    Vegan poke bowl
    Joi B.

With just one visit & one bowl devoured, I'm well on my way to obsessionville with Poke-chan! I'm a lover of all things bowl, from açai to bun to bi bim bop to burrito. Believe it or not, I had yet to try a poke bowl because I figured they were more oriented to raw fish lovers and being that I'm vegan, I couldn't imagine anything too exciting going on (a bowl of raw veggies... isn't that just a salad? WRONG!) They had me at the get-go where you fill your form out. I have very specific needs and get hellannoyed when, say, the sauce or the nuts or the avocado is left off whatever bowl I've ordered. And it's inevitable because human error is more the norm than the exception in New Orleans. I think there were roughly a dozen different asks on my form and all were executed as desired. They allow for your bowl to be served over rice or greens. I went with the latter and loaded that baby up with fried tofu, wakame, nori, daikon, marinated bean sprouts (one of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth), macadamia nuts (nice Hawaiian touch!) and a bunch of other things that give justice to the over-used phrase, "party in my mouth." This might have been more of a blow-out celebration! All of the ingredients are super fresh (my guy confirmed the same of the raw fish) and generously arranged in the bowl. I'll be honest. I was regretting not ordering the large for $2 more (I'll be honest. I almost ordered a second bowl to go) because it was so damn delicious! Environs is a cozy, transformed shotgun with plenty of seating and a really nice back patio that will be enjoyed in weather that is not over 90 with even higher humidity. I'll be back in less than a week. Not kidding.

Very happy to discover this place, having recently moved here and realizing I'm in the middle of a healthy food desert. The people working here were very welcoming and helpful, and the food was really healthful and satisfying for a modest cost. I will be back often.

I lost my Poke virginity here and I will treasure the memory until I die! Menu is pretty straight forward just pick what you want either raw or cooked and the friendly staff will bring it to you once ready. I had the one with the pork belly and raw egg and it was delicious. I also tried the octopus balls and they were amazing!!! I will definitely be back for more.

I came here for the first time last Sunday around 8:30 for dinner. It was somewhat empty, and had a cute little setup. They have laminated slips you can fill out with dry erase markers upon entrance for the build your own bowl option, otherwise there are signature bowls on the wall menu behind the work station. I did the BYOB of course, with the large bowl which comes with three scoops/ proteins. I really loved that they had furikake and togorashi seasonings for the rice/ bowl. I was given a number at the register after payment and the food was brought out to me shortly after. The first thing I wanted to try was their sushi rice, because that's one of the biggest factors that can make or break a good poke bowl. The verdict: their sushi rice is amazing, and they definitely know what they're doing! I tried some of the fish alone to taste for the sauces, and they could definitely use some work as they were lacking some flavor. Fortunately, you can always ask for extra sauce for your poke, although I just squeezed a ton of extra srirachi on mine. I enjoyed my poke bowl from start to finish and no food was left behind. Of course it is a bit pricey, but the value is great and you get amazing portions for the price you pay, unlike the surrounding competitor *cough*. And you can't forget about the good service they provide. Next time, I'll be back to try the takoyaki and the fried chicken along with one of the specialty drinks! I'm also wanting to try my poke bowl with wonton chips instead of rice.

Nice new restaurant in this area of the city! Love that you fill out your "create your own" with dry erase markers and not wasting paper and pencils. I created my own bowl but was disappointed when they come to tell me they had no octopus. He got the honey garlic bowl off the menu. We got iced coffee and milk tea- which they forgot to make and we got after our food. Only thing is the signage, we missed it and kept walking past the wine shop until we realize it was the "house" with the sign way up high- the shutters were closed and the blind down on the door. Be on the look out and hopefully they'll add some pizazz so more people know about it!

