Darcy has been going to Pocopson Veterinary Station since she was 9 weeks old. We live in Philly now and have an emergency vet here, but PVS's service and care has been so outstanding that I can't imagine branching out to another vet for regular checkups. I took Darcy in the other day for her booster shots and as always was very pleased with the experience as a whole. We were greeted with a big smile by the tech working the desk and didn't wait more than 5 minutes before being escorted to the back. I never thought that someone else could "baby talk" to Darcy as much as I do, but I was proven well matched when Dr. Amy Kidd and the tech (her name has slipped my mind) walked in. Dr. Kidd got down on her knees to greet and shower Darcy with attention and admiration. Darcy's whole demeanor had changed when we walked into the office (mine would too if I knew I was about to be poked and prodded), so I was impressed when her tail perked up a little for Dr. Kidd. Dr. Kidd took her time to explain and answer my questions thoroughly. She even dressed Darcy in an adorable Easter bandana for being such a good girl during the exam. I was relieved when Darcy was all pants and tail wags by the end of the exam. I think the cost was reasonable ($160 for exam fees, tests, booster shots). Personally, receiving this kind of quality service for a good price makes the trek back to West Chester worth it for my pup. read more

Two stars only for the doctors -- they did a great job and took my pup in for a last-minute treatment, which I truly appreciate. Multiple experiences which offended me drove me to find a different provider for my fur babies. I brought my dog in for a spay, and she came home with an area of bleeding abrasion from clippers and three bleeding toenails -- none of which were mentioned to me. The nurse insisted the cut was just a "razor burn" and "not a big deal." She got defensive because the nail trimming was "a favor." My dog has clear toenails, so it's kinda hard to miss. This care strikes me as substandard. No apology, no explanation -- and when we returned for a follow up to make the situation better, the office felt hostile. We switched vets right after, and it felt the best thing for my dog. Two months later, I received an invoice for a bill I had already paid. When I called for instructions to clear up the error, the attitude was like a brick wall. Impolite and unhelpful. A secretary was dismissive, saying the burden of clearing it up was on me, and to "check the bank statements." Overall, an upsetting experience. I would not recommend this clinic. read more

I wish we lived in PA since you are fortunate to have such a vet! Dr. Kidd was featured in a Washington Post article on taking in senior dogs. The article mentioned :"For the past eight years, Kidd and her husband have been housing senior dogs -- many of whom were considered "hospice dogs" with a life expectancy of a month or two. In several cases, Kidd explained, they ended up living three or four years longer.". Given what an amazing soul she is for taking in elderly dogs, she truly sounds like an amazing vet! read more

Our dog recently went through cancer diagnosis and surgery. Dr. Paul had to climb in the back of our minivan to do his follow exam because he refused to get out. He had a difficult time with the cone and the entire staff was incredibly kind with every phone call and email. Dr. Kidd was sitting on the floor with him cuddling him for his final check up....her exact words were, "It's so nice to get the snuggles from Ashes." She truly cares about his physical and emotional well being. You won't get better care for your pet anywhere.....and emotional support for you too. read more

