Chicken Katsu Macaroni salad
Rob G.

The food was delicious. The chicken arrived very warm still. The macaroni salad is scrumptious. I was pleased as I was eating this meal. I'll give it another try in the future. Very good!

Authentic, large portion and great value are what I got from Ono Hawaiian BBQ. The short ribs, beef bbq, island white fish and chicken katsu were all so delicious. The staff were helpful as we placed our order at the kiosk. The ambiance is casual and bright with a few tables inside for dine-in customers. Most were for to go orders. Highly recommended!

. Food was good! Hawaiian chicken bbq was good. chicken katsu was good, but a little too crispy for me. Portions are great. Service is good. Made a to go order and it just happened that there was a promotion that day so didn't get order as quick as I'd hope which is understandable. However, it was weird how my scheduled order pick up came 10 minutes later than my order that I ordered after which was due for around the same time. Other than that really no issues. staff did a good job despite how crazy busy it was that day.

Aloha Plate Special

So not are entirely why the reviews are so low here. I got the aloha plate fish special and man was it a great deal. It's only 8 dollars. Here's what you get: You get 4 pieces of fried fish or spicy grilled fish. 3 scoops of rice Side Salad All for $8? We're talking pre covid prices. In addition I got greeted with a nice Aloha when I came in. Cool little courtyard to eat or they have spot inside. Also had a nice Hawaiian vibe when we went inside! Give this place a try the Aloha special runs until April 3rd. Also they have a really good deal on a family pack for $47.99 that I'm gonna give a try. Real soon! Highly recommended especially for those of us during Lent!

I've been to Ono Hawaiian locations in the IE and was happy to see a location opened in Lake Forest. Pros: easy online ordering, clean interior, friendly staff, and my food was piping hot. The bbq chicken was very flavorful and tender, and the macaroni salad is food. Cons: the white fish at Ono is a weird texture imo, and I am always turned off by it. But this is also true at other locations, and in the past I'd simply stopped ordering the white fish because it's consistently mushy on the inside. It's just an off-putting texture, even though the flavor of the breading is delicious

Grand opening today and there was special hula dancers, right now they're doing the buy one get one free special opening day only! My favorite item so far is the barbecue beef. It is actually tender and delicious. ! The barbecue chicken has a wonderful flavor to it. The staff are very nice. They're so happy and excited to be here.

Grilled fish, chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken

They have a promotion on the grilled fish so why not. We also tried the Chicken katsu and the Hawaiian BBQ chicken. They were good. Friendly staff and clean restaurant.

BBQ Plate

There's nothing like a good Hawaiian bbq plate with steamed rice, Mac salad and deliciously charred bbq. This location seems to have opened fairly recently on El Toro. I've been to other locations of Ono Hawaiian as the have other locations as well. I tried the BBQ plate which comes with Ribs, BBQ chicken and BBQ Beef along with the usual sides. Food comes out in decent time here even if it's packed and the great thing is they have a self service katsu and teriyaki sauce which saves from going up to the counter every few minutes and asking for more. I've always felt like the Ono Hawaiian BBQ has good food and consistent with their other locations at the industry average when it comes to quality, freshness and flavor.

Chicken mix plate (minus one piece of katsu because i was too hungry and didnt let camera eat first)
Michael A.

Came by because I got a coupon in the mail for a buy one plate, get one free deal. The parking situation is a little awkward because it's in a corner of the plaza, but there are plenty of spots around. They have one person at the register and then 2 self serve kiosks to order at in case you don't want to wait in line. The staff was nice. We got the chicken mix plate and Hawaiian BBQ mix plate. The portion size seemed fine, but it felt like there was a decent amount of cabbage underneath the meat. Also, they include some broccoli with the cabbage which seems very out of place. It would make more sense if it was a teriyaki bowl place, but seems very random for Hawaiian plate lunch. The Mac salad was good, you can also substitute scoops of Mac salad for rice. The portion size on the one scoop seemed really small. The rice itself came out a little watery. The chicken katsu was somewhat plain and very sauce dependent. Some pieces were almost all breading with very little meat inside. Probably the least enjoyable protein in the meal. The bbq chicken was solid and had good flavor. I think this would be the best bang for your buck item to order. The bbq beef tasted good, but the pieces were inconsistent in thickness. The kalbi short Rib was good, but you do pay a premium for it because it's $3-5 more than getting a regular entree.

4 plates on the grill slip and only 2 came in the bag!
Your Motha F.

Ordered 4 plates and they dead ass gave us only two. It says 4 plates on the grill slip. Their phone also doesn't work and DoorDash said this restaurant refuses refunds or reconciliations, so I guess we are just screwed out of our money? Not worth it. The pasta salad gets hot under the rice anyway. Thanks for ruining our evening

Chicken Katsu

The katsu barely had any chicken in it. Most of it was breading. They just pack the plate with steamed veggies to make it look like you got a big portion when in reality, it pales in comparison to L&L. I will never eat here again.

