Very dissapointing visit.I am not sure why the store looks like is going out of business? The kielbasy and cold cuts are not so fresh and very salty, VERY SALTY!!!! Store is dark and not inviting.The hot food is not sold there anymore. Product just laying in front of the meat counters ,like is getting discarded.Only one person helping customers?Maybe the ownerc know the customers are going to other stores? Place is awesome! You gotta check it out. Prices are super cheap. $10 minimum on a card but they give you a lot of delicious food for that price. Amazing food, service and ambiance. This small shop in Greenpoint is probably the closest you can get to actually going into a shop in Warsaw. As soon as you enter, you are treated to the smells of smoked meats and the sounds of Polish being spoken. Yes, a number of the workers don't speak English, but you can usually communicate what you want, and the cashiers I've encountered can communicate in English. For a small place, the variety of meats and Polish products (soups, candies, pierogi, hams, etc.) is outstanding. I usually pick up a kielbasa and perogi. Likewise, the prices are very good. I always leave surprised that I didn't spend as much as I thought I would. Two things: One, they really have the air-conditioning running there. It's like walking into a freezer. On a hot day, it feels great, but just so you don't be surprised. Two, the place can get very crowded. The people there generally move very fast, but you may have to wait on a line to pick up the various delectable meats. I did have one disappointment during my last visit: They used to have an area where you could pick pickles. I really liked some of the pickles they had. This last time, that area was gone. Maybe now they are behind the counter. I didn't ask or check around (my bad). I was tempted to drop my review to 4 stars, but I still believe that a visit to Polam International is definitely something to be experienced. And I would also recommend walking around the neighborhood. Greenpoint has a vibrant Polish community, with a number of shops, restaurants, and bakeries. Love this place for anything Polish. The smoked ham and the Polish Swiss cheese are the best and inexpensive. The kielbasa is so tasty and they have a variety. We got the spare ribs and are smoking them as I'm writing this. They have a hot table and the stuffed cabbage, soups and offering are delicious and inexpensive. It's a great meat market, but also has polish baked goods and polish specialties. Quite reasonable for your wallet. read more

After reading some reviews, we stopped into Polam yesterday to buy some smoked salmon. All of the reviews are true, no one that works there or shops there speak English--lots of Polish, so therefore lots of pointing. The salmon was great, and I'd definitely like to go back to try their kielbasa and perogies. read more

This meat market makes a huge variety of fresh and smoked meats in Polish and German styles. From smoked mysliwska, wiejska and weselna to whole smoked chickens, salmon, whitefish, hams, and bacons this place has it all. I buy smoked Salmon heads here for cream of salmon soup and Japanese style rice balls, all of the sausages for epic summertime barbeques, cured hams for Christmas gifts, bacon for anything that calls for it, many of the cold cuts and mustards for monster sandwiches, and the homemade pickles. If ever you wondered what headcheese was this is the place to try it, they probably have fifteen varieties. All delicious. Everything here is inexpensive and of the highest quality. My main barrier to entry is that everything is written in Polish and the employees are mainly native Polish speakers. I only know how to say "thank you" and "good morning" in Polish so I do a lot of pointing. Best advice. Buy something you don't recognize each time you go here, then go home and search the web for how to prepare it. Or just get as much double smoked mysliwska as you can carry, a jar of spicy mustard, and turn off the phone. read more

The products in the store are great and prices are fair. However, the owner of the store is a terrible person who treats her employees worse than dogs. Today I was in the store and watched her shout at an employee and her face was twisted into an evil grimace. Another woman in the store was just as horrified as myself and said so to the owner. The owner then informed her "This isn't your business, if you don't like it, you can shop somewhere else." Duly noted. I will not be shopping here anymore. Great polish meat market. Yes it is very cold inside the entire market. The meat is out in the open so they must keep it cold in there. Only thing to be aware of is that they do not speak English and what little they do speak is very limited. If you know what you want then no problem. But if you want someone to explain every thing to you then plan to bring a translator with you or hope that a customer next to you will be willing to help you out with translation. It is very busy so other customers probably don't like when people take too long trying to learn what things are as you would be holding up the line. It would be best to probably just randomly point out things and try them. That's what I did when I was there and so far everything has been great. Besides, it makes for a nice surprise when you get home. read more

