I don't know why this place is so low rated. Firstly, they just renovated and the space is much more inviting! (It used to be a baby blue, now it's more earthy). I used to go there, as did my mom, for gel nails and they did a great job. I haven't been back because I moved south. This time, the nail lady actually stood with me to help me pick out a colour- I usually get ditched at the nail polish area but she even helped me choose! I have had my nails done in many places and nothing compares to the level of service and friendly attitude I have always received from everyone at Polar Nails. I used to live downtown Calgary and still drove all the way back to Beacon Hill to get my nails and pedicure done. They are really hard working people and always go the extra mile to accommodate my schedule. "IF" there is ever an issue with one of my nails. I have been to polar nails a few times and the one lady Jessica is amazing! She has been able to do anything I ask her and super polite and sweet. A few weeks ago I brought my family with me for a spa day! There was 5 of us booked for pedi and mani. They only had 3 staff working and one left in the middle of doing my cousin. The lady that did.my nails was so rude! She couldn't do.a simple black ombre and insisted I just pick a color because that's all they had time for! I think the eyebrow lady there should stick to eyebrows not nails cause they started peeling the next day! Although in was told she is the same way with eyebrows rush rush rush. I'm writing this review purely because I felt like my manicure was a waste of money, and it was downright comical. They fit me in right when they opened on a Sunday morning. I was excited, especially when I got there and showed the lady what I wanted. It was an ombré sparkle nail, and I made sure of asking her if she was able to do it, and if not that I had other ideas. She swore up and down she could do what I asked. I picked my two colours, black base and blue sparkle. I sat down and she told me she wouldn't do the black because the blue sparkle wouldn't show up. Since when does sparkles not show up on black ? She talked me into white, like it was in the picture and began her work. Started with a massage then asked me to pay BEFORE she painted my nails because "she doesn't want me to ruin my nails while paying". I said okay, and paid. She was quite nice and gentle, but when a customer came in she left me in the chair and then rushed my manicure to help the other customer. Now this is where I feel cheated. I felt like she made me pay before because she knew she couldn't do what I had asked, and rushed me out while my nails were still wet. The end results, after I had been a little chocked, were actually laughable. I won't be returning, there are other places in the NW that will do a better job for less than $30. read more

I stopped into this place a few days ago, I was at Costco which is nearby and needed to repair one of my casualties. Key word here-STOPPED. Hey Polar Nails, 1980 called, it wants the baby blue paint your entire "spa" is painted in back. Dreadful decor, or lack thereof . Very dirty inside, looks like it has never been cleaned. I was very leery of the staff working on my nails, who btw were eating when I came in and were in fact, still chewing while giving me this consultation for a single nail repair. "Spa" had a food odour throughout. Also, didn't like the "cash" tip sign. FYI cash tips are often not claimed as income on taxes, just some food for thought next time you are asked for anything to be paid in cash, especially if it is a privately owned place. I have higher standards. Their prices are not competitive with other nail places and for the service here and what I have seen from two other reviewers, it is no surprise that I give Polar Nails 2 nicely manicured thumbs down, and absolutely no way will you ever come between me and my beautiful money. LADIES!! Do not come here for a pedicure. I had the worst pedi of my life today. Fair warning - I Ieft with my toenails ragged, polish on my skin and 2 toenails bleeding. I've been getting pedicures for years, so it's not like my feet are overly sensitive, but it was clear almost immediately, that I was going to be disappointed. There are 3 chairs in the back, and 2 signs in front of the chairs saying "Cash tips appreciated by management". What?? I always tip, and did so today although I regretted it after I got home and took a look at my feet. But to ask for tips up front? That's a little rude. I have been getting biogel manicures for over a year now and this is by far the best place to get one. I have my fav technician and regularly make an appointment with her. My nails last at least 4 weeks between fills and never lift or break, even though Jen does them nice and thin as I like. This is one of the few places that sanitizes the instruments between customers and actually are personable while doing your nails. It has taken a few years to get to where they are at now but I am very pleased every time I get anything done here! read more

I don't know if it's the owner but she is extremely rude and lied over the phone about how much a service would cost to get me to come in. After I walked in and asked the ladies what I wanted infront of other customers and to confirm the price, she told me a higher price and said I "misunderstood". I called in before and asked for shellac removal for both hands and feet and they said $20 ($10 each). She went on to offer me a $45 mani and pedi and I asked if shellac removal would be included and she said YES. I finally get there and she said it was extra for shellac removal... I tried reminding her of what she offered over the phone but she made me look stupid infront of other customers. Went to get solar nails removed, will never go there again!! I had lovely long natural nails under my solars, and have had sets removed before with no issues or weakening of my nails (nails soaked then the solar gel wiped and buffed off). First thing the lady did was cut all my nails off down to the pink part and pry off the solars with a metal tool!! No soaking or anything, my fingers hurt so much by the time she was done and now my nails are so weak they split if you so much as touch them. I was the only customer they had, but she sure didn't take any time to make me feel like a welcome customer either, and she seemed to be in quite a rush to get me out of there. This is the first and last time I go to this nail salon, I could have done a better job at home with less pain. read more