Only cabbage, where is my broccoli? :(

The oysters were especially refreshing with a squeeze of lemon, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp were a delicious savory bite. The salad was generously topped with shrimp--a satisfying addition to our meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality and portions, especially at Irvine Spectrum. I stopped in at a somewhat odd hour, but my first impression of the service wasn't great. When I walked in, there wasn't a single employee around to greet me for a good minute or so. Eventually, someone came out from the back and told me I could sit wherever I liked. Since I was dining solo, I grabbed a seat at the counter. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism continued throughout my visit. I'm not sure if there's a designated employee break area, but it was strange to see one of the servers eating a bowl of noodles in the same area where drinks were being prepared, and later squatting on the floor to take a break. At one point, another male server appeared, and their flirtatious and somewhat inappropriate interactions were awkward to witness as a customer. Overall, the service and professionalism could definitely use some improvement. As for the food, I came specifically for the $2 oyster happy hour. The oysters were huge and tasted fine. I'm generally not a fan of oversized oysters, but these were surprisingly meaty and smooth, so I enjoyed them. I also ordered the pan roast advertised on the happy hour menu, which was unfortunately a letdown. Rather than the rich, seafood-filled pan roast I was expecting, it was essentially a bowl of tomato bisque with barely anything in it, served alongside a bowl of rice. It really didn't resemble what I would consider a proper pan roast, and I wouldn't advertise it as such. Overall, while the oysters were decent and the indoor and outdoor seating options are a plus, the disappointing pan roast and lack of professionalism from the staff left a lot to be desired. There's definitely room for improvement, especially when it comes to service and the quality of the food being advertised.

We sat outside in their outdoor patio where they had a couple of TV's -one with the basketball playoffs going on ( my favorite)! The staff was just amazing and welcomed us and our pups and brought out water for both pups without us even having to ask for it , love that . They have lots of food to choose from but we stuck with the traditional combo plate : Cheese enchilada and carnitas taco - mine was a crunchy and hers was soft taco ( both were delicious). I also ordered a delicious blended strawberry margarita and it didn't disappoint. Our servers were : Enrique and Alfonso both were great . They brought us extra bean mixture dip for the chips as their dips and chips are AMAZING as is their food . If you haven't tried this place, you must try this place as not only is the food great , the people that work here are really amazing and that made our time here even better . We checked their hours and found they are open ALL DAY something like 8AM for breakfast -10 PM like what ??? Not everyday but most days , this isn't fast food either ... You have to try this place and for those who want to eat inside it's nice inside or sit at their bar or sit outside at the really big outdoor eating area , you can't go wrong ... Stop by after a Target run it's near by !! Thank you to you all for helping us and our pups - Enrique and Alfonso we will be back for sure !! Thank you again ! Prices very reasonable! I will say - the ambiance is pretty cool - there are a lot of different liquors along the walls. ITEMS I TRIED - Taco Sampler: my husband got al pastor, steak, and carnitas. I got chicken and al pastor. I personally liked chicken the best because the other meats were a bit too salty for me. The meat however was just okay, didn't really taste too authentic personally. PARKING: pretty easy as it is in a plaza SERVICE: it was somewhat slow, and they charged us more despite it being taco Tuesday, it was about $10 more on the receipt. However, they did promptly take care of it once we asked about it. PRICE: for 3 tacos, you got it for $11 with the corrected price which was a decent deal. Overall, I think it was solid but I won't be craving this spot or suggesting it to others!

There are others that do the same, but to be able to get a good healthy meal for less than $15 that's not a sandwich, it's great. and to get an actual nice quality fish plate for less than $20, it's great. I personally love all the protein bowls. The price is spot on, it's the right amount for lunch, and love the variety. Perfect meal before hitting the gym in the evenings. It's also very tasty. They have a variety of fish, cooked according to whatever your tastes are, chicken dishes, and vegetarian. The space here is ample for dine in, I always get take away because I don't have time - and my order is always ready. Next time you want to order lunch- try something different from the usual picks in the area or unhealthy ones. I'll give an example for someone looking for something 'healthy' - Today's prices have El Pollo Loco with their bowls/tostada salad around $13 I think, the protein bowls here start at $11 for chicken, and up to $17 with nicely grilled fish. Highly recommend. The team is also helpful and friendly.

However, given the prices and what they're serving, I would much rather pay a few dollars more and eat at an actual restaurant rather than experience here, or, for a similar place, I would choose CA Fish grill. All in all, my husband and I paid $70 for a sub par experience. He got the blackened snapper, which was quite decent, but I got the grilled snapper, and shook the salt shaker more times than I usually do. They came with 2 sides. The ceviche was the strangest ceviche I've ever eaten. It had a metallic taste with very large chunks of fish. It didn't taste anything remotely close to what ceviche is. Fresh, bright, and flavourful. All we could taste was the sour from the lemon/lime. Our friends got the poke bowl, which was reported to be good, and judging by the look - appeared quite fresh. This is surprise considering how many places in OC seem to be of excellent quality - it's quite the competition here. The food might be okay for some, but for a regular counter order place that was just a hair under casual - no thanks. The place is small and tight, bathrooms are located outside (not affecting my view of the place but it others are interested), you have a between $25-30 fish plate served on melamine plates and cheap flatware - I just can't justify the cost. This is regular casual restaurant pricing at this point. But the biggest thing is that the taste is just so so, limp, flavourless sides that needed sauce or salt, not to mention I see them using bottled sauces like terriyaki. The service was okay, uninspiring, but again, it's a counter order place.
