It did not give me the runs so two stars! Convenient ordering online. No convenience fee. Kind of them to include premium toppings such as tobiko and avocado at no additional charge. HOWEVER, the sushi rice was disgusting. It tasted like adding a little bit of vinegar and sugar to long grain rice, resulting as a super dry and unappetizing half base. The other half base, mixed salad greens (+bits of romaine lettuce... huh???) was also disgusting with browning bits. Definitely has been in the fridge for one too many days. Sauce was sour. Mayo did not taste like mayo. Salmon was frightening. Spicy tuna tasted like sriracha on steroids. Imitation krab salad utilized the cheapest quality. Edamame was cold. Overall, walking inside to pick up the order made me NOT want to stay. It was very white and not very welcoming. Casual dining. Unlikely to be kicked out from chatting too long. During peak holiday season, only one dine in table whereas the nearby in n out was packed to the brim. Service was nonexistent. Did not make me sick which I sincerely appreciate. This place has awesome poke bowls at a fair price and generous portions. I often eat here when in south Carson City area. Located adjacent to the In-n-out, I recommend parking away from that madness so you have an easier time getting back out. I have been a long time Poke Doke customer (since they originally opened), and I can truly say that the food is good, so I'm giving two stars. The customer service, however, has declined to the point that I can't justify going; the food doesn't make up for the poor treatment. Every time I go, I leave feeling frustrated. Most of the servers are polite, pleasant, and helpful, so I don't want this to reflect on them. It's bad management and ownership. While there are many examples I could provide, here's one of the most recent ones. A regular bowl at Poke Doke includes your choice of three premium toppings, with additional premium toppings being an extra charge. These are toppings like mango, avocado, seaweed salad, imitation crab, etc... My fiance asked for this three scoops to be one scoop of imitation crab, and two scoops of seaweed salad. The manager barks at him and the employee serving, "ONE scoop per topping!" My fiance tried to clarify that he is already paying for three premium scoops on his bowl, and he didn't want any additional scoops beyond those - he just wanted two of them to be of the same topping. The manager refused to allow this, merely barking over and over that it's "ONE scoop PER TOPPING." What? How does that even make sense? My fiance ended up just using two of his premium topping scoops, one scoop of crab and one of seaweed salad. Poke Doke used to be delicious food at a reasonable price with friendly customer service. This was my favorite place in Carson! After too many incidents like the one above (I could go on and on, like the time they gave ONE single slice of avocado as a "premium topping" scoop), I won't be back any time soon. They nickel and dime you for everything, and they make it clear they don't value their customers. Too bad! read more

When browsing their online menu, I was really excited to see that Poke Doke didn't forget about their vegan and vegetarian friends. I know the joke playing out in your head right now... why did the vegan go to the Poke spot for lunch? But the punchline is easy. It's because they offer tofu! *Crickets*. But seriously, this inclusivity is quite literally what will keep me as a continuing customer, especially since fish is my partner's favorite food. The only reason why I felt I didn't get the full 5-star experience that I was hoping for is because I felt that my Poke Bowl was a little bit disjointed. Partly my fault, since this place is a build-your-own bowl restaurant, but the depth of flavor in my bowl just left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The rice was warm, but the other ingredients were cold. It also would have been nice if the tofu were marinated in something to help combat its naturally flavorless quality. Or, maybe, Poke Doke could offer a few signature bowls, giving poke-oblivious customers like myself easy combination choices that they know will taste good. Carson City's first poke restaurant! We were in town and decided to stop by here for a quick dinner before heading back to Reno. We've been to most of the poke places in Reno, but have not tried this place in Carson City yet. I believe they use the same size bowl for the regular and large. The only difference is that there are 2 more scoops of fish in the large. I think this is nice since the bowl can hold the same amount of the toppings without the extra fish between the two sizes. Originally, we were going to do half & half white rice and chips until the person