The Well is by far the best spa experience I have ever had. We ended up spending about 5 hours…read morethere. Multiple sauna rooms. I did 2 sauna rituals, that were really amazing. The first one was performed by a Russian girl and the second one by a Finnish lady. The music was very upbeat and they both did sort of a dance with a towel. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone that visits Oslo. Definitely the highlight of my trip. I also had a juice that hit the spot. Carrots and ginger.

I have been to heaven, it's called The Well! During my 60+ years on this planet, my wife and I have…read morevisited numerous spas throughout the US and Europe, receiving hundreds of spa treatments. This spa trumps them all! It's a very special place. No spa or wellness clinic world wide can compare to the sophistication, beauty, professionalism and expertise by the staff and the entire resort. The Well has set the bar so high, I am uncertain it can be topped by any other spa or resort. It's super clean, beautiful and the spa treatments, sauna's, steam baths and hot tubs make you feel like you are experiencing either an out of body experience or in a dream. We spent two weeks traveling from the north cape, all along the coast of Norway, and our visit to The Well was our best experience and made our trip worthwhile. We had two full days of sightseeing in Oslo and choose to trash those plans and spend the entire time at The Well. Our room was clean and queen size bed was very comfortable. Shower was better than any hotel we visited along our two week trip. We dined at the Brasserie restaurant and food/service was the best we experienced along our two week trip. The food and dishes at the Brasserie were better than most Michelin five star restaurants we have ever dined. Even the bar tenders were awesome, drinks were delicious and unique and they were knowledgeable about everything Norwegian. We were their two day and spent every single minute from 8am to 22pm in the spa. Approximately 75-80% of the people there we in Well Swim wear and the other 25-10% were natural. If we lived in Norway, we would be regulars! In my opinion, The Well should be designated a Norwegian national treasure. If I could rate them 100 stars, I certainly would.

Artesia Spa Grand Hotel - Another view of the pool and lounge chairs

There's one word that sums up Artesia: paradise. This indoor oasis is exactly what the doctor…read moreordered for a stress free afternoon. With a beautiful pool, sauna and steam room accompanied by comfortable lounge chairs and a sweeping view of Oslo, Artesia is a decadent, luxurious and stress eroding environment. While you can use the facilities without booking a treatment, I decided to splurge on a hot stone massage and am so glad that I did. It melted away every morsel of stress from my fingers to my toes. My masseuse was very attentive and professional and I believe his hands may just be magical. Absolutely brilliant massage. The only complaint I would have for Artesia would be their strange rules about using their changing rooms, lockers and robes. When I arrived at the spa I requested a robe to change into and the woman at the front desk informed me I would need to pay 100 NOK in order to use a robe and their changing facilities. While I understand that charge if you are only using the pool facility I don't think it makes sense if you have already paid for a treatment. She continued that as a hotel guest I am responsible for bringing my own robe and that I need to contact the hotel front desk to obtain one. This information was not made readily available to me before my massage, even though I did book via phone. Sort of took away from the magical and stress free oasis feel that Artesia managed to create.

The breakfast was one of the better spreads we experienced in Norway during our 9 day trip. Lots of clean fluffy towels, great water pressure, nice hotel robes (I am a basic B!). Windows opened, thankfully, as they were having a heat wave and there is no A/C here so that was not ideal but at least they provided a fan which did help a bit.

The location couldn't have been better and we had only a short walk for our onward exploration in Norway. It was also close to the MUNCH museum as well as the opera house and very central for using the public transport to get around Oslo. The hotel itself is very up to date and our suite had all the expected amenities from power access to big modern bathroom. One complaint and I've seen this elsewhere in Europe, is your inability to control the temperature in your room. If you want it cooler you have to make a request to the front desk. Our room on the 6th floor was fairly large (by European standards) and was comfortable with a nice view to the train station. Our rate included the lavish breakfast buffet with loads of choices as well as a few made to order items like eggs Benedict and something I've never seen in Europe-bagels! A lovely stay except for the warm and stuffy room. Oddly they keep the hallways and other public spaces cooler. Be sure also to check out the fantastic hip cocktail bar-pier 42-in the lobby.