I have taken my dogs to Pocopson Vet sparingly because they have not needed much attention but recently one of my dogs a white German Shepherd who we love dearly finally had to be put to rest. We were treated with the utmost respect and more importantly our dog was treated with the utmost respect. First of all, let me state that Pocopson Vet Station's (Pocopson) motto of "Providing your furry friend with modern, high quality care --- in a warm country vet atmosphere . . ." could not be a more accurate description of what I have experienced through the years with Dr. Amy Kidd and her staff. I have a 13.5 year old husky who has been a patient of Dr. Kidd's since she was a pup . Over the years, there have been acute and chronic conditions that have required intensive vet care and monitoring. Pocopson has been there with the high quality vet care AND support from the veterinarians, vet techs & receptionists. This have been evident and appreciated in the onsite lab, digital x-rays & surgical services, etc. I have had to use. This was never more apparent or appreciated than a few weeks ago when my "furry girl" started to breath very differently during the night. In the morning (Saturday), there were other signs that things weren't right and I thought I might be at the point were I would have to make the "decision" that every loving pet owner dreads, but realizes is best for their furry family member. I took her over to Pocopson (without an appointment) and Dr. Kidd took a look at her as well as a history of the past 24 hrs. or so. After taking x-rays and sharing them with me and some other "vet stuff" she explained the 2-3 things she thought it might be. Needless to say, one of the diagoses would have made the "decision" for me as my furry girl was not a good surgical candidate based on her overall health. Dr. Kidd was not completely convinced that the "worst case scenario" was truly what was going on and so she did a few more tests whilel I was there...and I was SO GLAD she did. It turned out to be serious, life-threatening condition if it was not properly addressed over the next few days, BUT it was something that was manageable and curable. Knowing my girl was going to need extra-special monitoring and care, Dr. Kidd offered and I agreed to have Dr. Kidd take her home over the weekend for the active care she would need. Monday came around and I was back again with my furry girl (and some additionals medicines) after a weekend of intravenous fluids and medications courtesy of Dr. Kidd and the staff Pocopson Vet Station. The thorogh and thoughtful attention that my furry girl received that weekend is just a hightened example of what I have come to appreciate from everyone at Pocopson Vet Station over the years. read more

I started going here because a dog I adopted was already a client. Once Dr. Kidd overprescribed a steroid and I ended up taking him to another vet (and spent thousands) to help him get over the side effects. The other vet said he should have had half the dose she prescribed. Another time I had a hard time getting his seizure meds because she wrote the prescription wrong and insisted that I shouldn't need a refill yet. The pharmacy tech at CVS was amazing and called to straighten things out. On top of all of this "wonderful" care, they are about 30% more expensive than other vets in the area. I will never go back and strongly recommend that you never take your pets there. read more

Amy Kidd is bubbly and outgoing and great for basic shots, heartworm medications and annual checkups. However, I would not recommend Pocopson Vet Station for anything outside annual check-ups and flea & tic products. In my opinion, she completely misdiagnosed our Weimaraner's condition which was a bulging lump the size of a tennis ball on his side which developed overnight. When we first took him there we asked if it could be a spider bite. "Oh no", said Dr. Kidd, "it's blunt trauma", then she thought it was a mast cell tumor and even did a biopsy. When the large lump started to ooze blood, Dr. Kidd suggested immediate surgery. An associate of hers (no longer there) performed the surgery. Dr. Kidd's prognosis, a venomous bite. After two weeks of treatment, we asked at each visit if it could be a spider bite. She lives close to us and even stated that she never had a problem with spiders until she moved here. After Augustus' surgery, we took him back the next day. She took the bandage off and said "oh no, that's not good". She sent us to HER VET for immediate care. After HER VET ordered an ultra sound of our beloved, Augustus, we reviewed in the ultrasound report which clearly states that drains from the surgery at Pocopson vet were improperly placed. A second major surgery was performed by an expert (her vet) who told us that his condition was the result of a brown recluse spider bite. We feel that if we had taken Augustus to HER VET the first time, he would not have died from a blood clot. Over $5000 in vet fees and he died. Two and a half years later, we still grieve the loss of our baby boy, Augustus, only 4 1/2 years old. There is No Justice for Augustus at Pocopson Vet. read more

