I recently visited Pooh's and had a fantastic evening. The cozy, dimly lit atmosphere with exposed brick and soft jazz created the perfect vibe for unwinding. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and quick--my old fashioned was perfectly balanced with just the right smokiness. Craft beer selection impressed with local options, and cocktails felt creative yet classic. Prices are great for the quality. Service stayed attentive even as it got busy. The hot blond wife and I stopped in for a burger that costs less than $19 yesterday and we were very glad we did. Two burgers + cheese curds + six chicken wings + four total beers = less than thirty bucks. Plus, the Brewers were on the TV smacking around the Seattle Mariners to stay 30 games above .500. Great bartender. Great food. Great prices and great people to talk with at the bar. A clear winner. read more

My favorite bar in the world. My go-to, regular, neighborhood bar. Kim and George, the owners, are so kind and go out of their way to make everyone's experience in Poh's rememberable. Their son, Java, also does a great job attending to all the patrons. The ambiance is top tier dive bar - from the vinyl seats, to the carpet, and the decor that makes me giggle every time I see it. Whenever anyone goes to Door County I beg them to stop here. Love their Bloody Mary (ask for the olives) as well as the Poh's special, and their chili. read more

My wife had chicken noodle soup and a hamburger which she said was very good. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with 2 fried eggs on top. It was great with lots of sausage. They weren't busy so the service was fast. The restaurant is light and clean read more

We absolutely loved this place! During our two night stay in Door County, we visited Poh's about 5 times. Every bartender was so friendly. The locals there were also awesome! They have some fun bar games (quarters game, darts) that you can play if you'd like, but we also had a great time just sitting and chatting! The drinks were strong and affordable. The service was quick. They do have food but we did not try this this past time. Maybe we will next time. Definitely check out this place if you are in Sturgeon Bay! read more

I'm a sailor breaking out a ship on the Great Lakes. I've been coming to poohs since 1992. I've never been treated poorly until tonight. The red headed bar maid with tattoos treated me like jerk because she was busy and overwhelmed. I had been respectful all night. I was tipping her HEAVILY, because I understood what wait staff go through. But when I asked for a younger crew member's credit card so he could cash out, she snipped at me and told me how busy she was. I only asked once. I was polite. I told her she didn't need to speak to me that way; and then she lied to her co-worker / boyfriend and told him "I asked 12 times" to cover her ass for treating me poorly. She lied. I loved poohs. It's been a tradition for years. Never had a problem until tonight because I'm not a drunk. I deserved an apology. Update, me and my crew tried to go back two nights later. I was willing to forget the whole incident. But when I went to order a drink, the boyfriend/ bartender of the red headed female bartender tender DEMANDED an apology before he'd let me buy drinks for my crew. I said I had no reason to apologize and said we should just talk this out. He couldn't listen and lied and told me He cut me off the other night because "I was drunk and abusive to the female bartender" I told him there are 12 people in this bar right now that would all stand up and tell you that this behavior would never come from me. My wife runs a not for profit martial arts school and teaches women's self defense classes for the community for free, THAT I VOLUNTEER AT as an assistant. I would NEVER use abusive language towards a woman or anyone for that matter. The owner of poohs needs to fire these two trouble makers because they literally cost him hundreds of dollars in the past few nights just by treating me poorly. I came in for lunch after several years away. Not much has changed. The Poh's specil is as good as ever. This double decker burger consisting of a beef patty and a brat patty grilled to perfection, is only $5.50. It comes with condiments you add yourself. I also ordered a bowl of chili for $4.50. The chili has a good chili flavor and is friendly to even the nost sensitive palette. You can cet hot sauce if you want a kick. The chili has chopped up spaghetti in it as well as beans. It comes with oyster crackers. Not bad for $10.00. The bar itself is a piece of nostalgia from pubs gone bye. They of course have a pool table, 2 dart boards, and a pinball machine. There are also a few electronic games. There are 5 or 6 domestic tap beers. They have a pretty complete bar with a good selection of top shelf liquor. There is one bottle labeled only "mystery shot $1.00". They wont tell you what it is, but it could be anything. This quaint little place is well worth a mid-week lunch stop for a tssty burger and some good chili. read more

