My +1 and I stopped here for a quick lunch after visiting the nearby Barnes and Noble. It wasn't hard to find, but we had to park around the back and walk around. Inside, the place was spartan and dim, and there was only one person inside who was happy to greet us. She explained what our options were and we both ordered the big bowls with 5 proteins. I picked tuna, spicy tuna, albacore, salmon, and spicy salmon. My +1 opted for scallops instead of the spicy salmon. They also offer cooked octopus and shrimp. They also had all the standard toppings, likes imitation crab meat, edamame, seaweed salad, etc. and a few different sauces. I tried the house sauce. I will say that I was a bit disappointed by both the quality and quantity. The proteins were a little skimpy and so were the toppings. My +1 mentioned that random pieces of fish were cooked, and they got her sauce wrong. Overall, it was edible but I've had much better elsewhere.

It was a Poli place. 11:30 am on a Tuesday, not much really going on. The place was empty with two staff members. Both of them were very nice, big smiles and helpful. This is long second time eating Poki ever, so they had to walk me through the ordering process and the different elements for me to create my own Poki bowl. Nice experience overall. My bowl was good, full of flavor and very tasteful, I had sushi rice (Sticky rice), shrimp, salmon , tuna, cucumbers, cilantro, avocados, crunchy garlic and soy sauce. I think that was all. Will definitely try it again if I am in the area. It's right off the 5 south, on Alicia Parkway!

After passing this place many times my second half and I finally strolled in here and gave it a shot. A bit more complicated than our usual spot, they offer build your own combos as well as premade selections. We opted to build our own burrito (me) and bowl (him). A few positives: There are more veggies available to add, making for a more filling and healthier meal. The veggies were fresh There were more options for mix ins than the usual spot, including edamame etc. Also more options for toppings, such as dried onion and garlic. Employee was nice and helpful A few negatives: Avocado costs extra Fish was mushy. Didn't care for the sauce, I tried the original poki cat sauce. Also had a taste of his grapefruit sauce, didn't stand out in any way. Will stick with the usual spot

Came here for lunch, and service was quick. Nothing super unique about the poke here. They had the standard fish options and standard toppings. The smallest bowl comes with 3 scoops of protein for ~$13. The fish chunks were a good size, and their traditional sauce was pretty good. Overall size was a good portion for lunch. I'm not sure which topping it was, but something was a little too hard/crunchy (maybe it was because there were too many sesame seeds). Overall, a good place to get a solid poke bowl.

4.5 rounded to 5. I have a set of nostalgic memories when I think of Poki Cat. I first came here during their grand soft opening because my then pregnant wife wanted poke, but couldn't eat raw fish. We called and Poki Cat did indeed cook the fish if requested (though for a charge), so we tried it out. The second time I went, my wife had just given birth and the first meal she requested was poke. Since Poki Cat was closest and we had a good experience prior, I came here again. Great service and yummy food both times! For sauces, I've tried the Poki Cat Original and the Eel Sauce, and both are good. I don't like a lot of sauce in my bowls in general, and the people there are more than happy to honor that request. Minus 0.5 stars for charging extra for cooking and for avocado, but I'll round to 5 for the nostalgia. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/poki-cat-mission-viejo-2?select=DcmlmfnmXuNaIL_2OcSDXA&userid=97Dj5h5CQUsWZrEWj3wWOg

