My stepson had been telling me for months that I need to try Poke Cafe. Tonight, I had the chance to stop there for takeout for him and myself. The store is located at Rockaway Mall in one of the strips of stores outside the mall. There are tables to dine in, but most of the business was takeout while I was there. Being a novice here, the woman helping me was very patient. I wound up ordering a bowl with a zucchini noodle base, General Tso's chicken, with spicy crab salad, edamame, and pineapple, all topped with a delicious sauce. I also had a crab stick and a spring roll included. Lots of food! I found this dinner to be a nice alternative to ordering Chinese or Thai food. I'll be back!

I've had some pretty amazing poke when we went to Hawaii. I am surprised how much I enjoyed the poke bowl here. The staff is super nice, you can customize your own poke bowl or you can get the ones on the menu. We got the spicy tuna and salmon. The portion is very generous, the fish was fresh and there was enough fish up until my last bit. The other ingredients (red onion, cucumber, cilantro, scallion, corn, Hawaiian shoyu, tempura flakes) go so well with the fish and the sauce. Our friends got sushi and she kept going back for more. We were too full after the poke bowl, Will go back to try their sushi. There were plenty of tables for dinning in and a very clean bathroom.

3 Protein Create Your Own Bowl (~$18)

Ordered: 3 Protein Create Your Own Bowl (~$18): brown rice, salmon, tuna, shrimp, cucumber, edamame, sweet onions, pickled ginger, seaweed salad, spicy crab salad, spicy mayo & wasabi mayo, crispy onions, crispy garlic, and tempura flakes Aya's take: I absolutely love poke and it's difficult to find poke spots that have good quality, quantity, and price. The price at Poke Cafe was a bit on the high side but the quality and quantity were spot-on! All the ingredients were fresh and the portion of each topping was equal. It was super filling; this actually lasted me 2 meals! The staff here is very efficient and friendly. I was greeted upon entering and thanked upon exiting. If you find yourself in the Rockaway area, definitely stop by! This is one of the better poke spots I've had in North Jersey.

Stopped in for lunch and ordered the spicy tuna and spicy salmon bowl. Staff was friendly and ingredients are fresh. The establishment is also maintained and clean. Got my poke bowl fix and it was delicious! Excited to try their other bowls. Will be back.

Summary: if you love poke bowls, Poke Cafe is worth a try! Most of their poke bowls are priced at $11 which is not bad and it's a decent portion size! Aside from raw fish, they also offer cooked protein as well. They also have smoothies and bubble tea! I came here on a Friday night to check out this newly opened spot. They've been open for a few months, Jan 2022. First walk in, the restaurant was clean and there was a seating/dining area off to the left. On the right, you'll find the poke bowl bar and you head to the back of the bar and make your way down towards the register. Their menu is displayed on screens on the wall and you can see all of their ingredients behind their glass barriers. There's "build you own" bowls or bowls that are preset for convenience. Based on their menu for the "build your own", you begin by choosing your base (rice, salad or zucchini noodles). Then, although protein is next in line, the server asked about other toppings first and stated the protein can go on after (for better presentation I guess). They have a good variety of toppings and protein to choose from (see photos). I did find it interesting that they offered some Chinese style protein (General Tso's chicken, Walnut shrimp) but I guess they're catering to those who may not like raw fish which is smart. I chose raw salmon and tuna and the quality was okay, not the most fresh I've had but decent. I recommend reading the menu first before adding toppings though because it's very easy to just point to all the different toppings you want and not realize that some have an additional cost (I had to pay an additional $1.50 for seaweed salad). Finally, you pick from a selection of sauces and "crunch" toppings. I tried the Wasabi mayo and I wasn't a fan of it, but who knows, you may like it? It wasn't overly spicy, just didn't taste like much. I usually like Wasabi too so I was disappointed. Overall, I was satisfied with my poke bowl, it was pretty tasty and filling. I couldn't finish mine and had to save it. Also on their menu, they offer bubble tea, fruit teas, fruit slushies, and fruit smoothies. I didn't order any this time but maybe next time. I've waited a long time for poke bowl place to open up in the area and I'd have to say this place is worth a try! I'll be back to try different proteins and some of their beverages!

Super delicious fresh Poke bowls. All the ingredients are fresh and healthy. Lots of options to create your own bowl or pick one off the list. Nice clean place and friendly fast service. I will for sure be back to try other option and the drinks. Updated review - I went back and had the teriyaki chicken and fried shrimp bowl and it was absolutely delicious also. This is my new go to in Rockaway.

1st time trying poke and poke cafe!! Lets seee
    Elisa M.

Sooo today was the 1st time I ever that I try a Poke bowl. I wasn't exactly quite sure how to order. I ordered online a half and half poke bowl, half with brown rice and zucchini noodles. It then tells you to pick 2 proteins I picked spicy tuna & shrimp. Then pick 5 toppings I picked edamame, avocado (extra charge for avocado), pickled ginger, cucumber, and scallion. Then it asked me to pick 5 sauces ??? So I did! I picked poke dressing, spicy sauce, ginger dressing, sriracha aioli, & Hawaiian shoyu. i didnt quite understand why so many sauces i had to choose. The I topped it with dry seaweed, bonito, sesame seeds and tempura flakes! I honestly didn't know what to expect. I also ordered pork gyoza which is considered a side. I went to pick up order and by the time I arrived from my job (denville nj) to Poke Cafe it was ready to go! When I got home I was excited!! It was beautifully packed nothing leaked. See my pics! Then I tried the gyoza 1st. They were fried but very yummy!!!!!! Then it was time to try my bowl of flavor explosion! It was very good ! But definitely wayyy too much going on. So now I know you don't have to pick so much I definitely will try it again with less sauces but it's a very refreshing and satisfying meal. So I do recommend you try it! Just don't over do it like I did. Enjoy!

A little if this, a little of that. Salmon, brown rice, beef, mango etc

Fresh delicious food. Very clean. The staff is extremely attentive and KIND. For the same price as going to Burger King, you'll have food that's actually healthy in an environment that's not loud or hustle bustle

First time visiting this location and my experience was overall great. I ordered a build your own bowl with Tuna. All of the ingredients were fresh and the choices for topings were plentiful. Service was super fast and friendly. Will definitely make this a weekly visit spot. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves light and healthy food options.

The experience reminds me of many of the local, fast-casual restaurants we've enjoyed while visiting the Hawaiian islands - although I didn't see an option to have SPAM with any of the dishes. Place your order at the counter, then have a seat at a high-top table while your food is prepared to order and served in plastic 'to go' containers with disposable eco-friendly forks. The taste and quality of the food does come at a price, as the prices are slightly higher than most of the other fast-casual options in the area, but it's worth it to me (as it should be to you). I had the Loco Moco bowl ($20), comprised of kalua pulled pork, brown rice (substituted for the white rice it should come with), cabbage and carrot slaw, scallions, crispy onions, and topped with a fried egg and kickin' lime sauce, which was VERY tasty. My dining companion had the Shaka Bowl with grilled chicken ($20), comprised of zucchini noodles, carrots, cucumber, scallions, cabbage, pickled onions, mango, and sweet chili sauce, which she really enjoyed. We will definitely be back! PRO TIP: Shaka Kitchen doesn't have a private parking lot, but there is plenty of on-street parking off South Street. Bring change or use the ParkMobile app for the meters ($1 per hour) Monday through Saturday from 8am til 6PM; all street meters are free Monday through Saturday after 6pm and all day on Sunday.