I've been holding off on writing a review for this place. Only because we've eaten here multiple times and every time was a different experience. First visit was great. We met the owners and everyone was so helpful and accommodating. Their suggestions for sauce choices were on point. Food were delicious and fresh. Second visit was ok. This time my salad tasted dirty, as if it wasn't washed and prepped before serving. I did saw the guy open a bag and dumped it in. I'm sure a lot of businesses do this as well but maybe we just had a bad batch? I don't know. It threw off my entire meal. I ended up having to pick around it. Third visit was better. I wish I remembered which combination of sauces I created the first time. Pretty sure I've tried every sauce they offer. Overall, nice place. Clean setting and bright, open space. You can either build your own bowl or choose one of their specialties. Love the freshness of the seafood. So far the best poke we've had in the city.

This'll be long. Short version: this is a build your own bowl that offers nice choices, fantastic ingredients, vegetarian options, good service and a really nice space to eat. They offer a poke bowl option (rice-based), but you can also get a bowl with a bunch of wonton chips and no rice, or a seaweed-wrapped burrito, both of which have their advantages. The wonton chips are pretty delicious, and the sushiritto comes wrapped and halved, which I find makes for fantastic leftovers. The great thing about the menu is the diversity of ingredients it offers. You want fresh vegetables? Fruit? Sure! You want something fried? The lotus chips and wasabi peas fit that. You want more protein? Soybeans. Some healthy fat? Avocado or macadamia nuts. Spicy? They've got jalapeno or wasabi. Sweet? Mango. Sour? Pickled daikon or ginger. Every bite is something new. Hawaiian makes for a natural fusion cuisine that has a lot of good stuff, and the sauces and ingredients here are all top notch. Expensive for a bowl, yes, but worth it. And if you're building a vegetarian bowl (or burrito), their unlimited topping policy makes it even more worth it. You can definitely eat fish free here and not feel cheated. And the house they've built in is quite beautiful and a great place to eat, and when I've been in there have always been plenty of people working here and I've gotten notably great service for a casual restaurant. One can order by filling out a form in front, which given the complexity of options is helpful. I do really wish they'd mark the menu as to what (particularly among sauces) is vegetarian/vegan. Mind you, they still don't have a working website. And it's not especially fast for a build your own bowl place (and at the moment you can't really order in advance). And still it's unclear to me whether certain things (notably their miso soup) are vegetarian/vegan. But I suspect I'll be back often enough to find out. TL;DR So I returned to this place a month or so after my first visit and tried something different. You fill out a card to customize your order, and I thought through mine and was ready to pay when I was stopped. I was a bit thrown off and wondered what was wrong, until I was told that because I ordered tofu (instead of some expensive seafood, presumably), I'd get unlimited regular toppings and one premium topping included in the price. Even though this is ostensibly a seafood restaurant and I do not eat seafood, this is clearly a place that wants my business. /TL;DR

I had been searching for a place that served sushi burritos for such a long time and was so happy to find this place! All the ingredients are fresh and you watch them make it in front of you. Great vegan options as well. When you order tofu, you get unlimited toppings. :)

Best poke in the city. I highly recommend the raw bowls they have on their list and not make your own. I'm so happy they came back after the pandemic because I absolutely love this place and the portions are substantial.

Poke Chan is my favorite poke spot in town. I think they have the most creative & freshest poke in the city. You can't go wrong with the tamarind scallion bowl or miso sesame bowl! Oh and they fried chicken bowls are also good!!

This place is so yummy. Fair price and portions. Lots of options so don't just glaze over them if you don't know what it is initially. Can't really critique cause I make my own bowl so it's up to me what flavors I want. Generally though, the ingredients are fresh and the combos turn out decent.

Everything here was super fresh and delicious! They had plenty of options to choose from. You can do a premade bowl or customize your own! I always love to customize mine so I can put all the toppings I want! Definitely recommend!

The best poke place in NOLA I have known so far. Everything here is great especially their Takoyaki! The place looks very cool too but a bit too cold. Their backyard is very nice too especially at night time! Recommend this placeeeee

Are any of the proteins cooked besides the tofu?

Yep they have a whole section of the menu for cooked bowls! Salmon and ribeye are two I can think of off the top of my head.

Do they use sushi rice or jasmine rice? Poke-Loa uses jasmine rice which I personally don't like for poke bowls.

Sushi rice! You can also get brown rice.