As other reviewer mentioned, they don't speak much English, and they assumed I could understand polish (I am 1/2 polish). However, they were very helpful and I was able to pick out some great meats. We found this place on Yelp. My husband was looking for a Polish deli to get a kielbasa loaf that reminded him of his childhood growing up in alphabet city. This store has an amazing smoked meat selection. If you don't speak polish you may find difficult to place your orders, but pointing figures always works. Lol. I believe there is only one lady (very sweet and patient) who does speak English and I always keep my fingers crossed that we get her. Fyi, this store is tiny and it gets packed quick. It is pretty cheap compared to other polish meat markets. BUT the lines, the FREEZING temp inside the store are a huge minus. The quality of food isn't any different than other stores. I like the meat at Polam, but I really go there for their sauerkraut. Their kielbasa is always tasty, the sauerkraut is the best (especially the kind with carrot.) Every time I go in there are all girls behind the counter, so can't comment on the friendly samples! As their business has expanded I think they have lost control of their quality. They opened an annex on McGuiness and I noticed the quality of kielbasa and hams has deteriorated. Kielbasa over smoked and dry and the ham and smoked pork loins too salty. I have always gone in for their wide selection of dry products from Poland and low prices and ham but now I have to find somewhere else. I have always gone to Steve's for holiday kielbasa and lately Kizka's but now both are closed. My wife has been going there for 25 years direct from the "old country" but now time to look elsewhere. Greenpoint is being depopulated of Poles so there will be less and less Polish food shops. Time to readjust my taste's to the Hipster's and take up fondue and vegetarian brunch's. read more

Great place to get delicious sausage, cold cuts, and fresh meat. I love the verity of sausages, smoked ham, cheeses etc. During holidays, store is packed with new goodies, more fresh selection. Althoe I notice that many customers coming in, doesn't know what to purchase. Was just helping an asian couple, which sausage would go with the beer, or wine. As a small tip for the store. Very cold and can get very crowded, so if its a weekend or close to a big holiday wear something warm even in summer. Cheap prices, if you speak polish they are very helpful. If not they try to be helpful, Some workers speak more English then others. But you can get away with pointing and English. They also take credit cards always a plus. read more

Scant little English is spoken here but people tend to be perfectly nice, if a bit bemused, if you can't converse in Polish. You'll find numerous kinds of Kielbasa and other sausages and links, ridiculously inexpensive deli meats, smoked and cured meats and fishes, a butcher counter and a variety of other Polish groceries and dairy case items. This is the best meat market in Greenpoint since Steve's closed. Polam is definitely not closed, just shopped on October 8, 2017. Got some delicious krajana, ordinary sausage, kabanosi, head cheese, polish franks. Everything is delicious here and the price is more than fair. read more

The quality of their produce had gone significantly down. I'm a vegetarian and bought some cheese, but when I got home, I found pieces of ham stuck to it. I had to throw it away. Also, on few occasions I found their food to be inedible, probably old and already spoiled. I won't be shopping there again. read more

I shopped at this store for the second time during Memorial weekend. I pointed to the smoked pork loin on the counter but was advised to take the one hanging (much fresher I was told). Next day I made a sandwich with it. That afternoon I got so sick to my stomach! I could not get better until Wednesday afternoon. I spoke with few relatives and friends and they told me there is a possibility that the expired meat was soaked in water to give it a fresh like appearance. It would make sense. Once the sales lady handed me the wrapped meat it was dripping. Smoked meats usually don't drip. I notified the store of this incident but management has not returned my call yet. Employees are assuring me my message was relayed. read more
