I liked that there was a lot of trees which was surprising for the area it's in. Community seemed quite and clean. They have upgraded some apartments with modern stainless steel appliances but some have your standard white ones. They do offer an option to upgrade appliances for a fee. A good place to check out if looking for your next home! Thanks Chloe for your time and attention through the process.

The kitchen is all your basic cheap laminate. Theres crown molding that only goes through half the living room and the appliances are crap. We went through 1 microwave, 2 washers, and 3 dryers. The first two dryers killed so many of our clothes because if a shirt had screen print on it the dryer would catch it and twist it up and it would have to be yanked out between the door and the part that spins the clothes. Only the downstairs units have the hard floor and door bells. The side exit gate is always broken and it would stay open for months. There's already a transient problem in that area. You have people constantly trash diggin through the dumpsters and homeless people walking in and riding their bikes through the property. Also we've come across them sleeping on our stairs at night. No night security and tons of people without parking passes would park in the lot. My car was keyed the first year living there. Constant calls to Upland PD cuz of all the ghetto people in our building fighting each other and yelling outside at 2am. The only cameras on property are over the office. And at the gates. My car was involved in a hit and run in our parking lot and the office claims they could not release or let us watch footage of the person who did it nor would they look. So instead of being able to catch who did I I had to pay for my car to get fixed. The front call box never works. I know this because my friends dropped off my kids after school during the week and could never get in. So they would have to wait till someone let them in or came out. They didn't have maintenance for a bit so having anything fixed was a waiting game. They had someone really good running their maintenance team the first few years we were there. He was the only awesome thing about that place until I heard the manager let him go. The office staff has been a revolving door as managers have changed and staff were constantly new. No one ever answers the phone or returns your message. The last 2 years we were there they hiked the rent up 10% yearly. In this complex you have to pay for trash, water, sewer. I've lived in many other apartments and never paid these things till I moved here. Also if you move out, don't clean. They take $200 out of your deposit to pay someone to come in and clean. I'm still dealing with the office on the amount we owe after move out. Even though I paid for the days on the portal I'm still being charged for more days. Plus your utilities are two months behind. So even though we are no longer there we have to pay 2 months of utilities because of their system. Stupid! Don't recommend.

The Artisan Claremont - Rat

The Artisan Claremont

We lived at The Artisan for 7 years in two different apartments. Our first apartment (2018-2023)…read morewas the second building in from Indian Hill and was not yet renovated, but great. We were very happy there. During one particularly rainy season the ceiling leaked over the stairs but the roof was quickly repaired and it never happened again. In May 2023 we moved to a larger 4 bedroom in the building just west of the pool. We regretted this move almost immediately. In the new apartment we experienced a roach infestation and rats in the walls. Rats could be seen running around the property during the day and at night. There were also rats eating the walls inside our garage. On top of this, giant horse flies were entering our home from the attic space through a light fixture. Water pooled inside our dryer when not in use because it shared a vent with another unit next to us. Nothing could be done to fix this. It took hours and a lot of electricity to dry a single load. We experienced two major floods in our kitchen from a burst pipe almost one year apart from each other. The first was over a holiday weekend and no one responded to our plumbing emergency for hours. The remodeled new cabinetry had to be cut out and replaced and holes cut out of the wall under the sink to access very old pipes. Cardboard was placed inside to block the hole until it was repaired, however at least one rat (that we saw) managed to get into our apartment during this timeframe. The AC didn't work at all upstairs during the summer and our kids were miserable. The last thing I will mention is that the water bill was astronomically high every month. It's my opinion that there must have been leaks all over the property that renters became responsible for since all property water usage was divided between residents. Parking was limited. Once we got home from work we stayed home for the evening otherwise we would usually lose our parking space. There's no overnight parking in the city of Claremont. The property itself was quiet and peaceful. Generally safe. It's a nice place to live if you have a dog. The landscaping was always attractive and pool well maintained. The surrounding neighborhood is nice to walk in. "Luxury Apartments" definitely didn't describe our experience the last two years of living there, especially for the steep price.

I'm having a hard time believing some of these reviews are real. I've never written a review like…read morethis but I've also never lived in an apartment with such a careless leasing manager. Since moving in about 6 months ago my experience has been a nightmare dealing with Rats and huge roaches (there's been other issues but these are the biggest problems). There are rats living within my walls. The scratching and thumping coming from the bedroom walls (upstairs) keeps us up some nights. My children and I are completely disgusted, and horrified to think one of these rats will make its way into the apartment. Ricky is fully aware of my situation as I am constantly keeping him up to date with emails including videos of the sounds from my walls and photos of roaches and rats, even though I don't get a response I am still sending him emails. Pest control came out twice but the problem still persists as their only solution was to place more traps and rat poison outside of my apartment, but that doesn't stop the rats from entering into my walls. There is no sense of urgency to find the entry points and close them. I've asked what the next step is to solve the problem, no response with a solution. I finally got a response from him a couple of weeks ago after I sent yet another email about the problems still persisting and explaining that I was ready to write an honest review due to the lack of solution, and his response was him defending himself stating he has sent pest control out and that there hasn't been any recent rat activity detected on their end, sounded like he was insinuating that I'm lying. Clearly there IS recent rat activity as I am still sending new photos and videos of the rats and roaches. Pest control has sprayed my apartment, but it's done nothing for the roaches. Waking up to huge roaches every morning has been depressing, my son recently saw one on his pillow so he slept on the couch because he was grossed out. Moving here was a complete waste of my time and money and I'm counting down the days to move out of here.