We love going to Poh's when we are in Sturgeon Bay. Last night we came in late. There were about 20 - 15 people in the bar. It was clear from the moment we sat down the female bartender was not happy it was so busy so late. She was unfriendly and border line rude. Made me wonder why she was a bartender. It is unclear to me whether the name of this dive bar is pronounced "Pooh" or "Poh". The sign above the door has an ambiguous fat letter 'o', the menu lists items like "Pooh's special" (a hamburger patty and a brat patty on a buttered bum), and the bartender was wearing a t-shirt for an event sponsored by "Poh's Corner Pub" sans-fat-'o'. I might have querired one of the two dudes working the bar on a weekday early afternoon about the bar's name had they not been too busy to stop by our corner of the bar and check up on our dining experience. I mean, there were, like eight other people in the bar at the same time as us. Sorry, sorry: I don't mean to hate. It's just that it took them thirty minutes to make our food (a hamburger and fries for the boyf, chicken tenders for me) and the bartender serving us did not inquire as to whether we would like second drinks during our long wait. The grill is opposite the far corner of the bar, so we spent much of the time looking at our server's back as he prepared food for other folks; it would have been easy enough for him to turn around and give us the "hey, y'all okay on drinks?" look; he looked so busy (confusingly: was EVERYONE ordering food at the same time? the bar was quite empty!) that I didn't have the heart to interrupt him. Another reason for the two stars: I didn't see him wash his hands once during thirty plus minutes of food preparation. I know it's a dive bar, but come on, folks, that's gross. So why two stars instead of one? I have a soft spot in my heart for places with character that don't cater to tourists in tourist towns like Sturgeon Bay. And the chicken tenders I was eventually served ($4, no fries) were pipping hot and FREAKING DELICIOUS even though they came out of a freezer bag and were cooked in a time-travelling machine look-alike next to the grill. So I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying out Po(o)h's. Maybe you will have better service than we did! read more

This place is everything a neighborhood bar should be! Always amazing service, even when busy. No frills, cold beer, fun games, good music, but you can still hear conversations. In regards to the person who wrote the bad review about the curtain, I was there that night and they were acting ridiculous with a bad attitude and no establishment should have to put up with crap like that. Respect property that is not yours and be respectful to others and maybe you wouldn't be asked to leave. Obviously, it is much easier to pass blame to a bartender and post childish insults than for people to take responsibility for their own actions. read more

I love me a good dive bar! While in the area was looking for a decent burger and a quick drink and thank you Yelp community for your help! It's definitely a favorite spot for the older locals as it was fairly busy in the middle of the afternoon. Besides sitting up at the bar, there are a few tables and chairs throughout the bar. I also love all the kitchy signs all over the walls like, "Hippies Use Side Door" and "My Best Friend ran off with my wife. I sure miss him." lol. The menu here is simple and small like hamburgers, chicken, or ham and cheese sandwiches. It's fairly cheap, ranging from $3-7. You can also get fries, cheese curds and other fun fried food...and of course pizza. The kitchen is right behind the bar, so you can see them cooking it. For beer, don't expect anything too fancy. Mostly domestics, but was pleased to get Spotted Cow on tap in a frosty mug. One of my favorite things was overhearing a bartender (who I believe was an owner) saying how he wants to get off the reviews sites because it's too much to manage. Then he said "we can't get off of Yelp though, we have too many good reviews. I have no idea how we got those." Poh's corner pub is a local favorite hang out. We decided to stop in for a burger for lunch. I decided on the Poh's special which is a regular burger party and a brat party served on a buttered bun with cheese. We also ordered a side of fries. The burgers were cooked perfectly over an open flame grill, and the fries were baked to a golden crispiness. The bartender/cook was friendly and engaging. It truly is a corner tap with tremendous bar food. It is about as unpretentious as it gets. The bartenders are friendly as are the owners. A great vibe that has a hamburger that can compete with Joe Rouers - while being less expensive. I am not sure if it matters how to pronounce the name. Also the place is not in a hurry - it may take 30 mins to get your food - it is a "chill" place. So if you expect your food right away like you may get in a bigger city you are in the wrong place. A spirited vibe, with tremendous bar food where the service and clientele are extremely friendly. As long as you are not in a hurry, don't start waving your cash around at the bartenders/service people you should have a great experience. read more