making our bowl mentioned it was tortilla chips, and not the won-ton chips that we're used to - bummer! We opted for the large with just white rice instead. That was nice of her to mention though, before we got too far along with our bowl. You can choose all the add-ons and toppings! I recommend you choose whatever you like. The cilantro wasn't listed on the menu, so make sure you look at all the displayed topping selections! Sauces can also be mixed. We tried the Yuzu with a little bit of Japanese Dressing topped with the Mild Poke. A really nice combination and you could definitely taste the Yuzu! My boyfriend mentioned that he liked how they arranged the bowl - add-ons first, the fish, and then the toppings. The person making our bowl was also super helpful and enthusiastic while walking us through the steps. There are enough reviews to describe this wonderful addition to south Carson. Most include step by step instructions to help you through. Rather than rewrite what you've read a dozen times, here's new food for thought (no pun intended). My situation might be unique to you or right up your alley. My wife is an absolute no-seafood kinda eater, so that pretty much means I am, too. On a rare occasion, a large group of us take in the "all you can eat sushi" and she ends up nursing a bento box of chicken while we all try different rolls and delicacies. That makes her the proverbial fifth wheel. Must be a drag. Segue to our running into Poke Doke (literally, I ran my SUV into their building. Ok, not really). At Poke Doke, I can order a bowl with octopus, spicy tuna, shrimp, yellowtail; etc. My wife orders chicken, tofu and edamame. That's just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of combinations that respect her "Fish are friends, not food" philosophy. So she can fit in and enjoy the same experience while eating healthy, to boot! A search on Yelp on good places to eat in Carson City landed me at Poke Doke. They were currently only open for take-out due to Covid restrictions at the time I went. They had a sign on their door requiring masks and had plexiglass between the food area and customers which was further distanced by chairs lined up in front of the food area. Employees wore mask and hand sanitizer was available at the cashier station. They offer 2 sizes of poke bowls and then you build the bowl by selecting your base, fish protein, Sauce and add-ons and toppings. I got a regular sized bowl with salmon and all the poke toppings. You can add on as little or as much as you want when it comes to the toppings. They are very generous with what they put in the bowl. My bowl was filled to the rim! I was impressed by the taste too. First, they give you a bowl of your chosen base. Which could be chips, salad, rice or a combination of any of those. I almost always get the salad while trying to keeping the carbs down. Because low carbs during the middle of the day keeps the naps away. Anyway, after the base you pick your add on. I love getting the white onions and crab. Then come the proteins: an assortment of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, spicy tuna, etc. I almost always get the Salmon, Yellow Tail and Spicy Tuna, but I might mix it up with shrimp. After that you pick your sauce and other toppings like seaweed salad, edamame, furikake, ginger and/or tobiko. All the times I have been in, the line moved very quickly and I was able to get in and start eating within just a few minutes. It's a light and tasty lunch that still fills you up and feeds you for the rest of the day. I think they have more than enough seats, I've not had a problem finding a place to plop down and devour my lunch. One cool thing to consider is the very close location to In-N-Out, because if you are eating with a picky eater, the picky eater can hit up the burger place while you get your raw fish fix next door. Parking isn't crazy convenient, so take that into consideration when you bring your grandma she may have to walk a bit to get there. Second time I've been here. From what I've experienced, consistently good food. Staff is always able to explain questions you have about items they sell. Only thing is that they charge a little much for what your getting. Ambiance is fairly nice, even though you stare out at a parking lot when dining in, you can see a clear view of the mountains. I love Poke Doke with all my heart and soul! The place deserves five stars for so many reasons. First and foremost, the customer service is consistently over-the-top friendly. For example, on my most recent visit, Patrick not only crafted a bowl to suit my preference for extra spicy, but he also checked in with me to see how I liked the bowl as I was shoveling it into my face. Also, everything they serve at Poke