So stoked for an onigiri place in south county. Kid friendly and cooked fish in generous portions. I tell my kids this is like the perfect Asian sandwich - rice, sea vegetable (seaweed) and fish (they have meat options too). Easy to eat - it's wrapped in a triangle like a sandwich and easy to pack. We also had the shrimp bowl, salmon bowl and tuna bowl. All delicious. My son wanted to come back and we got the Korean bbq bowl too Lastly bonus for the store taking online orders, responding to texts, and being very kind when I was lost and couldn't find the place and had to come back the next day to get my food. They were so gracious about the whole thing. Plus they are next to Oslo Coffee, which is another great spot so all the more reason to go there. Plenty of free parking too, and they're open late unlike so many places nearby. read more

We had a pleasant experience at OniGuru. It was about a little over an hour before closing yet the server was very sweet and helpful. She brought our food out to us in a timely manner. The location itself was easy to find and had lots of accessible parking. There was a good amount of seating and a gender neutral bathroom. And there was music playing, some board games, and the place was very clean. The food was great; the onigiri had a solid amount of filling and the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The poke bowl customizations were great and also a solid grab. The prices were affordable and I recommend coming here for a quick bite with a good amount of variety. The drinks were a but underwhelming, and could definitely use some more of the flavor that they said they were (I.e. lychee, lavender). I would definitely come back again to give their drinks a second chance. There aren't too many good onigiri options elsewhere and their midnight closing time on Friday and Sunday has been very convenient. read more

A lil pricey for rice balls, but it was good to give them a try. They have a few high top tables inside, which can accommodate up to 10 people, but it seemed like they were pretty popular for takeout. After ordering, it does take a bit of time to prep. I think we waited about 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We tried a little bit of everything with an order of the Quartet ($16.59): - 2x KBBQ Prime Beef; $5.49 a la carte - 1x Teriyaki Salmon; $5.49 a la carte - 1x Tuna Mayo; $4.99 a la carte The rice ball size is pretty big and seasoned with furikake seasoning, but they aren't packed very well. After the first bite, the onigiri will fall apart, so keep a spoon handy. Beef and tuna were good, but the salmon teriyaki fell flat. 1) why is the salmon teriyaki so saucy 2) husband kept saying it was chicken teriyaki lol When I think of poke, I think of the protein, sauce and toppings all mixed together before setting on base. However, everything was assembled as layers and they were a bit heavy handed on sauce. The bottom of my bowl felt a lil soupy, so I'd opt to get sauce on the side next time. First time I had these rice balls (not at OniGuru), it was somewhere in Irvine, CA. I liked it. I'm glad they opened an OniGuru shop in Ladera Ranch, CA. I like all of the samples of rice balls and the truffle corn. I usually order take out and eat at home. The rice balls stuffings are packed tightly (need more stuffing though) and so tasty and filling. The truffle corn is also tasty with umami flavor. I use utensils (fork and spoon) instead of using my hand. When I get cravings for rice balls, this is the place to go. read more

Saw this place listed number one on my recommended list. Ended up taking a night drive with my wife from 15 minutes down the road wanting to try this place out. Initially came for the onigiri because why not? But came in for a classic poke bowl, can't go wrong with it. This place is called ONIGURU after all, so don't forget to get a side or onigiri. With there not being a lot of onigiri spots in my area, I hopped right at the chance to enjoy this restaurant and I'm glad I did! The rice was warm and fluffy, and fish and the beef tasted fresh. OniGuru, as the name would imply, sells Japanese onigiri as well as rice bowls and poke. However, I was primarily interested in the onigiri, as we don't have many options in this side of OC. My sister and I both tried the tuna mayo, KBBQ, crab salad, and teriyaki salmon. Tuna Mayo (2.5/5) was decent, but a little disappointing. I was excited to try this flavor, since it was my favorite during my trip to Japan. I think that there wasn't enough mayo and the tuna didn't taste as fresh. KBBQ (3/5) was about what I expected. Good, but I probably would not order it regularly. Crab salad and teriyaki salmon (4/5) were the best flavors, in my opinion. I gobbled these two for brunch. They were creamy, and full of flavor. I love onigiri and I'm so happy that we finally have an onigiri place in south OC. With a few tweaks, I think that this can easily be part of my regular food rotation whenever I'm in town. read more

Salmon had better flavor since kbbq was very bland. But tbh both were just ok in terms of taste and consistency. Rice ball didnt hold up well and wish it was stickier or toasted. We got the: - Oniguru Rice Ball Quartet (3/5): We got salmon, crab, vegan, and tuna. Nothing memorable at all... everything was so "mid." Ratios of filling to rice.. seemed like there was a lot more rice. - Shrimp Oniguru Rice Bowl (2/5): Shrimp are so small. Together with the rice, everything tasted even more bland than it was. I think there was also sauce in there somewhere? But seriously disappointing. - Spicy Garlic Corn (5/5): Luckily, literally cannot mess up corn. It was spicy, and garlic-y. The best part of the meal. The food is super tasty! Not only the poké bowls (which have great topping options), but the onigiri, which has an amazing filling to rice ratio. Their boba also comes with a sweetness option, which is nice for us who prefer it less sweet. The store is very clean and has nice decor. My only complaint is that it can be a little stuffy temperature-wise (presumably from the refrigeration), but it isn't a deal breaker at all, especially since there's outdoor seating. ​ The owner (who served us) is very kind! ​She's done a great job creating the store. I came to this place for lunch. The hours on yelp say they open at 11:30am, but the employee opened at 11:40am. Not a huge deal, but unfortunately what really got to me was the fact that the rice was not cooked yet. It was only after ordering and paying did the employee tell me it would finish cooking in about 15 minutes. This place is a onigiri/poke stop, I'm shocked the rice isn't ready at opening . It took 40min to get my food. That's almost my entire lunch break. And somehow??? Two people that came after me that also ordered poke bowls got their food before me. The place is clean, interior is cute. The food is good, but the inconvenience ordering at opening makes me not want to come back. They offered to give me a free dessert or drink, but I am staying away from extra sugar for health reasons, so I didn't accept. The employee offered 2 free onigiri for the inconvenience, which I accepted. It's the reason I gave an extra star. All in all, I can't recommend you come to this place until an hour after it opens! read more

No one greets you when you enter but the kiosk was pretty easy to use. It reminded us of the remote cashiers we've been seeing on the news. We got our food soon after and the server / chef greets you and they were very nice! I thought the onigiris were decent. My husband enjoyed the beef and spicy tuna, I got the shrimp and I was expecting a shrimp tempura but it was tiny little shrimps. Either way they were good! This is a good place for a quick snack but I was full after two onigiris. It was a clean place and it wasn't busy at all. Easy parking too! read more
