What an amazing course to play on for a single 9-hole course. You have the option to play just 9 or play it twice for a full 18. What stood out about this course it wasn't just an average course. They have a nice game room with pool tables, golf simulator, golden tee, and a nice bar setup within their clubhouse. They even have a food truck right outside the club house next to their golf simulator room. When you walk into pay just go to the right and you will see their golf shop. Plenty of swag gear and other necessities that most golf clubs don't carry in my opinion. For course play, hole one is not only a challenge being you have to battle your way up "Hamburger Hill" with slice to a bit left and a slightly inclined putting green. You have to watch out for the driving range to the right. My buddy and I had a good time playing, but man it was cold when we arrived here and we were the first couple of players to start the day. The golf carts come with two USB type A plugs to keep your electronic devices charged. They also use a TagMarshall for GPS. Which in my opinion it is one of the best GPS devices I have utilized on a golf cart. This course has a lot of scenic holes with plenty of wildlife aka deer roaming the course. They are pretty cool to watch as they watch you play tis course. The staff here are friendly and welcoming when you arrive. Depending on where you are located in the Austin area it can be a bit of a drive; however, the drive is very scenic. From Pflugerville it was about a 55 minute drive. I highly recommend trying to this course out if you're tired playing the usual courses in the Austin area. Also, they offer military discount through military tee times. read more

The price is right for this 9 hole track. Check Golf Now for great 9 and 18 hole deals. This is a 9 hole track and you can make the turn for another 9 to play 18. The course is in good shape and the greens run true. About those greens! I don't believe there is a flat green on the course so if you are in the wrong spot a 3 putt is common. From the blue tees, you can use a fairway wood or long iron on most holes. I hit driver on a couple of par 4s and ended up with a short wedge shot to the green, risk, and reward! I did like their comfortable electric carts with 2 USB charging ports. I did not like the fact that the carts do not have coolers. Also with groups making the turn and others waiting to tee off, it was a jam up at the 1st tee. We had to go down the line and figure out amongst ourselves who was supposed to tee off next. A starter would be a nice addition especially when they are busy. All these are first world problems as we had a great time and finished 18 holes in under 4 fours. Their 19th hole bar and patio are well equipped with beverages both low and high octane. This is a nice track that I would play again. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE A NEW GOLFER. After the fifth hole we were approached by this rude lady telling us we were "so slow" that we were holding up "5 groups of people" and we needed to "pull to the side and let everyone play through." All 5 groups. She went on to say that she had been watching us and we were swigging like 15 times each which was a complete lie. We apologized and told her that we were new and we're cognizant of the golfers behind us and we're making sure we were picking after 8 balls and we're waiting for the golfers to catch so we can let them go first. She completely disregarded that and said you still need to move to side and then you can be as slow as you want. Seriously? We started at 9 and she approached us at 9:50, for 5 holes that's not bad even as slow as we supposedly were going. We were so frustrated that we decided to just leave. When we arrived at club house, the attendant asked how it was going. We told her what happen at the first thing she says " I remember my first time. They bullied me too, they're ruthless out there" so that's okay? She goes on to say, you should of just moved to the side if you were that slow. "I was bullied too" Really? Less than an hour for 5 holes and that's slow? Maybe it is but the approach should of been better especially when it appears there is nobody at the golf club and the whole golf course was empty. This place is definitely not for new golfers or new people that don't live in the community where you're know on a first name basis. I guess we wouldn't be so upset had they approached us differently instead of insulting us. read more

This is a great course, especially for the price. You can book your tee time on their website and save a lot of money. We were able to get a round (18) for three of us and two carts for $33. The prices vary by day and time, naturally, but it's a great deal of you book online. The course is a nine hole course, but you play it through twice. There are an incredible amount of deer on the course. Several times they just stand in the fairway while you play through. We also saw some hawks and a jack rabbit. Kind of a change from metropolitan courses. The course is near Lago Vista, so it is a little drive from the Austin area. For the price, it can't be beat. The fairways were in good shape and the greens were very fast. The staff was very nice and the feel of the course is relaxed and very inviting. There is no stuffiness here, just friendly and fun golfing. read more

As much as I liked playing this course the one time I did I never will again. I was told they were too busy for me to play and that they didn't have any carts. Clearly 10+ carts outside. About 8 cars in the parking lot And open tee times on their website. asked if I could walk the course and was told it would be another 4 hours at least before I could. 9 hole course that has groupons available on groupon now almost daily it seems. Its a par 36 and frankly its not that easy due to the very difficult, hard as a rock, sloped greens. The greens are not good and very difficult to putt. Landing pin high is not a good idea on this course. The grass in the fairways is not great either, grass missing often. Course has nice views, price awesome, pace of play quick. Cost less than 20 bucks usually, good place to bring a junior. Clubhouse really small, but fine for what it is. driving range short for big hitters, but ok to warmup. read more