I'm always stoked when I learn of a new poke place in town. Poki Cat just opened yesterday on 1-13-19. They are located on the corner of Alicia Pkwy and Via Fabricante, next to the former Rubio's and occupying the space of where Gandolfo's New York Deli used to be. I arrived right when they opened at 11:00 am and the employee inside was ready for me. He was the nicest guy ever! He explained all of the sauces, toppings, proteins, etc. and went through the whole drill, which is similar to almost all of the other poke places - choose a base, add your proteins, select a sauce, choose your toppings, pay at the cash register and dive into your poke bowl! The inside was clean, spacious and bright. It matched the personality of the employee. I ordered the 3 protein bowl (ahi tuna, salmon & albacore) with salad as my base, the Poki Cat Original sauce (a blend of ponzu & shoyu), and toppings, all for $9.99. The price is on par with other poke places. I also added avocado for $1 extra. Since they are in their soft opening phase, they are offering 10% off, which is a great deal! I got my bowl to go, and they put it in a sturdy plastic box and placed it in a bag. The overall poke bowl taste was good. I liked the fact that they offered to put a vinaigrette dressing on my salad base. I wish the protein pieces were a little larger though. The serving size was average, but if you're hungry I would definitely recommend getting the 5 protein bowl. Overall I would give this place 5 stars for the service (seriously, their employee makes a great first impression for them), and 4 stars for the poke bowl. Check them out if you're in the area!

The Best Weeknight Value in Mission Viejo: My New Favorite Roll…read more We've been coming to Samurai Sushi for years, and while it wasn't always my absolute first choice for high-end sushi, it has recently become our regular staple. Between the convenience of being the closest spot to our house and finding a new "go-to" menu item, it's hard to beat for a local family dinner. The "5-Star" Discovery: The Baja Roll I usually rate the general quality here around a 4/5, but I recently asked the server for his recommendation, and he pointed me toward the Baja Roll. That roll is a game-changer--a total 5/5. It's officially my new favorite, and having a specific "crave-able" roll has made me want to visit much more often. Perfect for the Weekly Family Routine If you have kids who happen to request sushi once a week, this is the most logical spot in Mission Viejo. Their combination meal allows you to choose three items and includes miso soup and a salad. It's the perfect way to feed the family without a massive bill. We try to stick to Monday through Thursday for the Buy One, Get One 1/2 Off deal. It's a huge draw for locals, so the restaurant is usually packed and lively on weeknights. The staff here is excellent; they are incredibly welcoming and get to know your face quickly, which adds a nice neighborhood feel to every visit. The Verdict The only reason I'm knocking off one star is that the dining area is a bit dated. I'd love to see the space get a little more "TLC" with some updates and a deeper cleaning. However, if you are looking for a budget-friendly, local weeknight choice that is fast and friendly, Samurai Sushi is a winner. Just do yourself a favor and order the Baja Roll!

I initially reached out about reserving a table for 40+ people during a basketball tournament weekend and was told the manager would contact me back. Sure enough, she called promptly to confirm everything for our Saturday dinner reservation. She seamlessly added the extra guests without hesitation. Her only request was that we send over everyone's food orders ahead of time so the kitchen could prepare and ensure nobody had to wait too long. And wow -- they absolutely delivered. Every single order came out accurately and in a very timely fashion. No mistakes, no confusion, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The servers were organized, attentive, and handled a very large group with ease. Service was truly 10/10. One of the reasons I chose Kin Sushi for a large group dinner was because the menu truly has something for everyone -- udon, sushi rolls, vegetarian rolls, bento boxes, chirashi, sashimi, and something for everyone. They even had Thai iced tea, which isn't normally something in you have in a Japanese restaurant. Parking was very easy, which is always appreciated when coordinating a large party, and there's a restroom conveniently located in the back. I'm beyond grateful for how well they handled our group, and I would absolutely return here again for future team dinners or large gatherings. Highly recommend!

That said, I'm not complaining: as a sushi spot in America that caters to Western tastes, this place hits. Some of my favorite rolls are the Bella, the Mission Viejo, and the Seared Tuna roll. One minor area for improvement is to-go orders. They seem to get very busy, and there could be better predictability around wait times. The order processing for peak hours (6pm on a Saturday) was about an hour, but on my most recent visit, my pickup order was delayed by about 30 minutes, pushing it to 90 minutes. It was frustrating for me, but I think it can be even more frustrating for Door Dash drivers since they're paid per delivery and long, unexpected waits can throw off their entire queue and earnings for the night. I do want to commend their customer service, though. They have always been great dining in, but this time, they could tell people were frustrated and genuinely tried to reshuffle orders and adjust priorities. Overall, improving order flow and wait-time forecasting would make a noticeable difference!
