Would not recommend this poki place. I ordered through grub hub. Portions are small. The "seared albacore" was completely cooked- did not taste fresh. My complaint is mainly regarding the white rice which was super hard/cold/stale like the rice was kept in the fridge and just scooped onto the bowl. Never have I had poki where they serve you cold/hard rice. (They normally will keep it warm in a rice cooker) there's also nothing special about the sauce they offer onto the poki. We are from Hawaii - my father lives in Westminster. I was driving in from Redondo Beach and thought I would stop and bring him some Poke for lunch. I picked this restaurant as they had 4 stars - so I went in with a certain expectation. I also had a certain expectation when I paid over $20 for a plate. When I got to his house and opened the container I was appalled at the portion size. There was hardly any food and I think I only saw 1 pc of shrimp. The poke itself looked like bad Chinese stir fry. Decent poke with decent servings. It didn't blow me away, but I was satisfied. I ordered a large bowl for a little over $14. Ingredients tasted fresh - I especially liked their seaweed salad. I wish more sauce was given as I felt like it was a bit dry when you dig deeper into the bowl. I can't speak to the customer service since I ordered online and picked it up. I'm glad I tried it, but it probably isn't the poke place for me. I came in and got a regular bowl with salmon, seared ahi, and albacore. I likes the idea that they had seared ahi since you never really see that anywhere else. However, the toppings looked a bit unappetizing. The edamame looked so pale. The crab meat had no color, either. It was the first time at a poke place that I felt hesitant to get all the toppings I usually get. When I sat down, I mixed my bowl. I got half brown rice half salad. Usually the brown rice is fluffy enough and soaks in the sauce that is placed on top. This brown rice was very dry. The salmon tasted the best in the bowl. As much as I support new businesses opening up, this one let me down. I wish it didn't because it is in a good location and the staff was nice and helpful (she let us know that miso soup was available for us that day). read more

This used to be my favorite poke place even though it's a far drive and I've gone plenty of times with and without friends. I noticed that the price went up recently. No big deal. Usually the service is fine and the portions are good. Today I went in and it was so awkward watching the girl try to take out ONE piece of tuna that was stuck to the scoop and back into the food tray. They were going cheap on everything and it was weird having to watch them shimmy out one or two pieces of fish. Disappointing and I won't be coming back. There are plenty of poke places, especially in OC, with the same price or cheaper and better portions. Skip out on this place. Ugh, what an awful experience. I've been to Poki Poki in Encinitas and in Arizona several times before and always had decent experiences, tonight was just upsetting. I went in at 8:20pm tonight (they close at 9pm) and okay, I've worked in the food industry, I get that you want to clean up early and go home as soon as that clock strike closing time so I won't hold that against them. When I walked in, it smelled like cleaning products, very strong cleaning products. Nice to know they cleaned but incredibly off-putting when you're looking for food. The girl who helped me wasn't wearing an apron, seemed fairly new or maybe not as comfortable and took about 10 minutes to make my a poki-rrito.. I made the mistake of getting a poke-rrito. To start, the amount of rice on it was ridiculous, the rice was also old and hard, sorry I get if you're closing in 40 minutes but you shouldn't be using old, hard rice. The fish tasted less than, nothing exciting, crab was mush and the avocado was clearly bruised, I could taste the brown bruising in my "rrito"and that flavor conquered all else. Not sure why but she also took about 2 mins just to get either a decent avocado or, honestly I had no clue what she was doing, I looked down at my phone for a bit at this point because it was taking quite some time and I was the only person in there. While she's working on my food, another (I'm assuming) "worker" was behind the counter making bowls with no apron and her hair entirely down. My friend took photos while she was waiting outside and texted me with them asking me why the hell her hair was down, =( yuck. Amidst the avocado fest, the gal helping me with my food started helping the other girl and giving her avocado too, I"m already waiting a silly amount of time but I'm patient. The gal with her hair down decides she's going to ring me up because I'd gotten my card out. She said NOTHING to me for about 30 seconds while she pressed many buttons, no eye contact, just says "$13". I pay, no tip, no way. All the while, my friend was outside watching the other girl attempt to wrap my sushi-rrito and she said she was struggling. Wrapped it and then unwrapped it because she forgot to cut it, okay fine. I wasn't asked if I wanted it for there or togo, they assumed togo without asking. Why was my sushi-rrito wrapped in deli sandwich looking paper with several pieces of tape keeping it closed? I know I'm complaining a lot but I can't make this up, it's facts. I just stood silently and watched most of it. When I walked out my friend just had her eyes wide open, same. What a weird, off, odd, lame experience. To top it all off, it tasted awful, SO SO MUCH rice, I basically picked it apart and ate the inside, which didn't taste in the slightest decent. Like I mentioned, I've been to Poki Poki before and it was always good, not the best, but nothing like this. I know you can't control the product that comes in because you are a franchise but please teach your staff about proper apron wearing and keeping your hair up rules EW, to work on their timing regardless of the time of day or how many people are in there, and to please not use brown bruised avocados.. there's more I want to share but I'm just really sad about the entire experience.. what a huge bummer. read more

