3.5 stars! This place literally saved the day my last trip out to LA! I was tasked to find bbq pork skewers for new years eve celebration. Unfortunately, everyone else in LA had the same idea so every filipino spot has sold out!! I ran across the street here as i called ahead and thankfully they just finished cooking a batch! I bought it all on the spot! This place is like a standard turo turo ( hence the name point point) place with stuff on lunch line cafeteria steam trays that you choose from. Also got cebuchon ( cebu style roasted pork belly) which is not common at these types of places. looked a little dry on the outside but was tender inside. Wow a hidden gem located off of Santa Monica / Vermont this Filipino spot has a nice setup where you could order different dishes. I felt a little out of place since it was my second time ever going to a Filipino restaurant and I didn't really know the names of the dishes but the employees were very friendly. We order to-go or delivery from Point Point often. The food is very solid, delicious and well made. I've visited the store before and the interior is best as a lunch spot or weeknight dinner since they have humble, simple seating and ambiance. It is clean and comfortable inside though. They do sell a lot of great food and some groceries though, so it's wonderful to have them in the neighborhood, cooking great Filipino food when we're too busy to cook. They're one of my favorite Sunday morning visits or delivery spots. I only wish that they pivot from using styrofoam take out boxes since that stuff isn't great for the environment, but I also know their hot and often greasy-delicious food need solid containers. A basic turo turo that's been around since the 80s, as someone told me. It's probably one of the pioneers of Filipino Fast Food. I like their catchy name :). The place is small but it's good for take out. Food is pretty decent but be careful with the prices when you start adding options. read more

Visited 5/5/2017 We saw an article of Filipino places to eat in the neighborhood, so we decided to try out the ones that we have not visited. Plenty of shared parking in the plaza. When we walked in, it wasn't busy because they were going to close in less than an hour. They had some packaged desserts/junk food that looked good. The food is laid out cafeteria style. I took a quick peek at the hot food while the kids were looking at the desserts. I knew right away that the kids were not going to eat this food. To me, the food looked "normal", but I have seen Filipino food in other restaurants where it looked more appetizing. The kids and I are more use to my moms Filipino cooking which has no fat and not floating in oil. She removes all the fat. Sure enough, as soon as the kids saw the food, they had this look of horror and disappointment. They then looked at me and I could read their look of "you are kidding, right?!?! We aren't going to eat here, are we?!?!" I shuffled them out of the restaurant. Said my Thank You's and off we went to check out another Filipino restaurant in the neighborhood. We organized a tour to Old Historic Filipinotown. This place was recommended so we decided to give this place a shot. Here was our experience on a Sunday morning. AMBIANCE: Parking: It's in a plaza and its pretty big. We didn't have any issues but if so you have a few more places with Seating: Seating is all inside with the setup for groups of 2-4 people. It can house about 40 people. Feels: You're in K-Town area so you're semi-close to things to do (driving wise). It's not in the boujeeiest side of town but still a community filled place. As for the restaurant itself, it's pretty simple with all the standard Filipino eats and drinks. A restroom is provided if needed. It seems like a scene for a lot of locals (older and younger generation - it's close to Los Angeles Community College). Generally a great place if you want something on the go. FOOD: BBQ Pork (Recommend) Saucy sweet and well cooked. I'm a sucker for barbecue pork so it's hard to be critical with this. Lechon (Recommend) It's hard to knock lechon.... hot and fresh out of the kitchen or not, you can't go wrong. Lumpia (Recommend) I enjoy the miniature size and the fair portions of meat. Savory and crunchy. Add a little sweet and sour sauce for some extra masarap-ness (delicious). Tomato & Salted Egg Salad (A-Ok) Not one of my favorite dishes to begin with but it is what it is in its natural form, salty. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Tita Becky and her staff know what's up. Attentive, quick, and friendly. We requested for a kamayan style (banana leaves placed with a medley of food placed above it) and they kindly accommodated, (we notified them ahead of time ofcourse). TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. The price is reasonable and the food choices were plentiful. It's not artisan but it definitely has a pleasing homestyle feel to it. The employees there provided friendly professional service. I'm very tempted to give it 5 stars but I feel like its too soon but based on first impressions, good signs point to this joint. I'm a big filipino food fan and I'm glad I've discovered Point Point Joint as I've just moved up to the Hollywood area and I'm used to getting my filipino cravings satisfied in West Covina. Located down the street from Kaiser, I'm going to drop by here after every appointment I have from now on, or whenever I have a craving for lechon kawali. Parking: This is located in a plaza with plenty of free parking. I got the Point-Point combo which comes with two entrees, rice/pancit, and a side of soup FOR LESS THAN $11!! Check in on Yelp for a free Sago at Gulaman! Lechon Kawali: 5/5 Crispy, porky, just so delicious. Comes with the sauce as well which is sweet and savory! Pork Adobo: 5/5 Salty, slightly sour, lots of fatty and lean pieces. I got some cartilage as well but personally I don't mind it and I just keep chomping. Sinigang: 5/5 Comes as part of the combo in a small cup and it's... typical. But what more can you ask for? Has pieces of fish in it too. I am super pleased with this place and I'm definitely coming back. The service was amazing and the ladies behind the counter are so nice and patient! So glad to find a filipino spot that delivers when I'm too lazy to cook or buy ingredients. I've had already following ordered here: Lechon Kawali, Tocino, Kaldareta, and a halo halo. I'm honestly not a fan of the Kaldareta. It tasted to salty and dry to my liking. The tocino and lechon kawali have always been great though. I have yet to drive to the restaurant to dry their other dishes since the delivery menu is a little limited to the usual Filipino dishes everyone knows. So for now, I'll give you guys 4 stars till I get a chance to try my favorite Filipino dishes (pancit Malabon, beef mechado, and Kare Kare). read more

Went into Turo Turo Joint to get my fix for something extremely porky, meaty, fatty to satisfy that primal urge to be a carnivore which strikes me once in a while since I usually am an omnivore with major emphasis on vegetables & fruits. So today I went from being a meek omnivore to a freaking, aggressive carnivore with sharp nails out & baring even sharper fangs walking into Turo Turo knowing I wanted their Lechon Kawali. Lechon Kawali is not for the faint hearted already loaded down with tons of artery clogging cholesterol which in reality I am. Lechon Kawali is primal food that probably dates back to the origin of the Pilipino culture from thousands of years ago when the brave Malay peoples dispersed from some point in Southeast Asia and went as far west as Madagascar off the coast of Africa, as far east as Rapa Nui or Easter Island and the Hawai'ian Islands. This was quite an accomplishment considering this was done about 2000 years ago. To those adventurous, ancient Malay mariners, taking a boat to go to the Philippines was like taking a bus ride. The one important passenger besides humans was an animal most prized for its sweet meat, and the ability of this animal to be able to eat a wide range of food to be able to survive the passage over thousands of miles of open water.....This was the pig, swine, hog. To this day, I believe that the Philippino culture still reveres and has perfected the cooking of Pork to emphasize its more wild, feral, gamier flavour that satisfies the truly carnivorous. Turo Turo which means Point, Point in Tagalog so in Turo Turo Joint all you have to do is point to the already prepared foods to order what you want. It is a very early form of "slowly cooked" fast food and is certainly superior to what is offered in such American fast food places such as Carl's Jr., Chick Fil-A, McDonnald's or other such ilk. A Lechon Kawali is in principle, a very simple dish. Slaughter a pig, cut it up into larger pieces, throw the meat into a vat of lard, and let it fry in a vat of its own fat. The French would call this a Confit when food is allowed to cook in its own juices, but Pilipinos were doing this more than two thousand years ago way before the establishment of France. At Turo Turo, the Lechon is a multi-layer taste sensation. Try the top layer where the skin is crisp and the underlying fat adds a luxurious, fatty oiliness. The second layer is meat but somehow slightly charred so the meat is like a dry, shredded jerky. The inner most meat is moist, soft, almost creamy in places with a pork scent that will set carnivores into a frenzy as though they are sharks going in for the kill. For $7.40 you get a generous helping of this enchanted porcine wonder in a large styrofoam cup covered with aluminum foil. Yes, Turo Turo as the name suggests is a