For 2 months (3 visits and multiple medications) we came to know that our dogs were misdiagnosed. Pocopson was treating for a skin allergy. They had sarcoptic mites and by the time we realized this they had been feasting for 2+ months. Any vet should be able to diagnose mites, and their miss is of great concern. I give details below for those who wish to read. Pocopson apologized but after 15 years at Pocopson Vet, I have transferred their care. At the very same time, our 2 dogs developed flakey skin and itched a great deal. For 2 months we were told that it was an allergy and the source unknown. I followed all directions and during those 2 months, the dogs were examined 3 times and each time I left with another product to try. The Vet applauded me for doing a great job caring for them. She told me that it is labor intensive but these allergies can emerge later in life an I may have to bathe them 3 times per week for the rest of their life. I'm pretty furious now, as the mites have spread. I spend hours each day washing bedding and treating the animals. It will be weeks before we are rid of them. What really bothered me was the lack of communication among doctors. If one doctor found it so difficult to diagnose, why didn't the doctors collaborate? When the other doctor reviewed the case, she admitted mites should have been the diagnosis and subsequently gave us medication to treat the cats at no charge. When we did seek the opinion of another vet, they immediately did a skin test (scape down until it bleeds). This is a quick test and there is no additional care for the site of the scrapping. In a matter of minutes they found the problem and we began the treatment regimen. Pocopson had prescribed steroids, but steroids exasperate the mites problem. We took them off the steroids, kept the antibiotics, and started the first dose of Revolution. They are on the mend but I am still miffed at why we were on the trail of some obscure skin allergy. We are not sure of the source of the mites, but think it may have been contact with a stray dog or squirrels, rabbits, fox that frequent the property. read more

Dr. Kidd has been seeing my current dog for the past 5 years and has always provided top care. When meeting Hannah she always treats her like one of her own, and allows her to calm down before being examined. She also makes sure Hannah still "loves" her after getting her shots or her nails clipped! She is genuinely caring and compassionate and obviously loves animals. She will take the time that you need to talk to you about issues and concerns. Although the practice is in a historic building, it is modern, fully equipped, and staffed by people who seem to really care about you and your animals. read more

Warning! Please please please don't take your animals here! Our cat went in for his routine grooming two weeks ago and came out with a severe brain injury and a few days later had to be put down. Most shocking is how they tried to brush it off as a "rare complication," and took absolutely no responsibility for what they did at all. Never once admitted fault and apologized. Highly unprofessional, disrespectful, deceitful, careless negligence - these are the only words I have to describe my experience. Very very sad, if you only saw the cat they gave back to us after we brought him in for a simple grooming. We don't know what happened to our cat, all we know is that the story they gave us is highly improbable according to several vets. If I had to guess I would say he stopped breathing from the sedation blocking his respiratory drive and they failed to mechanically ventilate him after several minutes so my personal opinion is that they basically told us the second part of the story and left out the part about them screwing up by letting him sit there and suffocate while they clipped his fur. But that is just my opinion, who knows what they did other than kill our cat during a grooming procedure.Think twice before bringing your pets here or your animal could end up dead like ours, I say that with all seriousness. Any vet would be better than this one, or not taking your animal to the vet at all would be better than this one, I wish we never took our poor cat here to suffer at the hands of these people in the first place. And since I am here, let me tell you about what happened several years ago at this vet. I brought in my iguana to get her nails trimmed and the vet had some assistant with no degree at all in veterinary medicine come in to clip the nails. The first toenail they clipped the lizard fought and squirmed like crazy and gnashed its mouth back and forth. I said I think your cutting too low your hurting him and she said no no its ok. So when they had clipped all but one foot I saw blood coming from all of the lizards nails! I said stop stop your clipping too low, that's enough for today. She said, "oh its ok its just a little blood, that is no big deal." Within two weeks all of the lizards claws fell out and never came back, just formed stubs where they used to be. It only has claws on one foot to this day, all the others are gone and she falls every time she tries to climb something, the last fall broke her jaw, and you guessed right I didn't bring her to this vet, just wished I did the same with our cat. It wasn't until later that I realized the person the vet sent in to do this lizard nail clipping had absolutely no training with reptiles or any training at all, no vet MD, nothing, and I trusted them that they knew what they were doing. I have never seen an animal in pain like that iguana that day, I can never forget it because I was holding her by the neck hard and letting this idiot cut the tips of her fingers off one by one. It still gets to me. Now they killed our cat, literally they killed him, and they do not feel one bit bad about it either, in fact they have been down right rude and even forced us to pay for the anesthesia that killed him!!! read more
