In October 2026, McDonald's started their Monopoly promotion. I was able to get the Monopoly pieces at this location and other's so far but had to order some things I don't usually get in order to get the game pieces. On this day, I ordered one coffee with a cold cream, sugar packets, and a stirrer on the app that qualifies for a game piece. I needed a coffee in the afternoon and it was lunch time. I got there ahead of schedule so I can anticipate a lunch line. About 10 minutes later, I go through the drive through, state my mobile order code and got my recipient. Here is where the trouble occurs. When I got my coffee in the second window, all I got was a coffee in one of their regular cups with no game piece. I tried to call their server back but she walked away. People behind me where honking their horns so I had to leave as I had to be somewhere in about 30 minutes. I ordered through the mobile app and they can't get my order right. Where is my Monopoly game piece? I think the employees of this McDonald's is keeping them for themselves so they can win the prizes that the customers should get. Also, why is only certain large sized items eligible for the Monopoly game pieces. More profits for the company in order to get people fatter than they already are? Boycott this McDonald's at Temple and Alvarado. Besides, it's not a safe place to be at night or early morning as the homeless camp there and beg for money at every turn of the drive thru. This the smallest Mickey D I've ever been to! The area is fairly down-trodden and kind of rough, judging from the locals. The new promotion is sweet honey and jalapeños on crispy chicken sandwiches, which sounds good, but too hot for me. The service was slow, but understaffed, so I'll let that pass. This review is for management not so much for the customers. We can all see the 2 star rating so I don't need to tell the public that this place sucks. I wanted to let management know that they have only one person at this location that actually cares. Francisco is the only team member that was helpful. Everybody else ignored me and the other customers. Even the manager as he walked by multiple times ignoring everyone waiting. Francisco helped me multiple times. With my order, getting me ketchup and later a refill and cleaning the table (even though another team member said he would handle it and didn't.) all the tables were filthy. I think it's important for people to be recognized for working hard so I'm making it a point to mention Francisco's name multiple times so management knows that he's taking care of the customers. I have gone to the drive thru at this McDonalds 4 or 5 times but I won't do it again. The food and the service are okay (about what you would expect from a McD) but my complaint is with their drinks. I always order diet coke and it is always awful. I don't know if they buy an off brand and call it diet coke or if they never clean the spigot on their machine. But whatever the case, the diet coke is awful. I don't know about the other drink flavors but I won't try this McD again. I will drive to the next one which is about a mile away. I generally dislike the word "terrible," and I truly hate making complaints. However, after an unpleasant experience at this particular McDonald's location today, I feel compelled to use both of those terms. Typically, at large corporate chains, if a drive-thru employee has trouble understanding a customer's order--whether due to a faulty speaker or simply not hearing the request--they will apologize and ask the customer to pull forward to place their order in person. Furthermore, they do not get angry at the customer--they might show some signs of annoyance, perhaps, but never outright anger. Yet, the manager at this specific store--a man named Carlos--lost his temper the moment he saw me, snapping that he couldn't understand a word I was saying. He acted as if to ask, "If you can't speak English, why did you even come here?" To this day, I still cannot fathom why he was unable to understand the simple request for "4 apple pies." If it were just the young part-time staff, I wouldn't make a fuss; what's the point of getting annoyed at kids who are practically the age of your own children? They're just out there working to earn some pocket money, so there's really no need to get angry at them. However, when the person responsible for the overall management and operation of the store--the manager--works like that, it sets a poor example, and naturally, the other employees don't treat customers very well either. This is terrible and the franchise owner should feel bad. Oh no oh poor me oh no California raised the minimum during inflation and so as a F U to customers and workers we're just eliminating the cashier position even as just an option. So wait, if it my grandpa who is used to walking not driving to your location for his morning coffee and just wants to hand you a five dollar bill, he has to try and work a touch screen that will overwhelm him, beg for assistance from a worker who totally isn't going to be around, have them place the order then walk over to the now defunct cash register for that same worker to use ANYWAY and break his change ? This franchise owner can easily ( yes I've seen the financials for this location ) easily handle the raise. But whether it's him or McDonald's corporate ( fyi McDonald's is not a good business they're a real estate company who are leasing this land back to the franchisee ) implementing this, not a single one has ever asked "ok but what would be good for the customers" because a kiosk can be efficient and great and so can a mobile app, but having the human option as an option should always be the means to somewhat keeping the humanity consistent to ever changing times. If Costco can keep the hotdog at 1.50 then McDonald's can keep a cashier and still make their record profits. Those kiosks have people scratching themselves in their car and then going in and touching them. Gross. I'm all for the tech the kiosks the app but keep a damn cashier as an option it's not that hard stop alienating your older breakfast crowd , everyone sees what you're doing with this and no one asked , but oh no you got offended and cut hours ( I confirmed with 3 employees ) and cut positions when you absolutely did not have to. Been to this location many times and I think it's getting worse. Fries were cold. My Kit Kat McFlurry was not mixed and had almost no Kit Kat. Service was kinda funny, they had some young girl at the window giving people their food but also making her tell people that paper bags are now 10 cents. Like after we had already paid...so if we didn't want to pay for the bag at that point they would just hand you the food items individually...thats ridiculous...for a Drive-Thru!!!.