proud-to-be-downhome JOINT which connotes that nothing is ever going to be fancy in a tres haute cuisine manner or fashion. Just take the stuff you order from Turo Turo and gussify it at home in some good china, and tastefully garnish with some nasturtium flowers or some fancy herbs if you want to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Also, they included a small cup of a brown thickened sweet liver sauce, Mang Tomas, which I enlivened at home by adding my own puree of fresh Jalapeno pepper & garlic in Japanese rice vinegar. This added the needed gastrique as well as a hot spiciness that went well with the oily, meaty, meat heavy Lechon. I haven't tried other foods at Turo Turo yet so I tentatively set my rating as 3+ Yelp stars. Looks as though I will have to order other foods the next time I go back to T-T. read more

I really love this place. This is comparable, if not better, than the traditional take out Filipino restaurants I've had in Cerritos and Daly City and those are pretty high bars. They rotate their menu quite a bit which is awesome. For the price, portion, and quality, it's incredible. I've been in 4 or 5 times and I've loved pretty much everything I've got-- pancit palabok with lechon, pancit bihon, crispy pata, arroz caldo, sisig and longanisa. All really, really good (ESPECIALLY THE CRISPY PATA FOR THE $16 PRICE TAG, most places will charge $20 minimum!!). Sisig is incredible here too. Only thing so far I thought was okay was the tapsilog-- flavor wise it was good and it was generous portion but the meat was a little too greasy in comparison to what I'm used to. I'd def get it if I'm hungover tho, haha. I imagine it would cute that. Everyone here is super friendly and has a great sense of humor which is a plus when you're rolling in real quick to pick something up. No joke on the portions, they will STACK your plate until you're more than full just like how my relatives do it at the family parties :) I'm down tho. Also a good place to take a friend to introduce them to more traditional Filipino food-- they have some fun and I imagine delicious items like the sisig fries (similar to carne asada fries) which I'll be sure to try. They have Filipino food in large trays that you can pick out cafeteria style (hence "point point" at what you want), but they also make sandwiches and other lunch specials that reminded me of comfort food my mom or I would make when I was a kid. It was a thrill to have a pandesal sandwich with tocino. YUM. I tried this place with my coworkers on a Saturday morning for a quick Filipino breakfast. If you're in a rush and need something fast, this is definitely the place. Quality-wise, it was not somewhere I'd want to go again. I had a simple menudo and egg plate. The menudo was super salty and the meat was hard to chew on. Definitely on the greasier side but I think that's the trend with this kind of food. My sunny side egg tasted like egg so I can't complain. But my rice was extremely HARD. I could barely eat it cuz I felt like it wasn't completely cooked or they didn't add enough water to the batch. It's the easiest item on my plate and they messed it up. I also had a cantaloupe drink and that tasted fine. It wasn't too sweet and I did want a second cup for the drive home. My family and I have been going to this establishment since I was a kid and lost interest for the past decade or so but today was a game changer. The flavors and experience today reminded me of why this place is a staple for Filipino food in Los Angeles. I hope and pray they continue to do well and succeed in all their endeavors. I've been coming here on and off now and decided I really like to eat here. They have a good selection of entrees and the Filipino breakfast is hearty. This morning, I came to get breakfast. They had choices like longganisa which is a sweet sausage, tosino, a sweetish bacon, daing ng bangs which is a fried fish, beef tapas which is sliced beef with onions and chicken adobo. You can get one of these with two scoops of garlic fried rice and two eggs over easy. I decided to go with the chicken adobo because I felt like keeping away from pork. The owner serving me really loaded me up on the chicken adobo which I appreciated. He was very friendly and joked that it would be $10 and if I wanted coffee, it was another $10. We both had a good laugh and they charged me $5.75 which included coffee AND gave me a small side bowl of tangy soup. What a score!! The meal was excellent as I enjoy this type of breakfast tremendously! I enjoyed my meal while watching a Filipino game show which was like charades with some Filipino celebrities which is manny times corny but somewhat entertaining. I've also come for lunch and the food here is tasty. I'll probably make this one of my go-to spots for fast food Filipino cuisine in the area. read more