Doke is fresh, fresh, fresh! That's pretty amazing, considering that Carson City is nowhere near an ocean. And last, but certainly not least, Poke Doke offers kimchee as a topping option. Me and my girlfriend each wanted to explore the menu a bit so we both got half rice and half salad on the bottom of the bowl( I had brown rice so as to explore the menu ). Next, you pick your protein. You can buy more scoops if you want but we each had 3 scoops. I picked salmon , hamachi( yellowtail) and tuna. On top I will have to say was my favorite even tho the fish was perfect. On top they give you great selection of toppings such as some beans that seem like edamame beans ( I'm not sure but they were delicious), jalapeno, cilantro, mango, green onion, kimchi!!! , yes kimchi!!! Probobly more toppings but I forget for now. They have the spicy krab and they can make spicy for you any poke bowl upon request. I really feel down on myself for not eating so healthy and respecting my body like I should. But let me tell you this was the first meal in a while that I really felt GOOD after ward. I was greeted warmly by the staff and quickly placed in a conveyor type line of choices. First, choose your base. I chose brown rice. They also have salad greens, white rice, other items. Second, chose your extras. They have kimchi y'all! Also, onions, tofu, some other items. You can choose more than one. Third, choose protein. If you order standard bowl you get 3 scoops of proteins, large bowl is 5. I opted for the regular size and that was PLENTY. I only ended up eating half for my lunch, it's a lot of food folks. I chose, spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail. Fourth, toppings time. Any toppings and sauces. Lots of options here... I went with mango, seaweed salad, green onion, edamame, furikake, the yuzu sauce and spicy poke sauce. The bowl was packed to the rim, and delicious! They also offer an assortment of cold drinks (bottled) and a soda fountain. No iced tea, only green tea in a bottle. Which was fine by me. Total for regular bowl and tea: $14. Which is definitely in line with other poke places I have been to. Like I said, it's a lot of food so you can easily get 2 meals out of the regular bowl. Had lunch here today. Small place, next door to In & Out. A few tables and a couple of small counters to sit at if you choose to eat there. It was getting busy and I was by myself, so I took mine to-go and ate it in my truck. WOW... total explosion of flavor! Very fresh, very tasty. They operate like a Subway. You go to one end of the counter and follow your bowl along its journey to the cash-register. There's several steps to building a bowl, which are clearly outlined on the wall in front of you... easy to read, easy to understand. When we got to the sauce and toppings, I asked for some suggestions, which they're happy to do. I got a large bowl and enjoyed every bit of it, but probably would have been just fine with a regular... there's a lot of food in these bowls. I've got family in the hospital recovering from a knee replacement. We all know how bad hospital food is, so I kindly, selflessly took my kids and headed to Poke Doke. (In the snow, with a winter storm warning in effect! Did I mention selfless?) The place was packed today, but the long line moved very quickly. I ordered for the patient, but of course the kids were hungry and I had to order something too- I support local business, after all. The brown rice is even better than the white, their crab topping could be a meal all by itself. The kimchee is packed with flavor, yet not too spicy for the kids. The fish is always top quality, veggies crisp, colorful and fresh. Pro tip: get all the crunchy toppings. The furikake and crispy garlic are so good, all of the crunchies together add a whole other level of flavor. Devil-on-the-Shoulder tip: macaron ice cream sandwiches again. Coffee is my favorite flavor so far, my daughter loves the Green Tea and son prefers vanilla. Ask questions! The staff is smart, friendly and helpful. They can tell you what sauces are good to mix. When I delivered the food to the patient, she wisely started with the ice cream sandwich. (Life is uncertain, eat dessert first) The sounds and faces she made were downright obscene and her first question was, "are there more? Can we go get more?" She loved her bowl, remarking on the crab, edamame and scallops repeatedly. I had to promise to bring her another this week. I felt bad that her roommate was stuck with hospital food while I was bringing good stuff, so I brought the roomie (who has never even tried sushi) a bowl as well. I'll update when I find out what she thought. Overall, another great experience, so good I was moved to update my review. Carson needs Poke Doke to thrive.
