well except for the deep fried. Do you think baking the pakoras is an option? Hmm. That's all I have to add on this. But overall you have my vote for the most tastiest and inexpensive and gloriously generous portions ever! This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Harlem. Delicious food their lunch specials are perfect! Staff is extremely nice, I ordered their yogurt drink which is impeccable and they forgot it. I called them and they sent one out which I received 15mins later. I live 15mins from the restaurant!!! The lamb curry is soo good. I don't eat meat but when I do I eat lamb and his had been the only place I've been able to order some perfectly cooked lamb from. All their vegetarian dishes are perfect I especially love the chickpea dishes. Sooo good and please try the Lassi when you come here Coconut and today I tried pistachio AMAZING! They make it how you'd like it, so you can let them know if you want it to be spicy or not spicy. I love spice so I got spicy chicken rogon. It was so good!