I purchased a Groupon for my girlfriend and I to play a round of golf. From a novice's perspective, the golf course was pretty ok, with the map a wee-bit hard to follow (we ended up going from the 2nd to the 6th hole, unsure of where we had to properly turn to get to the 3rd). My poor review has nothing to do with the golf course, however, but their poor attitude and customer service. At first, I almost wrote it off as, Well, they probably know I don't know the first thing about golf, especially since I'm coming in with a Groupon, so maybe they didn't want to take the time to show me around. But you know what? NO. There were several things that occurred that are simply unacceptable. 1. When making my appointment, I was merely asked, What time would you like to come in? I asked, what would be the best time. No suggestions were offered. Would it have really killed you to suggest, "Well, noon-time is the worst time to go golfing, with the heat and all, so I would recommend mornings or late afternoons." Me, admittedly not thinking, book for 11am, and end up burning on the course. It would have been *nice*. 2. I get there, and it reeks of cigarette smoke. We're offered a lukewarm greeting, and just asked whether we want balls or not, tees or not, clubs or not. No conversation, no asking if we've ever golfed before, no explaining of the map, how to use the golf cart, NOTHING. I feel that if you put yourself up on Groupon, you should expect a certain number of people who are coming in just-for-fun. Look ALIVE people. Please don't act like we're wasting your time, even if we are. I'm not saying the customer is always right, but when it comes to service, it pays to be friendly and accommodating. 3. On our return, we entered the cigarette-smelling entrance, and the woman was at her computer desk. We handed her our clubs and told her where we parked the cart. She said, ok, you're good to go, without making any kind of eye contact, never even getting up from her computer. And that was it. No "did you have a good game?" "thank you for coming" or "have a great day". UNACCEPTABLE. So PVGC, thank you for making me feel like me and my gf were thoroughly unwelcome in your establishment. I hope you and your snooty, unhelpful, and down-right rude attitude have a wonderful life together. read more

Great course for the price, I book on GolfNow and usually pay $11. Friendly staff and the course is maintained well. TONS OF DEER and they are not scared to stand right in the fairway or around the greens. Cheap beer in the club house and they started an open mic session on Thursday, haven't been to those but I'm sure it's laid back. read more

It's a neighborhood golf course in a retiree community that's not convenient for anyone to get to but the locals. That being said, the nine holes play nicely, no hazards, difficult greens, but certainly a good atmosphere. I've played a couple times and enjoyed each round. read more

9-hole course without any major hazards. Watching the deer along the course was fun. Some of the fairways felt narrow, but all grass was in really good condition with no areas in bad shape. This is one of my favorite courses around the Austin area. I have played almost every course around Austin and this is bu far the best priced and most laid back place to play. The view on several holes of Lake Travis is VERY relaxing, and you can even have deer come right up to you at times. I usually play during the week, and you can sometimes find 18 holes plus a cart for under $15. Unlike most cheaper courses, Point Venture is actually kept up with EXTREMELY well. I do not think that I have ever played here when the greens are not in tip top condition. I highly recommend this course to any beginning golfer as well as all experienced golfers. I"ve played golf at Point Venture 4 or 5 times a year for the past 20 years. It has always been a good value offering a challenging round with great views and its the hill country lots of wildlife to enjoy. With all the new courses that have been built in central texas over the past 20 years we still frequent Point Venture theres not another course quite like it. Dear Misty C. I read your review and thought to myself - wow - she can't be talking about Point Venture today. And I was right. The course you reviewed is now several years older but with a new and younger staff than you were exposed to. The community of PV, which is admittedly a long way off the beaten path, has seen fit to turn over their course to a golfer who makes his profession as a PGA Professional. Justin Orbin has come into PV with a vision to make this course the best 9 hole course if not in just Central Texas, but in the state as a whole. He has done this by working with the residents to revamp the course by clearing out tangled growth around the course. Reinvigorating the greens by removing excess foliage which led to putting surface issues and setting the course up as a 9 hole par three course as well. But he hasn't stopped there. Justin has reshaped the golfing community at PV into what is now a proud group of golfers who can take pride in their course. He has redesigned the pro shop and brought events to Point Venture like they've never had. The staff are friendly and are invested in seeing that you have the best golfing experience as possible. If you need some sharpening of your skills, this course has the lessons for you. In addition, Point Venture has several different tournaments each year for all skill levels to participate in. All of these events can be enjoyed by members and non-members alike. Saying all of that, the course is still challenging for a 9 hole course. The drive off of #9/18 is a tough shot to make as is the drive at 2/11 where too short of a drive makes your approach difficult and a drive to long gives you fits coming in from the right. The fairways are tight in all the right spots and four of the tee boxes do not even give you a hint of where the green may be. It is a nice drive to get to Point Venture, but once you're there you will not regret the trip. As I always say, watch out for the sand on the back nine. P.S. I do not live in the PV community nor am I a member. I have, however, been playing at PV for a number of years and I know of the people whom Misty C. speaks - they were not altogether pleasant most of the time. Saying that - they did keep the course running long enough until newer, fresher and friendlier attitudes were able to come in and change the course of...well...the course. :-D read more