I never had an issue with this joint up until yesterday. I myself do not have any allergies nor have I ever had a reaction to seafood elsewhere. I had a tuna, salmon and scallop bowl my usual order but within minutes of eating the tuna I started to have a reaction which included redness/flushing to my face and arms, and a burning sensation on my cheeks. The symptoms subsided about 15-20 minutes after; upon consulting with medical staff at my local urgent care they stated that this was due to scombroid fish poisoning(commonly found in fin fish). This is due to mishandling of fish and a build up of bacteria which causes histamine to build up causing a reaction very similar to an allergic reaction. While this is on the first time this has ever happened I do take this serious and would ask everyone to be careful; I would not someone to have to experience what I did let alone have a more severe reaction. Loved this place but beyond disappointed that I won't be ordering from this location again. read more

Called this place to see if any of their sauces were vegan and the person that picked up the phone said they didn't know what was in their sauces because they outsource them. My fiance and I finally got to come here last night for dinner after being recommended by our friends. It turned out to be a very pleasant experience for us. Our first impression as we walked in is a very clean & modern look, we love how all the ingredients are shown, look fresh & delicious that we wanted to try them all :). The staff is super friendly & very helpful, he nicely walked us through each option. We both ordered normal bowls with half quinoa & half salad, I picked salmon-mahi mahi-spicy salmon and my fiance picked salmon-spicy tuna-shrimp. We enjoyed all the awesome side dishes that we like: fresh avocado, pineapple, corn, dried seaweed, crab salad, etc. The staff did a great job mixing our bowls with the sauces of our choice. And free miso soup for we come in between their 5-8pm promotion hours too. We joyfully enjoyed our bowls there. We love the professional service there, food is really delicious at great price. The owner was very caring and asked us how everything was. We both wanted to come back here again and certainly share this with our friends & family. This place is Grand Opening & we won't be surprised that it'll become a hot spot in the area very soon. read more

Everything was fine up until I found plastic halfway into my onigiri. I would actually give this 3 stars as the presentation was very nice & the employee took his time making it. Tried this place twice for delivery over Grubhub and had a good experience the first time and an okay experience the second. The second time the rice was more hard and clumpy, there wasn't enough sauce, and they forgot my imitation crab meat topping. That is okay since mistakes do happen. First time trying this place I ordered around 1 hour before closing. I Ordered through door dash for a walk in pick up. It took about a good 40 minutes until the food were prepared. We came in before we got the message that it was ready, but didn't expect to wait that long. There were 2 customer that were there. To get down to the food quality I tried Salmon, Scallop, Tuna, and Octopus. I have to say all the fish were not the freshest possible at all. The tuna was very mushy and soft and very red. Salmon was not great. Scallop was ok too it wasn't squishy, it was more translucent like jello. I got brown rice sadly it wasn't warm, but very cold and hard. I thought this place would be better since it had some good reviews. I been here once only and didn't wanna lower the rating just incase only I had a bad experience because it was an hour before closing. Even so I still expected consistent quality control. Overall the food was just very basic. Felt like I was just eating big bowl of rice since their sauce was very mellow and made the fish taste like nothing.
