Tried Poke Jon's for the first time--and my first time ever having poke--and we definitely picked the right spot! The staff was absolutely amazing... so kind and patient with us while we figured everything out. First impressions matter, and they made ours a great one. They also have plenty of seating, both inside and outside. We chose to sit outside--even though it was a little windy, it was still really nice. What stood out even more was that the staff still checked on us while we were outside and even went back in to grab napkins we forgot. That level of service doesn't go unnoticed! I built my own bowl with half jasmine rice and half quinoa, spicy chicken and spicy shrimp, cilantro, sweet chili sauce, and topped it with green onions, red cabbage, red onions, and carrots. I added kimchi--and let me just say, that was the BEST kimchi I've ever had. Even with everything in the bowl, it wasn't overly spicy--just perfectly balanced and soooo good. All the flavors blended together so well. I left completely full (with leftovers because I couldn't finish it all!). My significant other couldn't decide between two bowls... so he got both (no regrets ). He had the Tuna Boy--which he loved so much he finished the entire bowl--and added seaweed salad on top. He also ordered the Ramen Bowl, and it was just as impressive--beautiful presentation and full of flavor. The broth alone was delicious. I will start off with saying that the service and staff were very nice and friendly. They told us about their speakeasy/bar (Sake Jon's) located in the back outside. The food, was okay and not your traditional poke bowl. I didn't like that you couldn't see what you were being served because it was covered. Most places allow you to see what's being served so you can better decide what toppings you'd like. I also found it odd that they use jasmine rice instead of sushi rice, which tends to stick together better. My pokeritto fell apart after the first bite and was super messy. The best part of this place is Sake Jon's, which is the speakeasy located in the back serving great cocktails! 5 stars for this unique and super cool bar. There's a living painting, which was a new concept for me. The bartender was amazing and told us about the origins of the place and how he ended up in Blue Ridge. We were excited to try this restaurant based on friends' recommendations but were left flat after their failure to communicate THEN doubling down with rude and name calling replies to my low FB review. Our dining experience: We spent 45 minutes ordering online and driving into Blue Ridge only to find signs on Poke Jon's door stating they were "closed for remodeling" - with NO updates on their actively updated FB page, website OR online ordering page like a reputable, responsible business!?! All of those showed OPEN.. Then they replied to my review and said they had a "machine go down" - which would have been a little more understandable and "urgent" in nature than a scheduled remodeling but... The reason for the unannounced closure isn't super important in the overall communication but flip flopping on why they're closed seems problematic. They have advised via their replies that we should take our business elsewhere, which we'll gladly do - so no personal review of their food but definitely not where we'll spend our hard-earned dollars based on their value of customers! Service was good as well, although they waited on my friends before me and automatically assumed we were separate so they started doing other stuff before helping me. There were at least 5 minutes where I stood waiting to be helped. When I said we were together they apologized they "didn't think we were together" and started making my bowl. I think it was because my friends "looked different" than I did so they thought I was on my own? I'm not really sure. Thanks to Yelp we were able to find this amazing place. It's not right on the Main Street downtown. So it might not stand out but if you are a yelper you will find it. This place serves the best poke bowl I have ever eaten. It had great choices of protein and toppings. We ordered a large 32 ounce bowl with 3 proteins, and you choose 5 toppings and sauce for $14.99. We selected spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, and spicy krab, a combo base of Jasmine rice and kale, pickled ginger, wonton noodles, carrots, cashews, and red cabbage, with Poke Jon's sauce. There were free extras too, like sesame oil, eel sauce, and Wasabi sauce too, which we also got. All the seafood was super fresh, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Wow! We happened to find this place just by driving by. The service was fantastic. The young man serving us was pleasant and very welcoming. He even let us know that even though they would be closing soon, we were welcome. Now I love me some sushi and poke and the poke here was awesome. Plenty to eat, plenty of choices. Ate here with my family for lunch. Was really a nice option amongst a lot of bar food and diner options. Greeted warmly on our entry into the place. The owner was there and greeted us as well. Was disappointed as have never had raw cobia as was on the menu, but they stopped serving it.....stupid inflation and all. We had poke bowls and 1 Ramen. All were really tasty. Poke is obviously only as good as the fish that is used to make it. And the tuna, salmon were fresh and good quality. The other add on fresh ingredients were all really good too. My only critique is that the only sauce that wasn't sweet was the plain soy. Would be nice to have a Soy/sesame oil/rice vinegar option or something. The sauces were good tho. Beware tho.... the wasabi had a little bigger punch than we expected. Anyway, if you're in Blue Ridge and want a great, healthy, fresh option for lunch or dinner, you absolutely must try Poke Jon's. Do not eat here. I tried it for lunch and the kid working the counter was not wearing gloves and did not wash his hands between touching his eyes and nose. He seemed nice enough, but it was completely unsanitary which is the last thing you want invoking raw fish. I politely paid for my food and threw it away.