The ladies who work here are not honest. The first time I went, I was told that acrylic nail tips (white tips) were a certain price so I booked an appointment and asked for that when I came in. When the lady charged me, she charged me $5 more and said its because she put a gel topcoat which makes it shinier. I told them they shouldn't add things that people don't know then charge them (they should have asked me first as I didn't know what they were doing and no one asked me if I wanted gel topcoat for an extra cost). I was irritated and paid reluctantly. The next time I went in, I asked for acrylic fills and they once again quoted a certain price and this time the lady said that if I wanted gel topcoat it is an additional $5. Great. So they let me choose my colour and I get my nails done and when I go to pay, the charge is $15 more than what they told me! I couldn't believe it! I told them that they did this last time too and asked to break down the price and they said its because I put shellac on top! Once again these people didn't tell me I am picking shellac and it is an extra charge - in fact this is the only option they gave me to select a colour! They do this on purpose! Another thing to mention is that I had made an appointment BOTH times and BOTh times when I went in, no one greeted me and I waited in order of when I came in until someone was ready to take me in. What's the point of an appointment then? These women are rude and CHEATERS. I will never go again and advise against anyone else going in to get cheated as well. read more

I went in for a brazilian wax and Katie was great. She was fast, thorough and went over with tweezers at the end for hairs that were missed. I have had a lot of brazilians before and she made the experience as painless as possible. I will definitely be going again. They welcome walk-ins but appointments are recommended. WORST MANICURE PEDICURE EVER!!!!! My sister lives in the area, and thought a nice day would be to go get a manicure and pedi together.... I even took my 9 year old neice with us.... Get there, they are all sitting around NOT busy, and shove us all to pick a colour, we sit, my pedicure took literally 15 min IF THAT... and while my pedi was being done I had another person doing my Mani.... I was done and had my nails painted in less than 35 min for BOTH... The nail polish on my nails has already started to chip off, and that is less than 24hours ago... I do a better job myself! So I called this disappointment of a place.... and the first time I called she hung up the phone on me... Than when I call back she says what do you want.... So I said before you hang up the phone on me again, Im calling to let you know that I was there yesterday... blah blah I told her that my nails were all chipping, and she says to me oh thats normal for hands, i said in LESS than 24 hours??? REALLY? That she proceeds to tell me I did not wait long enough for them to dry and that its my fault. The most they will do is re-paint them for me, so I would have to drive all the way up there...( I live in the deep south, my sister lives in the NW) I said to her, its an inexcusable way to run a business and that she was rude, and told her I will never go back there again, and if I know anyone else that says they are going there I will also make sure they never go there as well. I got a pedicure and the whole experience was rushed. They cut my toe nails in a rounded shape. Which will cause ingrowns. They didn't scrape the bottom of my feet. There was no massage and there selection of polish was all similar. I don't think I'll go back. read more

This is a terrible salon. I had a manicure done there and it was the worst ever. I had what was supposed to be a french manicure. The girl did not use a base coat, she had white nail polish on my fingers. After she painted the tips she had me sit under the dryer, about 10 min. later she came back and put a top coat on them. I had a really good experience here. Its cheap they do a great job and they accept walk-ins. I've been 2-3 times now and never have I had a bad experience. If you are looking for a high end spa experience, I could see this place not meeting your expectations, but if you tend to have your nails done on a regular basis, this is a great place to go. Yes I agree with the other comment that the estheticians tend to not do a lot of talking, but its because some some of them don't speak a lot of English. The prices for a nail fill conveniently change EVERY time I went there, I asked for Shilac (sp?) and they put gel AND THEN shilac on my nails and charged me for BOTH a 55.00 fill - who does this??! Then they had the nerve to tell ME I didnt understand English LOL what a joke - NONE OF THEM understands English. The guy that runs the place it a jerk - the customer is NEVER right he'll argue with you about everything and then MAKE you leave a tip - he's very rude and I feel sorry for the girls that work there. I went a few months ago for a pedicure, and it was ok, so I went back for a french manicure today. They did a horrible job; only 1 coat of polish, bubbles everywhere, crooked edges, and she put the top coat on while there was still remover on my nail so 1 tip is completely messed up. Since shellac has been made popular, it's the only service I get with manicure. I tried out polar nails since I work nearby and was mortified. Most places will soak your nails and wrap in foil to remove any existing shellac and scrap it off. The girl who was doing my nails stated dremmeling my nail so thin... Not only was the polish off but my nail was thin and in pain. My nails are still sore and it's been over a month. read more

Don't bother making an appointment here as they take walk ins 5 minutes before you're booked appointment and then make you wait an hour while you "pick your colour!" Also their hygiene has much to be desired. The aesthetician wiped the bum sweat from the previous client off the chair then used the same towel for my pedicure. They clean the foot bowls with a stinky old toilet brush. One of the employees kept yelling at people who were waiting for their appointment to sit down even though there was nowhere to sit. The girls all talk loud to each other in their language and it seems like they're all complaining. Go to a better salon that honours booked appointments instead of jamming people in and making them wait. They charge just as much as the nicer spas in the area. Try "Mint" as they will actually tell you if they're booked up. read more

Will never attempt to go to this place again!! Was going to try out a New Nail place...so I called and made an appt. for 3pm. I got to the place at 3:08 and their clock was running fast. I admit I was 8 minutes late but I got a bit lost...anyway...I go in and there are 3 girls working with clients. One on nails and 2 on Pedi's. So I say my name and that I have an appt for 3...she just looks at me says 'ya" and turns away....she's doing a pedi. So I sit down and just look around and another 5 minutes pass. This nail tech finishes her pedi...takes the clients money and then she continues to tidy up her space....walk around and sweep and doesn't say a single word to me? like really? I am thinking like when is she going to start my nail fill? but she doesn't...she stops at the front...drinking her drink...eating and not saying a word? So by now I am sensing that either they didn't actually write my appt in the book and are treating me like a walk in...NOT! I ask her "so do you have my appt down for 3"? She responds that "because I was late" 8minutes folks!! the girl that was supposed to do my nails was now doing a walk-in pedi and I'd have to wait until she's done?? Like What?? Are you F'n kidding me?! Before she takes a walk in how about call me to see if I am still planning to come for my appt?
