The inn is 15th century and retains so many of the old features such as cut-outs in the wall to display the wattle and daub construction of the walls. The flagstone floors are lovely as well. The Admans ale is the best in Britain, hands down, although I do not recall whether this is a "tied" house. I remember, a few decades ago, watching the marriage of Charles and Diana on the telly in the bar and getting plastered with the locals. This place is as traditional as it gets. The last time I was there I saw no fruit machines and I doubt any have appeared since then. A Suffolk treasure beyond measure.

You can now see the menu online which gives you a chance to have a look at what you fancy before you go. It is the type of pub where you could just sit and drink all day in as it's nice and relaxing. The menu has an enormous range of food- we struggle to choose just 1 main each because so many of them sound completely scrumptious. The pub really does sell traditional 'pub grub' -good steaks, lasagne, roasts etc- none of those small portion, fancy 'nouveau cuisine' dishes here. There is a daily roast with a different meat every day and the vegetables that accompany this are beautiful- fresh, colourful and not overcooked. Service is prompt, but not too prompt, prices are very reasonable and the landlady Avril is very keen to please and friendly. We've no negative feedback for this pub and gladly recommend it to our friends when they ask for a good 'food pub' recommendation. The pub closes on Mondays and has closed some other week day evenings recently when I assume, sadly business has been slow- if in doubt, do give them a call first.

During the summer months, they often hold local farmers markets and food exhibitions in the grounds which are fantastic. This summer they had cookery demonstrations also which were really good to watch (and taste!). Fun days are also held here which are good for the children as there are many activities to keep them amused. A good day out.

Very cosy atmosphere, beautiful old building and they've retained the charm. The food here was delicious, and very reasonably priced, especially considering they use local ingredients. If you're in this area, I highly recommend popping by here.