My biggest concern is that management does not seem to communicate consistent rules to residents. When I first moved in, I was told there was no limit on the number of pool visitors, that the lounge could be used without a reservation as long as it was not already reserved, and that the courtyard was a common recreational area for residents, adults, and children. Last month, I went to the office and confirmed these rules again. I was given the same information. Before sending invitations for my 11-year-old son's birthday party, I specifically asked the office one more time whether anything had changed. I was told the rules had not changed. Based on that information, I invited his classmates and their parents to our community for a small pool party. We intentionally chose a Tuesday afternoon from 2:00-6:00 PM, when the community is normally quieter. There was no loud music and no disruptive behavior--just 11-year-old children celebrating a birthday. Some of the parents who came are homeowners and some are renters, and I was actually proud to show them our beautiful community. Then, at around 5:30 PM, a manager came over and told us that there were too many people. We were also told that if we wanted to use the lounge to play pool, we had to pay to reserve the lounge for at least one hour, and that children could only use the courtyard if an adult was present. If these are the actual rules, why was I not told this when I specifically asked multiple times BEFORE the party? Is the policy based on the actual written rules, or does it depend on management's discretion that day? What made the situation even more embarrassing was that the manager approached me about this in front of my family, friends, and guests, putting me in an extremely uncomfortable and humiliating position. I was also reminded afterward to make sure everything was cleaned up and the trash was thrown away. The way this was handled was extremely disappointing and showed very poor customer service. Everything Comes With an Additional Fee The community is beautiful, but it increasingly feels like management is focused on finding ways to "value-add" and charge residents for everything. For a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment costing around $3,000/month, residents also pay approximately $100/month for an additional parking space, plus insurance, water, trash, and other community-related charges that can easily add another $100+ per month. There are also frequent food trucks and other activities that often feel more like opportunities to generate additional revenue than resident benefits. I paid $50 for an additional apartment key fob for my 11-year-old son so he could conveniently access the courtyard and lounge. The office was very quick to collect the $50, but nobody explained that children might need a guardian to accompany them when using these amenities. The swimming pool was also closed to residents for approximately two weeks, yet the community fees were not reduced. Even Edison has recently provided residents with a credit because of the extreme heat. Parking Is Another Major Problem Having family and friends visit is extremely difficult because visitor parking is often completely full. There are only a limited number of curbside parking spaces, so people frequently have to wait for a spot. On top of that, street sweeping takes place every Tuesday morning until 2:00 PM, resulting in many cars receiving tickets. Honestly, living here has made it harder to have friends and family visit. People simply do not want to deal with the parking situation. Beautiful on the Outside, But Many Details Feel Poorly Thought Out The community looks beautiful, but some of the construction materials and design details do not feel particularly high quality. One positive thing is that residents can submit maintenance requests through the app, and maintenance staff generally respond and come out to fix issues. However, there are so many restrictions. Even placing a simple doormat outside your front door is not allowed. Because I have children, we were placed in a first-floor unit. Every week, dust and large amounts of leaves blow onto our patio. When upstairs residents wash their balconies, the water drains directly onto our patio. There is not even a proper gutter system to prevent this.

He had an appointment to view the apartments last Saturday (12/21/24) @ 10:00 AM. He drives all the way up to Upland and he calls Michelle who proceeds to tell him that she can't show the apartment because the maintenance is working on it. So that he could either go later that day or do for another day. No apologies or anything, I guess a confirmed appointment means nothing. When my dad contacted these apartments and spoke to her, he was very clear he was looking for a 2 bedroom, she told him they would have a 2 bed/1 ba with garage starting mid/late January, but in the meantime she could show a similar unit to get a feel for the layout. Hence the appointment on Saturday the 21st. Fast forward today, he has an appointment at 4:00 PM on Dec. 26/2024. He then proceeds to drive up to Upland AGAIN. Under the assumption the 2 bedroom/ 1 ba DOWSTAIRS unit was still going to be available in January like she knew he was looking for. She showed my dad the unit but not really she was just standing there not caring to show him around. He then asks about the downstairs apartment 2 bedroom they were in speaks of and she told him that it was already rented. Of course my dad was confused because per her words, it was supposedly not even available yet. She then is telling my dad that per him being self employed he would need to show bank statements with 30x the rent as the ending balance. Which that she never even mentioned beforehand. Be FFR, anyone with 30x the rent would not rent from these apartments that has barely to no parking and homeless people walking around. It's very clear she just did not want to rent to my dad or take him seriously for whatever her reasons were, but what angers me is wasting my dad's time!! Especially after Christmas to have to drive up to Upland in hopes of finding his new place. I have called and spoke to Michelle when I first inquired on behalf of my dad and she is quick to want to tour the apartments and get the ball rolling, but I guess only if she takes you seriously! Do better Michelle, you're not very good at your job.
