Incredible food. Awesome service. It was our first time trying Poke and the woman working helped us pick out a great plate. Cute local restaurant. If we come back to Hilo we will be back!

We saw this place on our way to the beach and decided to try it out today. The poke taste great and fresh. The food cost here is cheap compared to places we been to and taste good. The parking lot is so tiny that only a few cars can park at a time. This place is so busy when we came here today. The staff was nice.

i got a poke bowl here with a scoop of ahi tuna and kimchi tako! The food here is fresh and delicious, after ordering there is a table on the side where you can customize the topping on your bowl! the staff here is great! Definitely recommend coming here to grab some food!

Really sweet hole in a wall dive that serves tasty food. There's a choice between getting a hot plate versus poke. We got a lau lau plate with lomi salad and rice, a Kalua pork plate with potato crab salad and rice, spicy ahi poke (1/2 pound) and a spam Misubi. It was delicious and freshly made. Everything was super affordable. The lau lau was my favorite- right amount of bitterness from the ti leaves with the silkiness from the fatty pork- it's a lau lau I came to hawaii for. Even though I didn't make my own poke bowl, for my half pound I could add toppings like onions and seaweed on top of it and it didn't cost extra. We loved the Misubi so much I went back in to get more for our travels the next day and the chef in the back immediately made more- so don't be fooled by the empty tray- ask for it.

Ono ono ono! I grew up on Kauai but have been away from the islands for 20 years so when we visited the big island we had to get some local grindz. My hubby got the build your own poke bowl. The ahi was top of the line- no sinews, just perfect fish! Add in some onions, spicy mayo and other toppings for the full experience. I got the lau lau plate with lomi lomi salmon and a bag of boiled peanuts. The lau lau was fresh, not greasy, just perfect. I'd eat here every day if I could.

I came here on my second day of visiting the big island. Got mistaken for being a local, so that was cool. What I love about this place was the reviews I had read before hand and how they lived up to the reviews. This is a build-your-own style poke place. You choose your fish and the base of rice or greens and then you get to put your own toppings on it. A very tiny hole in the wall place, great prices, best customer service and local vibe. NOTE: parking is very limited and it is located on a street that can get a bit polluted with the light being right there.

Man finally after a year of living on this island my husband and I got to come in and experience the ono grinds! Loved that you could literally serve yourself! The fish was not chewy it was so perfect honestly every bite the cut was just right and the sauces you could choose and how much I mean how can you go wrong if you just listen to your gut! Your stomach knows what's good! The sauces on point loved the taco mixture hit so good with the rice and poke!! Will for sure be coming back and experiencing this place any time I get a chance! I wish they opened up Later and or had a second location even because man this was great! Quick turn around as well you can tell this is a local favorite and now I know why!!! This is a must experience and must go back again type spot! Thanks for the true aloha and the ohana vibe! They do not open up on the weekends so get there early and don't miss out on making your own kind poke bowl okay!!!! Was fire! I honestly could not stop making sounds the entire way through! Also I loved walking in and seeing the keiki chilling while their elders ran the place! I love family owned and supporting local! I also love serving myself so this place quickly become a easy fav! Go check them out you will not regret it!

BUT, the Jackie Rey's in Hilo has now become our go-to fine restaurant in Hilo town. The building is classic. An old town Hilo bank, with the vault intact. High ceilings, comfortable tables and decore and an artistic antique wooden bar that would be a gem in the crown of any European city. The management and personnel are the most wonderful people. Always happy to accommodate you in the best way they can. After one kamaaina visit the servers will know your name. They'll make you feel welcome and that you are a part of their experience too, something that is nearly impossible to find in other town dining. They have rewards programs for kamaaina which includes a point system that gives you significant savings on your next visit. The food is first rate, from the pupus to the main dishes to the desserts. Sauced and presented in five star fashion, without feeling pretenious. We will be their peskiest and most loyal customer as long as we are in the area. Kudos to Jackie Rey's Hilo.

If you dine here and are not a big person don't get a booth table as it's the most uncomfortable seating I've ever experienced. The seat is way too far from the table and I needed to lean forward and sit on the edge of the seat. I would recommend getting a table its chair so you be able to adjust yourself to the distance from the table. Server was just Ok and with them placing a water decanter on the table for refill they didn't come around as often. The decanter water has no ice so whatever ice you have in your cup to cool the water. Last time eating at this establishment was better and my only complaint was the window seats next to the picture window and the flys that was buzzing there. Only thing is again there were two big flies buzzing the windows and I had to waved them away. The doors are always shut and only when customers walk in could the flys get in. Staff should walk around before opening and get rid of them. We entered about 5:10 PM so it was opened for just 10 minutes and shouldn't have flys. Air conditioning was on but the temperature was a bit warm and a cooler temperature of maybe 10 degrees be perfect. I had the mochico Ono and it was just ok tasting but on the plate presentation was nice. My wife had the pork chops and she really liked it but said was just a little over cooked. I did try a small sample and to me it was just ok also. ambiance in the restaurant is nice and most of the staff were very attentive. The server we had wasn't and I needed to Get his attention to get my bill even though he had passed multiple times and didn't or should have noticed we were done dining. Probably not be dining again at this establishment again and do know of better dining spots in Hilo.

There was also live music with a lady playing guitar solo and singing! Service was amazing! We never had to wait long to order/get the bill. We were most impressed by the fact that the waitress made sure to split our Hilo local plate into two plates to make it much easier to share! We almost thought we had received two orders because of how well-plated they were. - Poke tower (8/10): Solid choice for an appetizer! There were ample portions of poke, and the flavors were nice. Not a super stand out dish though. - Hilo local plate (9.5/10): If you want to taste a wide range of Hawaiian cuisine in one dish, I would highly recommend getting this one! The Kalbi ribs were sooo good! They were juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The Kalua pork was pretty good, and both meats paired well with the rice which had an interesting savory haupia sauce drizzled on it. The mango chili slaw and pineapple salsa added a nice tang to balance everything out. - Triple lilikoi pie (5/10): Wayyy too sweet and sugary for our liking, and you can barely taste the lilikoi flavor. We ended up just picking at the graham cracker crust and couldn't finish the rest. It seemed like one of those desserts that are premade unfortunately, and we wish we hadn't ordered this dessert.

The big letdown was the ambiance. We were seated facing the street and parking lot the entire time ...no view...., just sad street. Overall, it didn't live up to the hype. Not terrible, but definitely not worth going out of your way for. The staff were all very nice though. Service friendly.

As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice because of how sweet the dessert tends to be, and because more often than not, there are a bunch of artificial colors used in the fruit juices. When we looked at the menu, I was impressed and excited to see the emphasis on quality of their ingredients: no artificial flavors or colors, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup, and no preservatives. I was sold. Although we were tempted to create our own shaved ice, we ultimately went with "The Local", a soursop and liliko'i combo topped with haupia cream. Between the two flavors, I enjoyed the sour sop side a bit more since it was the one that was less sweet. The cream on top was absolutely delicious, and reminded me of the light and airy frothed milk cream you find on many boba drinks these days. There's a generous amount ladled on top, ensuring you can have some in every bite without having to carefully ration out the cream. Overall, I'm a fan of Kula Shave Ice.
