Also, part of the above project was to replace the sidewalk leading from the driveway to the front porch. It was only until they charged a late due invoice (of double the amount of the quoted work, I might add) and were threatened with warranted legal recourse did they finally complete the job, months after the pipe itself was replaced.

Early the next morning, I had a message from Adam B. Once I got to work, I returned the call and quickly described my issue and what I believed it to be. The first available appointment wasn't until Monday (it wasn't urgent, so I wasn't worried about going the weekend). I got my timeframe. I had a couple other appointments that day, so I ended up taking the day off so I could easily be available. I immediately liked that they told me who would be arriving - AND that was who arrived. I also liked that they use a customer portal that allows you to have some security if you pay online or to review your records. Christian arrived (there was one other person with him). It took him a couple minutes to diagnose the issue he believed it to be, and it took him not a lot longer to determine that diagnosis correct. He quoted the price, I agreed, and he got to work. After finishing the work, he determined the original issue I'd believed it to be wasn't quite needing to be addressed (but will be in the near future). We discussed options, including ways I could save a bit. Christian was personable and explained things in a way I could understand. The issue was likely caused by me, but he managed to avoid using the word "idiot" at any point. The repair was done in a timely manner. The price ended up being a bit lower than quoted. I appreciated his honesty as he very easily could have pointed me toward a repair not needing done yet. It also became obvious the last person I'd used had really only done half the job. Everything has worked beautifully since Christian finished. There are likely a couple more projects I'll tackle in the near future, and I won't hesitate to return to Grateful Plumber. The housecall was $59, but that was credited toward the repair once I decided to have them do the work. Friendly employees. Good follow-through. Fair pricing. Quality work. Problem solved. That's 5-star for me and another winner for Yelp's project feature.

Meanwhile late in the day someone from my Dad's church volunteered to come and look at the issue. The issue is fixed. I called the grateful plumber as soon as I had a chance , because of everything that is going on. The voice mail said that cancellations done in less than 24 hours would still require the service fee. I left a message and cancelled the appointment then I get a text that their service guy is on his way. I called back and talked with the owner I'm assuming and he said he is charging us a service fee anyway. That it was too late to call off his guys and that they had been holding this spot for me. To make matters worse it was like 11 pm on a Friday. Almost every plumber we called said to kiss it goodbye. But roto-rooters told us to shut off the water and don't flush any toilets and wait for them to come... they eventually sent out two absolute heroes to our house. They put a snake camera in the pipes and located the jewelry. They tried to fish it out with a coat hanger but the jewelry was close to falling over an edge and being lost again. So the man, Terry was his name, exercised expert judgment and said we would do best to came at it from underneath, through the dry wall. He said he knew exactly where it was and we don't want to give that up. (This turned out to be a genius decision and may have saved our bacon). He called another man named Juan that came out to cut the dry wall and pipes. He said he was nervous but Juan acted with pure poise under pressure. I'm talking Jordan in game six. Im talking Tom Brady down 28-3 in the SuperBowl. Hall of fame performance from Juan and Terry both. He cut as soft as possible so the jewelry wouldn't fall down. They shined a light and could see it in the pipe. It was so close to the drop! I'm talking 2 inches away from falling over a cliff. They had the clever idea of putting a drill bit right thru the middle of the jewelry to hold it in place - I mean Terry was out here making Bill Belichick level game-time decisions. They then cut the pipe and for a moment we waited with baited breath cuz we thought we lost it again. But then Juan handed it to me. We cried tears of joy. Dirty Stinking Dishonest…read more Warning to not use LD Smith.... Our experience with them began in 2024 and ended several months ago. They came to our home to replace sewer line in basement. They took out old line and installed the new line in an upward slope (all sewer lines need to be installed in a downward slope in order for waste to flow out of house). They created a situation where waste could not exit our home and we paid them over $11,000 do to this to us. We had no choice but to use another company to fix the horrible mess LD Smith made in our home. We tried and failed to recover the money we paid to LD Smith through the courts. We believe LD Smith has been to court many times before and knows exactly how to manipulate the Indiana legal system and competing contractors to get favorable outcomes for themselves. If you are unfortunate enough to call LD Smith for help, please read their contract in detail before signing and hiring them. Their contract limited our ability to recover all of what we paid them and was somewhat confusing. If you are unfortunate enough to hire LD Smith and find yourself in a similar situation, document everything be it photographs, communications, contracts, etc. Hiring an independent plumbing inspector who will help to document and collect evidence and who will testify to that evidence in court is essential. If these things are not done, there is no one and nothing else that will help you through it successfully. LD Smith treated us with condescension and disdain, denied anything was wrong with what they did in our home, and blamed us, other contractors or other issues for causing the problem they created. They did not care at all about us as customers. Our sincere warning to anyone is to not hire LD Smith. No reputable company would have you sign a contract that limits their liability. No reputable company would install sewer line that does not meet code requirements. No reputable company would treat customers the way they have treated us.