The food is very reasonable and very good. We stopped on a Sunday night, there was only one person waiting on customers and cooking, but he kept up very well. Great dive bar with cheap beer! Beers on tap were $1.50, Spotted Cow was $2.50 (heck yeah!). Sadly they were only offering frozen pizza when we came by, otherwise some cheese fries and burgers would have gone down for sure. They bartender lady is a no-fuss kind of girl, and I loved it. She makes her drinks strong (people actually asked for more soda to be added lol). They oddly had a lot of flies crawling around which I thought was strange and kind of unsanitary, but it could have been a lot worse. This is my favorite hidden gem in Sturgeon Bay. Their menu is very simple, but what they make they make right. The classic burger is my favorite. Very similar to Krolls, for all you Green Bay folks. We usually stop here a few times a summer, and have never had a bad experience. Bartenders are always friendly with a bit of character. If you're looking for a classic Wisconsin townie bar experience, look no further! Poh's is fun, and the drinks are cheap. Very cheap. They also have the "mystery shot" which I believe is just a bottle into which they pour all the little bit of booze that's left at the end of the night. It's $1, if I remember correctly. Being a small town bar, it opens early and people are hanging out here all day. You can stop in for burgers and fries, grilled right behind the bar. This is real bar food on which all others are based. It does not disappoint! At night it's a fun place to hang out. Not too crazy (usually) and they have a great jukebox. Staff don't wear masks, did not know whether to seat ourselves or not, ended up standing around awkwardly, seating ourselves, waiting for 10 minutes for some direction or for someone to help (or ask if we needed help). We love Poohs!! It's a stop that we MUST make every time we're in Door County... The atmosphere is very laid back - they have a machine where you can play music, which is very fun, especially while playing pool. George and Kim (the owners) are so nice, great conversationalists, and really run the place well. Drinks: good price, cold beer Food: The Pooh's burgers are out of this world! They're quite simple, I can't pin point it.. but you can't have just one! The bun is toasted, buttery and adds to the all around goodness! The fries are also very good, not fried, but very tasty! This place is pretty cool. My husband, my son and I went for lunch. The waitress was super attentive. We ordered pizza, cheese curds, and a burger. My husband said the burger was fresh and the meat had lots of flavor. The thin crust pizza tasted fresh and had lots of sauce like I like it. Great bar!! My husband and I were looking for a hometown, local bar and we found it. Beer on tap prices were great!! The bartender was a feisty, no nonsense, pregnant woman and we LOVED her. DIVE Not too friendly. Ultra Small glasses of beer. Fat bartender ate his chicken tenders all through my short time there for a burger. He picked his nose, licked his fingers and adjusted his nuts. What a pig. Seriously overrated joint. Oh, and after you order a burger, he gets it from a refrigerator behind the bar, no glove and hands it off to the cook. My group stopped here after a big day of hiking and all we wanted was a burger. Yelp totally stood by us and we loved the classic bar food burger. They're made on a grill behind the bar. It was exactly what you can expect from a bar burger too. It is a basic beef patty, you can get cheese and it comes with pickles. They have other topping but you have to ask and frankly is that the point of a bar burger? Just take your pickles add ketchup and eat it. Also, I asked the bartender what the true name of the bar is and this is the story: It has been in the family for over 30 years. It used to be Pooh's but now it Poh's with a long 'O' sound all based on which member of the family owned it. The bartender was bar friendly. Came here on our first night. It's a townie bar, but that's all we were looking for. I asked for 2 bud lite's, and he said $3.00. I thought he said $3 each, but no, it's $1.50 each, and that's the actual price. i haven't paid anything that low since college specials, so instantly it's one of my spots.
