Love this restaurant. My kids' favorite place to eat at Southlands. It's a little on the pricey side, but that's because the ingredients are fresh and delicious.

Let's get the bad out of the way. No matter what map app you use it'll take you to the back of the AMC movie theater where you'll see a bunch of kids smoking out back. Kindly keep driving and turn into the shopping center to find a parking spot. Now we can get to the fun part! Wonderful and upbeat service. I was greeted as soon as I stepped in and while the dining space is fairly small, the ceiling makes it feel expansive. I ordered a spicy ramen that showed up on their menu as Spicy Donkotsu Ramen. Traditionally its spelled Tonkatsu and I definitely couldn't spot any difference. The ramen came out decently hot paired with kamaboko, seaweed, bean sprouts and a half soft boiled egg. Taste, temperature and texture were all present. If I had anymore room I would've ordered more so that only warrants another trip here. Before I left I also ordered a Thai tea and red ben taiyaki. The Thai tea came out a bit sweet and as of this review I'm letting the ice cubes sweat a bit before drinking more. Otherwise it's definitely tasty. The taiyaki came out super filled and glad they left some of the edges on there because that is the best part! Since their namesake has poke in it I will have to return. I can say with confidence the ramen is great and I would like to try their bulgogi bowls as well. What a wonderful Sunday late lunch treat!

Don't recommend getting the ramen or adding extras into your ramen. I don't think it was a $16.50 bowl with of ramen, maybe a $10 bowl. I added an extra egg and never got it. Matter of fact never even saw an egg in mine. My husband got chicken teriyaki bowl and it was worth the money. I wish I could say the same about my ramen.

I just love poke. So when I found myself hungry post mani pedi, I knew just the place. Away I went to Poke Men, to nosh on all the poke deliciousness! THE SPACE: Poke Men is located in Southlands Mall, to the west of the AMC movie theater. There's plenty of parking nearby. They offer a couple of tables outside to enjoy when the weather is nice and inside they have a variety of seating options including community styles tables and a couple small tables. I really like the glass accent wall that they decorate based on the season. The various stuffed fish had Santa hats for Christmas - so fun! THE EATS: I love that instead of standing at the counter and building your bowl as you tell them what you'd like, you fill out an order sheet ahead of time, and they construct your bowl to your preference. I opted for their regular poke bowl with 2 proteins (ahi tuna and salmon), on white rice, with onion, edamame, spicy shoyu sauce, spicy mayo, crab salad, seaweed salad, pickled ginger, avocado, garlic crisp, and nori. YUM! Everything was so fresh, filling, and delicious. They do offer up ramen and sushi burritos in addition to their poke bowls, but I'm so hooked on the poke, it's going to be hard to switch it up and try anything else! THE SIPS: I'm a sucker for Thai tea. So naturally that is my drink of choice when a poke joint is out of my favorite Hawaiian Sun juices. Darn, COVID supply chain issues. The Thai tea is perfectly creamy and sweet. Make sure to request no boba if you don't want it - they add it automatically. Sometimes I just want my milk teas straight up with no frills, so I wish I knew this ahead of time. THE SERVICE: After a couple visits now, it's safe to say that all the staff is very friendly. During one of my visits, they were clearly understaffed, but they handled their customers well and took care of every one. I don't see my love of poke fading anytime soon, so I know I'll be stopping by Poke Men again. #cantstopwontstop

2 Scoops Build Your Own Bowl
    Stephen G.

This was my first time trying a Poke bowl, so I didn't know exactly what to expect going in. This is a make your own bowl place, which was interesting. You could check off what you wanted in your bowl to give to the bowl maker, which is a nice touch to make sure nothing is missed. We got two bowls and a dessert to share. The bowls were a little pricier then expected for this level of dining (fast dining on par with chipotle, with option to eat in or take out) but they get a pass given it's fresh fish. For what we got, we were just underwhelmed. My wife has poke a couple times a month and she agreed that it was just an average experience, with better poke out there in the area. The dessert looked good and was tasty, but not enough to bring us back for just that. If you're nearby and craving poke, this would work but might be better to try around.

Mediocre food not worth the price. Hot ramen served in a plastic cup.

Came in during slow hours and was greeted right away by a nice lady, she was great and made sure to ask me how i preferred each dish when it comes to sauce/spice level/protein choice and even let me sampled their sauces all of which was great! After ordering and paying at the counter, I filled my fountain drink cup and sat down in the couple tables that they had, wait time was not bad at all and they even waited to make my poke bowl to go AFTER I finished my dine in meal which was great and I really did appreciate that! 5/5 I had siomai appetizer which was really good and the suace that came with it really complimented well! It was delicious and easy to eat that I had to fight myself from ordering a second order hehe. 5/5 The tonkatsu ramen was so delicious and the broth was so tasy, I picked spicy and the spice flavor was just right. All the ingredients complimented well and I finished the whole bowl, looks like the previous customers who came in also loved their ramen so it must be very popular! 3.5/5 I also ordered their salmon bowl to go which was decent, nothing too fancy, I think we didnt read the ingredients that well so next time we will customized it so we can enjoy it better but not bad at all. Chinese pop music plays over the speakers and it's decorated with Asian artwork, a money plant and a really cool fish tank with various goldfish swimming around. The analog clock on the wall was kinda art deco and it was accurately displaying the time. I'll say that their spicy Tonkatsu soup base is wonderful and the noodles perfectly cooked and tasty. I'm not a fan of corn or spinach in the soup as those seem to be cheap fillers. The half eggs in our soups were hard boiled and not the normal medium-soft egg with the tasty rich yolk. :( They don't put any straw mushrooms in their soup and the shrimp I got were overcooked and not the tastiest. Hubby got the pork in his tonkatsu and it was incredible. Our fried wontons were great and the seaweed salad very good. So some things were great, others were not. I LOVED the darling plates with cute sayings and might come back to sample the poke dishes.
